There wasn't any thread for this card so I thought I would post it. :3

This card excites me. Totally awesome in limited, but I'm not sure I would wanna play it in Standard, except maybe Jund Aggro? Still awesome. I think I just get excited by everything BG.

Not bad, but why're they making so many rares that could easily be uncommon? :(

@Vieno: Why would they print this at uncommon?

It's an upgraded Putrid Leech

September 8, 2014 2:08 a.m.

Except you have to sink extra mana into it. Upside? This is a solid topdeck in the late game.

Boza says... #7

It is a downgraded Leach. It actually is worse than A COMMON card, since it cannot realisitically become anything more than a 4/4, which leach can do for 0 mana.

You do all realize that rarity is a tool for controlling Limited, right?

": ~ gets +2/+2" is powerful in limited. So is regenerate.

Boza says... #9

So that means that, compared to Alara, Wizards understand limited better and they know that the Leach was too oppressive in drafts (I was not doing drafts then, but I have not heard of such a thing). I cannot remember the last time I have used regenerate on a 2/2 creature in Limited, or even regenerate in general.

The obvious comparison to me is Truefire Paladin and that was an uncommon. That card even has vigilance on top of its two activated abilities. I would have been fine with Rakshasha being an Uncommon.

I understand how people could see this as an uncommon, but I agree that it should be rare. And that mostly comes down to the fact that you can use the first ability more than once a turn.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was Lotleth Troll . Of course, the troll worked wonderfully with grave shenanigans, but maybe a GB aggro deck will pop up and this will see play? The troll also had trample...

It's hard to say.

There is another reason Boza, and that is because there is limited space for the amount of uncommons in a set. When there is too many uncommons, many of the borderline cards are bumped up to rare.

I saw the pump for 2 and at the fact that it can be done as long as you have mana available, it could kill just about any blocker and stick around with regen

I'm quite undecided if I think this should be Uncommon or Rare.

I understand that rarity is based much more on Limited playability/strength... and that being able to give +2/+2 repeatedly only based on the amount of mana available is powerful in limited.... but it requires 2 specific mana to pump, and it's in a 3 color set; having reasonable amounts of proper mana available will not be that common.

In Constructed it's a Bear that requires 2 specific color mana to cast, and an ability that requires a large investment of mana on an ongoing basis. - This just doesn't seem playable.

I know not all rare cards can be Constructed playable... but something about this feels like they tried to make it Standard worthy, but just missed the mark. - Who knows, maybe it will find a home.

September 8, 2014 8:14 a.m.

Its size and abilities put it on the borderline between Uncommon and Rare. Wizards hedged towards rare to make sure it didn't break Limited, because it's absolutely disgusting if left uncontested.

It's art, however, deserves Mythic Rare status. Holy shit this thing looks amazing. I want ten foils.

Needs more datas to compute card like/dislike...

-Are there enough GB(x) aggro cards to make aggro a viable strat?

-Are any of the GB(x) decks in desperate need for a two drop?

-Is pump on a creature with no form of evasion going to be relevant at all?

-WILL BATMAN MAKE IT TIME?? Tune in text week on another exciting adventure!!

I think most of you undervalue this card, it's absurdly powerful.

Just imagine a not so out of the norm opening of T1 Hardened Scales into T2 Deathdealer into T3 Anafenza, the Foremost . This is pressure! This is 8 power if you swing on T4 and if you're mana is fixed you can represent double pump on Deathdealer. That's absurd pressure to be dealt with!

Deathdealer gives you options. Play him T2, have no play on T3 ok attack for 4. No-one will put Courser of Kruphix or Sylvan Caryatid in it's way ever. And if you have a play on T3 you can still represent the pump, attack, don't pump and play Anafenza or your own Courser or Abzan/Sultai Ascendancy and get a free 2 damage in. The great thing about this guy: he's not even bad if you draw him later in the game! Imagine you draw him T8-T10, where every other bear/two-drop would suck this guy is a huge threat. And with Regneration he's hard to deal with if you're able to leave the mana open. If you don't and they kill it - fine, they played one of their precious removal spells on your two-drop. This guy is busted, you just have to play him in the right deck.

Honey I Shrunk Reaper of the Wilds

First F*** Reaper of the Wilds that card has and always will suck ass.

This card is bad ass and I agree with Putrefy . Combat tricks, yep. Uncapped power yep. Fits right into a deck running 4x Courser & 4x Caryatid (sometimes 4x Mystic) yep. Has regeneration in a format now with only overcosted removal.

This is the best card G/B has got since RTR. Reaper of the Wilds ass. Nyx Weaver ass. Pharika, God of Affliction ass for the most part but became our Spear of Heliod now that Abrupt Decay is gone.

  • I like the artwork...

I mean Anafenza, the Foremost probably wins the award for worst art on a magic card.

This guy kicks ass. The arguements have already been well made, it will see play. I think Spootyone's comparison to lolith troll is a good one and Putrefy is right on in how to break him.

Femme_Fatale says... #25

I SO totally agree with you APPLE01DOJ. I REALLY hate the artwork on Anafenza, the Foremost . You look at the card and you KNOW that there is clearly something missing, something clearly wrong, and it just irks at you every single time.
