What do you guys think of him in standard? I almost think he could see sideboard play u/w/r control in modern.

Oh cool. Modern Multicolor burn needed more good cards.

I love him in standard, I saw him and I thought it wasn't real for a moment. I'm for sure going to be pre-ordering 4 unless it goes to an insane price.

Is this playable in modern UWR control with 4 Lightning Bolt and 4 Lightning Helix? His second ability deals 6 damage and gains you 6 life for 6 mana if used with lightning bolt. Seems expensive, but might be a decent finisher?

December 30, 2014 12:41 p.m.

This card is actual horseshit... and going right in my Modern deck.

Y'all are thinking small. This chick + Blasphemous Act.

Go go Skred.dec

December 30, 2014 1:14 p.m.

@Ohthenoises
Please don't make Grand Master + Blasphemous Act a thing. I don't need that.

@ All
This does seem pretty good against Delver in modern (at least for Burn and UWR Control).

This card is probably going to see some play in Jeskai burn or Boros burn in Standard. Gives the deck the resilience it needs.

For modern, I could see some people trying her out as a SB option. I thought about using her in my burn deck since I'm splashing white but I doubt it'll work out. The only matchup she would come in is against aggro and burn, against which a single lightning bolt would take care of her.

Yea I think this card will be strong in standard. Jeskai has been full of burn already, this with Seeker of the Way will keep the life up

December 30, 2014 1:52 p.m.

40 copies at $15 went fast on SCG.

Uhhhh...holy crap. This card...

So I guess Boros Burn again, huh?

December 30, 2014 2:44 p.m.

JakeHarlow says... #18

(Apologize for double-post)

He's up to $19.99 at SCG and sold out. Seems like we might have one of the set's chase mythics here!

I think Jeskai is going to get even stronger off of this card. Jeskai Tokens might find a spot for this dude, and then the deck will be even more ludicrously powerful than it is now!

I say Doomwake Giant to token decks. Take a big giant flying leap. :D

I think she has potential, but she has to be built around.

This card is going straight into modern red deck wins (the popular boros and american versions) and American control. The lifelink in a red deck wins deck would come in handy, as you very well may end the game with 37 life. The second ability seems pretty good as well, especially for American control. Kind of reminds me of a lesser Snapcaster Mage. It cost more mana than a Snapcaster Mage flashback would and the mana has to be there when you play it, but you now have partially an infinite supply of it since it doesn't have to be exiled and you can re cast at any time.

Quick! everybody start talking about how it's terrible! I want to be able to afford a playset.

How about this: UWR Control?

December 30, 2014 3:54 p.m.

SpaderAce says... #24

It isn't even good! At least not in standard. The decks that would play him don't need the life gain, and the decks that need life gain (control) wouldn't want a tiny vulnerable creature to protect. I'm betting he'll fall once people actually try him out. Maybe if it was an enchantment, but he's just too vulnerable to be worth running in control and not as good as Seeker of the Way in tempo

December 30, 2014 3:55 p.m.

InnerFlame says... #25

SpaderAce: I don't see him in standard...like at all. I very much agree with you there. I do think he'll see a decent amount of modern play. He's like a lesser Snapcaster Mage almost; however, you do bring up a very good point about how vulnerable he is. I wish he was an enchantment instead. Nevertheless, I expect to see some red deck win and american control decks in modern to at least try it out.

TheHroth says... #26

I want to try him in SB in Standard...my LGS is full of mono-red and other aggro, so the lifegain from him and Seeker will be huge. Also, Anger of the Gods will become even more dealbreaking against Boss Sligh.

December 30, 2014 4:25 p.m.

I like him much more than Seeker of the Way. sure, he isn't going to get big like seeker, but he always has lifelink and gives a huge upside to your burn spells

December 30, 2014 4:27 p.m.

TheHroth says... #28

Seeker of the Way can easily attack into Courser of Kruphix though. This guy cant.

December 30, 2014 4:30 p.m.

InnerFlame says... #29

The problem with him in standard is his second ability is almost worthless. There's no Lightning Bolts or Path to Exiles in standard. All the good spells cost too much to bring them back to your hand as you cast them. To do that, Magma Jet or any other worthwhile exile and destroy would cost at the very least 5 mana. Which is a lot when trying to keep tempo. And like SpaderAce said, it's vulnerable and could just be shout down by Magma Spray in response to returning. As far as the life gain goes, which appears to be what a lot of people are most interested in, it's a decision you'll have to make if you want it in your deck just for the life gain. I've always been taught that if your deck doesn't run off of life gain, it's kind of just prolonging the inevitable. So it's really just a matter of is the life gain worth spots in your deck and does it take away from the tempo of the deck especially when it can be removed sp easily?

Hickorysbane says... #30

Invisible_Stalker, while I can't say anything definitively I don't see him going anywhere in Modern burn decks. Yes they could end the game at 37 life if he stays alive...but they also end the game a turn sooner if he'd been another bolt variant. The same kinda mentality that makes it okay for a burn deck to fetch and untapped shock-land T1. Burn just doesn't care about it's life total more often then not.

December 30, 2014 10:18 p.m.

Hickorysbane says... #31

Although I could see him being useful in something that wants re-usable bolts and paths. Or Electrolyze for even more card advantage.

December 30, 2014 10:19 p.m.

InnerFlame says... #32

PrecintSix6Six oh I totally agree with that. At the time I was kind of too excited about the card haha. I'm more aligned with my latest comment now being I don't think it's worth it as it will sacrafice too much tempo and eats up too much mana and is to vulnerable. Life gain in a burn deck just prolongs the inevitable. I liked the idea about being able to cycle the spells as well with him, but even still, four mana for a burn deck is a lot. I could totally see it in American control for the recycling still. I'll definitely play around with it, but I'm more where you are with it now.

I had a big, long rant on this which got erased, Here's the end of it:

TL;DR: This is too much of a hyped card, because no deck really wants it, What am I missing?

December 31, 2014 5:38 p.m.

Using her in my Jeskai burn/lifegain deck. When she hits the field the burn and life gain difference can make it hard for someone to come back from.
