So we know that Chandra's homeworld is a steam punk based world (check out the Uncharted realms article here). Now there is a certain steam punk based creature we've been waiting for a while to see enter the scene. Steamflogger Boss

Now after reading the article and learning a bit more about Kaladesh it seems like the perfect place for him to appear. The world seems to be very focused on contraptions and building/designing.

That would make my day.

That would be great, but it won't happen. They announced that Steamflogger Boss was a huge joke shortly after Future Sight was released.

I'm pretty certain I've seen MaRo talk about it before....

Either way, just because it was designed as a joke card doesn't mean they couldn't design it into a future set.

MaRo said that it was a joke, but he also said everyone liked it so much that they might make riggers a thing.

MaRo has repeatedly stated on his blog that they have been trying to figure out contraptions, and might eventually make it a thing.

Steamflogger Boss is a staple in every format. So surprised he didn't make Modern Masters.

I mean, Steamflogger Boss would probably be a better Contraption/Rigger card. There was a thread a while back about him, that went into it: Linkity Link

We have one other rigger, Moriok Rigger, and he deals with artifacts being sent to the graveyard. Maybe, its an ability that lets you cast artifacts from the graveyard if you control 3 or more creatures of a certain type..

Assemble Y for X, where X is the creature type and Y is the amount of mana.

I thought rigger would be a subtype not a name thing. I doubt Moriok Rigger counts.

Moriok Rigger would not receive the buff from Steamflogger Boss because the pump effect looks only at creature types, not creature names

June 11, 2015 11:51 a.m.

Moriok Rigger has been errata'd to be a Rigger.

You're correct! My mistake, I didn't check the gatherer page for the card, and assumed the card text was still accurate. Moriok Rigger would in fact receive that buff. Thanks for pointing that out ItchiUchiha117

The joke about Steamflogger Boss was ruined by Aaron Forsythe when he told everyone that it was a joke card. That forced MaRo's hand and now he's attempting to make Steamflogger Boss actually work.

It would be interesting if Contraptions ended up being a type of artifact-token (noncreature) or a new type of permanent all together, similar to emblems but weaker.

I always imagined contraptions as tokens but defined by certain abilities. Like being able to construct Ornithopter's and Memnite's but in token form at lower rarity's but leading up to much more complex contraptions at higher rarity.

If they can't make it work within the game they won't. But Chandra's homeworld seems like the most appropriate plane for riggers we've seen so far.
