Sigiled Starfish

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

So a lot of people have posted the new spoilers, and one card in particular stood out for me - Sigiled Starfish (Starfish!).

This is a card that looks potentially quite meaningful, being one of the only sources of repeatable, manaless scry in the game, being able to be cast early, having 3 toughness, and not having defender.

For me this is the perfect mix of both stupid and quite useful at the same time; so that really got me excited.

How does everyone else feel about this card?

it will fit quite nicely into scry decks, though I dont see it being used for much more than that

though a starfish enchanted with a Chromanticore would be funny to see

as a casual at being casual my opinion on any format shouldn't hold much weight, but from what I can tell it has potential to see standard play as well as maybe modern. scry on a stick is super good, I mean they should have gave that effect to the lands imo. t add x or x then scry 1.

To me what makes this card seem decent is that it can stop a >3 power duder then scry at the end of their turn to cheat on your next card. seems pretty sweet, and if it's not needed for blocks then eot of opponent you can just scry 1 and still fix or keep your next draw.

The potential is there, now we just need someone out there to show use why it's so baller, meh, or utter cowpie!

cr14mson I totally forgot about that card! u/r scryface.dek is so gonna be the new midrange. t1 new merfolk, t2 scryfish, t3 fsadept or chimera t4 slap their face

not fast but why not?

confirmed keranos is gonna be the nuts.

I do think however that scryfish with the new merfolk is gonna be a great way at controlling your topdeck as well as your opponents. I see much combo/synergy with those 2.

mainly joking that deck seems pretty jank :P

I'm just waiting for the draft where someone slaps an Ordeal of Thassa on it and proceeds to dominate the game.

Yup, no defender.

We have another Utopia Tree .

Kioras follower = scry 2

GoldGhost012 says... #10

I really like it. Maybe because it's a repeatable scry for virtually nothing. Maybe because it should never be a target for removal. Maybe because it's a STARFISH!!!

McSleuthburger My new goal in life is to resolve a Chromanticore onto a starfish at an FNM. If I do this my life will finally be complete, stay tuned for a deck list :p

It is kind of a bummer because if you manage to get 2 scry's out of the starfish, you might as well have just played Omenspeaker and moved on with the game at hand.

Ultimaodin says... #20

Scryfish is amazing, even if they doomblade it, well they just spent two mana doom blading a 2 drop that doesn't do anything but scry. That said, scry on a sti...star is brilliant.I want to make a scry-afry deck.

April 8, 2014 12:09 a.m.

Behgz says... #21

Omenspeaker is better then, cuz they just Doom Blade something that can hit them for 1 After it scry'd for 2 at etb, which if flickered can scry 2 again.

The starfish doesn't even set up your next draw the turn it comes out.

Charging Badger and/or Sedge Scorpion were worth pretending to nut over, that starfish is just 'meh', unfortunately..

If they reprint Time Warp in JOU I'll eat a copy of Sigiled Starfish.

jineur says... #23

You could just play Omenspeaker and the Starfish. : )

ChiefBell says... #24

I feel like the ability to repeatedly scry MAY put the favour in the starfishes favour.

All the scry, all the time. Play both.

Plus - there's crazy synergy between thassa letting stuff be unblockable and the starfish.

-MisterJ- says... #27

I want Chromantistar + Thassa, God of the Sea + Omenspeaker + Flamespeaker Adept + Kiora's Follower to untap Chromantistar for unblockable epic damage that sets up your next draw beautifully... All in one turn.

Long live Patrick!!!

If only he had haste, then he'd be the bomb.

April 9, 2014 10:59 a.m.

KrosanTusker says... #29

Come on, Behgz, it's a starfish! They could have made it a vanilla 7 mana 0/1 and the type line would still have made it amazing! Although, not necessarily playable. Sigh...

Gienah says... #30

I'm so making a Chromatistar deck and running it at FNM. I'm so excited. Even if i get beat it'll be fun for the WTF?! factor.

April 9, 2014 12:30 p.m.

Gienah says... #31

Put Ajani in it with those fogs for 3 +1/+1 counters. 0/3 -> 3/6 -> 7/10 Chromatistar -> 10/13... oh my.

I just imagine a starfish with Chromanticore on it soaring through the air and landing on some creature or player face-hugger style.

I feel omenspeaker is better, digs harder and faster. The starfish does have that dig forever appeal to it, but i'd rather run omenspeaker and thassa than omenspeaker and patrick.
