Siege Rhino

The mere approach of an Abzan war beast is enough to send enemies fleeing in panic.
4/5
Adamant Negation
Instant
Uncommon
Counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays 1.
Ferocious - If you control a creature with power 4 or greater, counter that spell instead.
Well then.

Both of those cards seem awesome. A Force Spike that could be hard counter, and a Rhino that's going to trample your face...after it bleeds you, and everyone around you. I like it.

That rhino is strong.
On the other hand, every temur player I feel should have at least 2 if not a playset of adament negotiation. 1 drop counter spell against you pesky control players that want to kill and boardwipe me! And its incredibly easy to bluff with. Look I have cards in hand and blue mana open! What are you going to do?
September 8, 2014 1:34 p.m.
Siege Rhino don't care. Siege Rhino got places to be. Siege Rhino got things to do. Be like the Siege Rhino.
September 8, 2014 1:34 p.m.
Anyone else kinda want to build the "Animals with houses on their backs" deck? The Seedborn Muse elephant, Siege Rhino, Meandering Towershell (I'm assuming he has an actual tower on his shell)? Anyone? Just me? Alright.

Siege Rhino is a beast! 6pt life swing on top of a beater for 4 mana is value.
Adamant Negation is a limited card. With Negate legal it's not worth the one less mana with a condition.

Not exactly a Force Spike MindAblaze!; more like a slightly weaker Spell Pierce with a ferocious upside (gettit?)

Oh yes, RTFC. Thanks GoldGhost012. Not as good as thought originally, but still decent protection for Temur midrange/tempo.

I was kinda torn between Sultai and Abzan... But I mean come on, that Rihno... For real? This is ridiculous!
September 8, 2014 1:39 p.m.
Seige Rhino is totally awesome. Either going to play Mardu or Abzan come rotation. Hoping for Abzan though.

Why are the rares outclassing most of the mythics in the set so far? Maybe it's time to do away with mythics. On another note, with the exception of the fetch lands, this set is very unimpressive so far too me. I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna' draft and make sure I get my fetches and all that. Weak-sauce Wizards, Weak-sauce...

Mythics were never supposed to be powerhouse constructed staples. Mythics were supposed to be just that Mythic...either in flavor or feel, not necessarily power level.
September 8, 2014 1:54 p.m.
Tell that to Wurmcoil Engine
, Geist of Saint Traft
and Flying Macaroni Face, let's be honest, mythics were added so the secondary market could make some serious dough on the side, and people would crack more packs looking for the mythic they want but can't afford the $150 bones for a JTMS. If it's just flavor and feel they want, why have any monocolored mythics in a wedge set? Doesn't match the flavor and feel of the set at all. Sarkhan would be the exception.

Anyone else want to have an empty board, then as an opponent casts a spell flash in Boon Satyr and then the Adamant Negation? That just seems cheeky. Morph is also another option.

DarkNero: Totally doable casually. Dauntless Escort and this Siege Rhino puts you in G/W with a splash in Black. You could even splash blue for some Bant Rhinos like Rhox War Monk .
Ladies and gentlemen, a four-colour tribal deck. And it's RHINOS.

TheDevicer: BUT THE LOXODON AREN'T RHINOS!!
And for the Elephant deck of course, we now have Ivorytusk Fortress to branch elephant decks into three colours. Though not many elephants use +1.+1 counters by themselves.

I'd just go with bunch of big gray creatures. Elephants and Rhinos! RAWR!

Seige Rhino is nice... Would be even better at 3CMC but it's clear what WOTC game plan is to slow the format down. Removal now at 3-4CMC Wraths at 5, Multicolored lands all enter tapped...

@ Zuckfat
I don't want to open up the "mythics are just for making money" conversation because I see how it been stretched but I will say that two of the three creatures you named fit the Mythic flavor very well.
Having mono-colored mythics in a wedge themed set doesnt have to depart from the theme either when each clan has its specific flavor. It's not the colors that are the flavor, it's what's being represented.

Zuckfat compared to Theros Khans is anything but weak. As a Modern player I've already got Sultai Charm and some lovely fetches. Not only that, but the charms as a whole are fairly good.
Anyway, mythics. I don't particularly care for a lot of the Mythic cards, but sets are built around Limited, not Standard as a whole. By your logic any mythic would be playable in Modern.
September 8, 2014 4:50 p.m.
you are great at non-sequitur shinobi.
reread my post
seek definition of logic
then respond. Your post literally has nothing to do with my comments.
September 8, 2014 7 p.m.
What's being represented is they suck and are so far outclassed by the rares. Mythics aren't for flavor, they're for $$$$. There's no reason whatsoever to introduce the mythic rarity unless you want more packs opened. The TCG model is based around players continuously purchasing products either from the secondary market or from packs to upgrade their decks and increase the likely-hood they will win. No other format encourages this more than standard. People don't buy packs for flavor, set commentators may like to mention the flavor in reviews, but let's be honest, we don't play the cards for the flavor text. I would like it if they got rid of the mythic rarity, but they won't, I was just commenting on the fact that they suck and would rather open most of the rares than any of the mythics.. which is unusual. Don't forget that the original planeswalkers were rare and not mythics... flavor my ass.

Siege Rhino is gas. I'd play him.
Adamant Negation is pretty good as well. I can certainly see this being played in Legacy UGx Delver (Tarmogoyf Delver basically), as well as all manner of Merfolk. It may or may not be broken, but that will be discovered soon.
September 8, 2014 8:01 p.m.
You guys do realize rarity is for controlling Limited, right? The more complex and/ore game impacting the affect has on limited, the higher the rarity.
September 8, 2014 8:53 p.m.
GoldGhost012 says... #39
Yeah, sure. Let's open Emrakul, the Aeons Torn , Karn Liberated , Mox Opal , Liliana of the Veil and Jace, the Mind Sculptor at rare level. Seems legit.
Of course there are rares that outclass mythics. Look at the list above; those mythics all outclass most rares, and that's a short list.
It also really depends on what format you're talking about. Elspeth, Sun's Champion is a great example. She shines in Limited, Block Constructed, and Standard, outclassing most other mythics and rares. But in Modern, Legacy, and to a certain extent, EDH, she's not that good, and so is outclassed by other mythics, and yes, rares.
WOTC also has absolutely nothing to do with the secondary market prices; all that is controlled by the stores. All they do is make the product and distribute it. Once the product is in the hands of the stores, it's out of their hands.
In the end, Limited is the biggest, if not only, reason for rarities. Sometimes cards get rare or mythic rare slots because they're pretty much trash, like Descent into Madness or Labyrinth Champion . Sometimes they're bumped up to mythics because of their flavor, but it's mostly because they can take over the game when they're landed.

Femme_Fatale says... #40
Yep. A crap card that no one will use will be put into the rare or mythic slot, so that each player in a limited game isn't forced to pick it at least once.
As for the cards themselves ...
Card image added: Siege Rhino .
The other card isn't the real image, it is photoshopped (or MSE'd) so it is not getting a card submission.

Zuckfat Nah, the original planeswalkers were more rare that rare but their symbols didn't acknowledge that.
September 9, 2014 10:24 a.m.
If you want to believe that, then fine, it runs counter to their business model... standard is the prime money maker and the most played format and requires lots of pack cracking or singles purchases. Where do secondary market vendors get their product?
Hasbro is not a non-profit organization... they wants the moneys...unless you think modern masters was printed to make prices lower and increase the number of modern players. I could go on... but I have class. And keep in mind, there are almost always exceptions to rules. So pointing out a crappy mythic doesn't make my point not stand. Heck, I think the new fetches were thrown in at the last minute to bump sales... cause so far.. I think the set sucks and wasn't interested in it until they were unveiled.. I wasn't alone..at all. I have class, have fun magic lovers. We may disagree on some things but we keep coming back because it's a well designed games and fun.. I have issues with the money side... it slides a little to harsh towards player imo.

@Zuckfat: Sedge Scorpion is curious to know why you use ellipses so often. Ellipses reminds Sedge Scorpion of his dead mother.
I'm going to make the four-colour modern Rhino tribal deck and get back to you, see if I can make the mana base work of all things :p I'LL BE BAAAACK

Apparently it opened up the mythic rare conversation anyway...
Just to echo what I said before, each person is entitled to their opinion. If you work for Wizards maybe you have a different perspective, but nobody is sitting here thinking;
"Wait, what? They print cards and put them in boosters to sell them to us? Assholes..."
I would say Draft gets the most boosters opened. Which is what rarity is for, but way back in Shards block Wizards said Mythic was reserved for certain cards. Saying it's not is calling them a liar, even if there is ulterior motive, like an engineered limited environment and selling more boosters. That's ok. You can choose to stop buying cards if you don't like it.

lol. I'm excited to play some of the new four drops in some kind of deck. I like cards that make me want to build decks...Theros didn't really do that for me tbh.

Femme_Fatale says... #49
There are tonnes of potential money cards in KTK that will never see a rise in Theros. I really will have to start stock-piling a lot of these for potential price-hikes.
