Creature Minotaur Shaman Uncommon
Minotaur spells you cast cost BR less to cast. This effect reduces only the amount of colored mana you pay. (For example, if you cast a Minotaur spell with mana cost 2R, it costs 2 to cast.)
Illus. Karl Kopinski #153/165 2/3
Oh, I didn't see that you'd put 2/3 after the artists name.

Hell yes! I was hoping for a 1 drop Minotaur but this will do nicely. Kragma Warcaller for 3, that's beastmode. I already love drafting Minotaurs. Standard playable, maybe. I wonder why most of the Minotaur have bigger buts than flesh swords though? 3/2 too powerful? 2/2 not brute enough? Weird seeing 2/3 red creatures.

well, the fact that most minos are X/3 means drown in sorrow is very playable in mino decks

My comment with the skullcleaver was in response to the drown in sorrow post.

Rasta_Viking29 R&D stated that all they wanted all minotaurs to be at least 5 combined power and toughness to make sure they felt appropriately large enough. Since toughness is easier to bump in order to balance it, I imagine that's why so many are stated that way.

From TCG Article:
Credit to Frank Lepore
"You could potentially have the following series of actions:
Turn 2: Remove some things, Deathbellow Raider , whatever. Turn 3: Ragemonger. Turn 4: Boros Reckoner , Rageblood Shaman . Turn 5: Kragma Warcaller , any other minotaur (cause cost reduction). Maybe a second Kragma Warcaller even!
How much damage even is that? Without the two drop, we're looking at a board consisting of a 3/4, a 4/4, a 2/3, and another 3/4. When they're attacking however, with haste, we're looking at a 5/4, a 6/4, a 4/3, and a 5/4. Keep in mind they all have trample and haste as well.
We could also just leave mana up for a removal spell or something like Boros Charm if we're willing to splash white. Either way, with these few cards out, Boros Reckoner is a two mana 6/4 with trample, haste, and potentially first strike when attacking that costs a mere two mana. That doesn't even address playing any our Fanatic of Mogis to finish the opponent off.
Another thing we could consider is what the newly printed Mogis, God of Slaughter does for our deck. In addition to dealing some much appreciated damage, he can also clear a part so that our minotaur lords don't simply get chump blocked and he could get turned on fairly easily depending on the other cards we have in play. Unfortunately Mogis himself is not a minotaur, but I think we can manage.''
My addition to this is Mogis could be turned on with 2cmc Boros Reckoner s and Rageblood Shaman flooding the board.

i only wish they added "minotaur" to mogis's creature types in the oracle, paying (2) for mogis would be nice

Just play Thoughtseize & Shock in your 1cmc spot I guess, that should work. Mutavault are awesome with him as well decreases the chance of it screwing you mana wise with all the RR and RB costed minotaurs.

@Rasta_Viking29 ive been using Rakdos Cackler to some success. well, as much success as one can have with a casual mino-tribal

You're all forgetting something.
This card makes Minotaurs the new Slivers. Door of Destinies means tribal could even be slightly standard competitive.
January 15, 2014 1:31 p.m.
Door of Destinies at 4 is not that big of a deal in this deck. It's a turn or two too slow to make it worthwhile. Because you won't get enough counters and you can add more to this deck in it's place. I count 20 good minotaurs, not including mogis or reckoner.
I'm considering kragma, rageblood, ragemonger, deathbellows, fanatic and support.

Turn 1: Springleaf Drum Turn 2: Deathbellow Raider Turn 3: Ragemonger! + Springleaf Drum Turn 4: Door of Destinies + Boros Reckoner Turn 5: Kragma Warcaller + Rageblood Shaman
That's too slow? Turn 5 you're swinging with: 1x 7/6, 2x 8/7, and 1x 9/7 all with haste and trample.
Ya... Door of Destinies isn't a big deal.
January 15, 2014 2:57 p.m.
assuming you ramp to get it out, and sacrifice threats for it. I would rather drop a Thoughtseize turn 1, turn 2 Deathbellow Raider , turn 3 Ragemonger!, turn 4 Rageblood Shaman Kragma Warcaller , turn 5 Fanatic of Mogis swing to win with Mutavault in play turn 3 or 4. The door does nothing for me and it requires more support than I want to give it, read the ramp. When I can have draw, recursion, lifegain, removal and direct damage if a turn 5 win isn't happening. 4 drop that requires me to ramp with threats instead of attack to get it out early is too slow.

Definitely don't wan't Door of Destinies in my Minotaur deck. It's a win more card that sees no play in standard for that reason. Fanatic of Mogis or any other Minotaur that puts more pressure on is a better play. You also don't wan't ramp, that what Ragemonger is for.
January 15, 2014 3:18 p.m.
gufymike is right, Door of Destinies is too slow. I'd rather have 5 minotaurs on board turn 4 than a door which doesn't buff until turn 5.
Since we're brewing here, I've got a preliminary draft of a minotaur tribal deck and want to know whether anyone here would include Madcap Skills as the only aura in the deck? I'm thinking either 4 main or 2 main and 2 in the sideboard.
January 15, 2014 4:09 p.m.
JWiley129 I don't know, depends on how the rest of the deck pans out.
January 15, 2014 4:11 p.m.
gufymike - I don't want to put up the decklist yet since we don't know what else will be in BNG. Especially if we get some more playable minotaurs.

I think I have Madcap Skills in my current list that I've never tested. I'll have to give it a look over after the rest of the herd is spoiled. Not sure it will make the cut.

This is my list Tangarth's Ragebloods. I see some obvious changes now but not a bunch. Whip is definitely out.
January 15, 2014 4:24 p.m.
if you have 1 ragemonger in play on turn three you still can't cast both Rageblood Shaman and Kragma Warcaller on turn 4 since Rageblood Shaman would cast R1 and Kragma Warcaller would cost 3. Ragemonger only reduces the "color" costs of minotaurs, read the parenthesis text on the card.
January 15, 2014 5:53 p.m.
jchudz fair enough, I mistook the 3 for a 2 looking at kragma's image. It would switch with Rageblood Shaman or play a recknor in that slot.

The problem with Minotaurs, to this point, is that almost all of the good options are 3-drops.
January 16, 2014 5:40 a.m.
yup. the only 2-drop is Deathbellow Raider
Show all minotaurs in Standard

You can always fit Legion Loyalist in the 1 drop spot or Thoughtseize and there's 1 2 drop minotaur as well as loads of 2cmc removal in those colors then you reach 3 and you have countless choices. I think the curve could work with Minotaurs. I still don't think it will be a top tier deck but if done right i can see Minotaurs winning an fnm or two. Plus when you drop Ragemonger t3 you can then drop 2x 3cmc Minotaurs then next turn and so on overwhelming quite quickly unless they have a Supreme Verdict . I like it hopefully we'll see more Minotaurs as more spoilers come out.

Also it's a 2/3
Sort of interesting, sort of not interesting.
