Oh trust me I'm already salivating about exactly that. You don't even have to do anything else for the rest if the game at that point after you resolve him.

I've been testing an Esper superdriends deck. 15 planeswalkers with Sorin topping the curve. 100% busted. Been playing on untap and I'm 13-1 with the deck now after losing one match against a current standard rally deck. lol

Sorin is MVP. Serious power. His +1 is a wincon on its own for goodness sake!

My friend already has an Esper super friends deck, and she's twitching. Like, actually has a physical twitch because she wants this card so badly.

Im looking at this for my pet Ghave, Guru of Spores EDH. With Doubling Season he ults right away and creates 80 1/1 Lifelink tokens and Sorin survives the ult. I know PWs are judged by their first two abilities rather than the ult but...

...Doubling Season exists in EDH lol

Super awesome card, can't wait to pit it in my B/W EDH deck, but that art is just ugly. Wish it didn't look like a paper cutout on a random background.

Is there any good reason for which Sorin's second ability cannot target players? That severely limits its usefulness, in my mind.

Probably because they tested that ability and it was too strong? Wizards spends a ton of time testing these cards for Standard, and a 6-mana deal 6 to the face card in White-Black was probably too strong. Plus that'd be a 12 point life swing, nearly impossible to come back from.

JWiley129 Actually wizards has said themselves they only really test cards for limited past that they hardly test cards at all even for standard they just hope their testing in limited will be enough that nothing is too broken in standard

The Future-Future League (FFL) definitely tests out standard to make sure it's not busted before they release a set.

EmblemMan - You're confusing Wizards not testing for Modern with Standard. They have the FFL, the Future Future League, where they test future Standards. I'll just leave a few articles here where Sam Stoddard, developer in Magic R&D, goes over old FFL lists.

JWiley129: I am sorry that I need to ask this, but how is dealing 6 damage considered a "12-point life swing?" From where is the other 6 damage coming?

March 20, 2016 6:04 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #15

DemonDragonJ - Sorin's -X is "deal X damage, you gain X life", so if you deal 6 damage you also gain 6 life. 6+6=12, hence a 12 point life swing.

JWiley129: yes, I see; you were referring to the fact that it would cause there to be a difference of 12 between the two players' life totals.
