Splinter Twin Ban?
Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

Take this with a grain of salt because this information is hearsay.
A friend of a friend is a beta tester of MTGO and is testing a new update that is supposed to come out later. In this update, according to a friend of my friend, Splinter Twin and Summer Bloom are banned in Modern. Like I said, hearsay. If this turns out to be true, this is huge.
I'm not here to discuss whether or not this should happen, just bringing up the possibility that it may happen. Rumors, gossip, shenanigans, GO.
Slim possibility that Stoneforge Mystic gets unbanned. No information from the friend of a friend about that though.

That's just speculation then. Eh, whatever. Is this is true though, that's very interesting.
January 15, 2016 11:06 p.m.
I would personally like a Summer Bloom Ban, but I feel as though Splinter Twin isn't broken enough to warrant a ban... It's great, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's ban-worthy. Especially since it's not like it's extremely unwinnable to play against.
Either way, if they're both banned, then the meta will undergo a HUGE swing. I think BGx decks will basically run away with the meta as a whole.. And maybe that jank-looking Bx Eldrazi deck everyone's going ballistic over lately.
Then again, that's just my view on it. I could easily be way off in my assumptions.
January 15, 2016 11:06 p.m.
If this is true, then I think the reasoning behind Splinter Twin's ban will be much the same as Birthing Pod's. It's not broken, but putting up top results too much. Which is, again, a bad reason to ban a deck. And I'm not sure BGx would dominate. Yeah, BGx decks are designed to be good against everything, but the reason why they're so popular is because they just beat the snot out of Twin. If Twin is gone, then BGx isn't beating it up anymore and you get the idea.
January 15, 2016 11:10 p.m.
The reason BGx is played is because it's a 50/50 deck again the field. It doesn't have bad Matchups. If twin is banned, BGx will still be heavily played. It's not dependent on Twin at all.
January 15, 2016 11:13 p.m.
BGx has a fairly poor matchup vs Affinity and Amulet Bloom (Which is speculated to get banned out anyways..) in my experience with the deck.
January 15, 2016 11:17 p.m.
Assuming he was referring to the supposed twin banning, yeah. FAMOUSWATERMELON's reaction is about right lol
January 15, 2016 11:24 p.m.
Um DrFunk27 I believe that statement is not entirely true. Sure, BGx decks are good against other decks, but one of their strengths is against blue based combo. With no twin, they become a lot less advantageous to play over something like Abzan Company.
As a whole I believe that twin should not be banned. It doesn't violate the turn 4 rule, it isn't putting up ridiculous amounts of finishes, and i disagree with vault's statement. The reason pod got banned (which I'm not saying I'm glad it got banned) was because it was difficult to print a card which completely shut off the deck effectively (unlike Spellskite for twin) and every card they printed just made the deck better. With twin, there is no card that specifically makes the deck better. I mean sure snappy was good and stuff, but it doesn't make the namesake card/combo better. The first modern GP was won by (wait for it) twin, and that was pre snappy.
TL;DR twin doesn't have the same inevitability as pod :)

Just check the WOTC site. It's official, though Stoneforge is still not legal.
January 16, 2016 12:09 a.m.
What the fuck... I honestly can't believe that just happened..
January 16, 2016 12:14 a.m.
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker is about to shoot to the moon in value. Also of note, Stoneforge is once again not coming back.

well looks like some price drops for edh players :D
January 16, 2016 12:39 a.m.
Yea that's a huge twist. I'm not surprised Stoneforge Mystic didn't get unbanned and we all knew Amulet Bloom was taking a hit, but a Twin ban was unexpected

Where are you finding that price? TCG and SCG haven't updated for me.
January 16, 2016 12:50 a.m.
TCG is sub $5 almost $3-$4. Kiki hasn't moved yet but it's going to happen. Anyone else think CoCo and Zoo decks benefit the most?

Someone just bought 3 kikis out from under me, so they are in fact moving, even at midnight US time. Can't wait to see the price in the morning.

At least Scalding Tarn has the potential to drop back down to below $100 again. Semi-sliver lining?

I already have a Korean Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and TBH I probably wouldn't mind trading it. It's not doing anything atm.

I'm not entirely sure what I think of this. When I first heard it I was very positive, because I really like to play against alot of different strange decks and to have more diversity in the field, as Splinter Twin was very dominant. But the more I think of it, the less i like it.The thing is, this might not make the field that much more diverse. If Twin is just taken over by Tron and affinity, its not funny at all. Because actually, the Splinter Twin combo is one of the funniest decks to play against, IMO, because it's so versatile and interactive. It's always very exciting to play against twin, because anything can happen. And it's not like they win out of nowhere, like amulet bloom or storm. Twin players usually bait out removal, build up counterspells and generally play fair games. When you loose to twin, it's either because your deck is not very interactive, or because the twin player tired out your resources, out-valued you and won, which is what makes for good games IMO.These are the kind of games I want to play. Not Tron where I cannot interact and get beaten by wurmcoils and karns on turn 3. Twin has always been the deck to beat in modern, and I'm okay with that. There are many tools to do so, that still gets you a fun and interactive game. Against tron or the likes, you lose or your opponent loses. No back and forth. The game is decided after 4 turns. What's your opinion?
January 16, 2016 12:43 p.m.
not true. the sb vs tron is too strong. salts make me salty. it is complete bs. twin has like 800 counters. tron has none. a path to exile or leonin arbiter destroys, as well as burn and infect

They did this to shake up the format before the pro tour to see what kind of brews will come up
January 17, 2016 2:11 a.m.
Why would people need to brew? Many of them are already playing junk or afinity and got a boost
January 17, 2016 7:22 a.m.
Some sort of control variant will come out of this. UWR and Esper, I assume, will probably show up at PT. I wouldn't mind that.
January 17, 2016 9:21 a.m.
Fucking stupid. Twin wasn't that oppressive. It was unfair and versatile, but not as inevitable as pod. It didn't break any rules of the format like bloom. Now people are gonna bitch about another deck, and it will get a piece banned and on and on it will go until nobody wants to play anymore since they are scared to invest in a deck. Grow some balls wizards.
DrFunk27 says... #2
Fine with me. Twin is stupid lol Honestly though, I'd hate to see a combo leave Modern. I hope Bloom is banned. The more important info is what the hell was unbanned?
