Still 1 unspoiled land... and speculations?

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

Posted on Sept. 9, 2014, 3:03 p.m. by Rayenous

When viewing the spoilers at MTGSalvation I noticed that lands take up card number 229 to 269... that's 41 land.

5x Fetches... 10x Life Land... 5x Triple Land... 20x Basic Land...
That's 40.

I checked all the numbers, and the remaining Land is #245. It falls alphabetically between Thornwood Falls and Tranquil Cove .

Small range, so I looked at possible reprints:
Assuming the land will be 'color generic' (either all colors or colorless), so that no 1 clan or color gets a bonus... Tower of the Magistrate and Thran Quarry are the only options.

Thran Quarry is a reference to the Thran Empire, which has nothing to do with Khans... so I doubt it would be reprinted here.

Pro-Artifact may seem to go with M15's heavy artifact theme, but seems week as a land in the Set... so I doubt it is Tower of the Magistrate .

Leaving only non-reprints as being feasible.

My "guess"... a new land... probably a "filter" land of sorts...

My "dream"... a new land... that taps for ... with "Morph", so you can play it as a 2/2 creature when you already have enough land.

Anyone eles have a speculation on this land?

meecht says... #2

It'll probably be a filter land, like Shimmering Grotto or Unknown Shores .

jwe94 says... #3

Maybe it could be a new morph land but it kind of seems like they would just reprint Zoetic Cavern if they really wanted a morph land. I personally am hoping for a new (and usable) five colored land which would make some sense helping out with all the wedge decks, but only time will tell.

September 9, 2014 3:11 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #4

I hope it's either Forsaken City , Rhystic Cave or Untaidake, the Cloud Keeper . Let's get a really BAD land reprint haha

September 9, 2014 3:12 p.m.

Rayenous says... #5

I was unaware of the card Zoetic Cavern .... you are probably right in thinking they would just reprint that rather than making a new version of it with a different name... perhaps something similar, but with a Morph cost of revealing a land from your hand to go with the reveal a card cycle.

Probably will just be a new filter land. :(

Tomb of ugin. Calling it right now.

I think mathimus55 has a pretty strong guess in Tomb of Ugin.

my money is on Tolarian Academy .

September 9, 2014 3:27 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #9

I feel like Tolarian Academy would have already been spoiled for some reason. I like the Tomb of Ugin guess, but what does it doooo?

Gemstone Mine is my guess

Tomb of Ugin

Land

When ETB Deals 5 damage to target creature

2 Tap: Deals 1 damage to target creature or player

Tap: Add 1 to your mana pool

Wasteland is coming back

September 9, 2014 3:49 p.m.

Gruss029 says... #13

How about something along the lines of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth :

Tomb of Ugin
Lands you control have tap: add to your mana pool. Probably way too efficient, but it'd be awesome.

or the whole colorless burn spell business:

Tomb of Ugin
tap to add to your mana pool.
, tap: Tomb of Ugin deals 3 damage to target creature or player.

September 9, 2014 3:51 p.m.

00xtremeninja says... #14

spyroswiz If they reprinted Wasteland, Legacy players would be rioting in the streets, and Modern players would all have massive heart attacks. Would be so awesome to see though.

"hey we got new, Modern useable fetches!""EFFING AWESOME!""Oh, Wizards is also giving us the tri color lands, cluestone style artifacts, and life gain lands.""WHOA! MANA FIXING FTW!""Hey, Wasteland is also getting a reprint too. Lots of nonbasic lands in standard to deal with.""RABBLEGARBBLEOHMGEEARGGHHHHHHHHHHHAWESOMELULZTROLLMARORESERVEDLISTGRABHSHAFHASDFKHDASFKH!"

I'm hoping for a Karakas ! (JK)

September 9, 2014 3:56 p.m.

Well there is another tomb card in standard now. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and it makes all lands swamps. Is it possible that the tomb of ugen could do something similar...

I think that the ugin card has already been spoiled in Ugin's Nexus

You have been warned

September 9, 2014 3:58 p.m.

Lol I got super ninja'd Guess this is what I get for getting distracted.

September 9, 2014 3:59 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #20

Just a reminder, Wasteland and Karakas are NOT on the reserve list. That means they could be reprinted at any time :)

September 9, 2014 3:59 p.m.

Rayenous says... #21

@trentfaris242.... true, they are not on the reserve list... but they do not fall between Thornwood Falls and Tranquil Cove alphabetically.

"Tomb of 'Insert name here'" certainly fits... Ugin's would be the most likely... but any previously revered Dragon would fit nicely.

Probably the Tomb of some randomly named 5-color dragon... and the land will still be a filter land. :(

September 9, 2014 4:05 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #22

@Rayenous Ya I didn't mean this set, just that they could be reprinted "technically" (I very highly doubt they will be any time soon).

September 9, 2014 4:07 p.m.

mathimus55 says... #23

I think since they are pushing the tri-color and have given it so much help so far and IF it's tomb of ugin after all it could look like this

Tomb of Ugin

Legendary land

: add to you mana pool

: add 3 mana to your mana pool of any combination of colors.

Obviously the wording would be tighter and work better, but they wouldn't be designing these on their phones

September 9, 2014 4:21 p.m.

Murpy says... #24

How about a functional reprint of strip mine, but with the ability to sacrifice it to win the game? But it should tap for any color mana, so that it doesnt make any one wedge too powerful. and you can have as many as you want in a deck, to make sure we have mana consistency in standard.

Tomb of Surrak Dragonclaw

Legendary land

: Add to your mana pool

, sacrifice Tomb of Surrak Dragonclaw: Target company delays spoiling the card of your choice for the next ten years.

I think this seems like something WOTC would do. It doesn't feel super over or under powered. Just the right amount of hate towards Temur players.

...

September 9, 2014 4:41 p.m.

Murpy says... #27

very balanced, but dont you think it would be abused by the wotc staff. I mean crucible of worlds...

September 9, 2014 4:49 p.m.

mathimus55 says... #28

Spootyone I think you nailed it

September 9, 2014 4:52 p.m.

Spootyone says... #29

Ah good point. Well let's just make it "Target company delays spoiling the card of yoru choice forever" then. Can't go infinite with a card designed to go infinite, right?

September 9, 2014 4:53 p.m.

Murpy says... #30

Of course. But give it some kickass flavor text and a picture of a giant dragon and im sure the magic community will understand

September 9, 2014 4:56 p.m.

Murpy says... #31

on a serious note, they didnt have the cards all lined up alphabetically. (it that betrays = 7, kozilek = 6)

September 9, 2014 4:59 p.m.

Spootyone says... #32

Flavor text: "One day you will understand the power held over us all. On that day, you will join us."

It's flavorful, vague, and powerful-sounding. Perfect for such a card.

September 9, 2014 5:01 p.m.

Murpy says... #33

exactly. Maybe you could also have it ban cards? and make jace, the wallet sculptor tokens

September 9, 2014 5:06 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #34

How about Tomb of Zurgo Helmsmasher?

Legendary Land

Tap: Add 1 to mana pool

Tap: Wizards spoils the card of your choice right now

September 9, 2014 5:14 p.m.

spyroswiz says... #35

Does anyone know when they are going to spoil Surrak? We've been waiting for long time.

September 9, 2014 5:30 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #36

could be another pay 1, tap for any color land. No biggie

September 9, 2014 5:34 p.m.

00xtremeninja says... #37

i think it will be the greatest land of all time;

underground volcanic badlanded scrubby taiga on a svannah in the tundra with a tropical bayou on an island.

oh, and can be grabbed with a fetch land. doesn't come into play tapped..............

Booster's now valued at 1.5 million each.

September 9, 2014 5:45 p.m.

tman007 says... #38

Let's go for a Hammerheim reprint.

September 9, 2014 5:47 p.m.

Korombos says... #39

My wild speculation would be Tap for 3, this mana can only be spent to cast morph creatures

September 9, 2014 5:56 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #40

they wont spoil surrak...

September 9, 2014 7:48 p.m.

TexasDice says... #41

I highly doubt it will be something that provides 5-color fixing.

The design team took the same path back in Alara. They want people to play the tricolor combinations without splashing too much into all directions (well, atleast until conflux came out...)

While splashing Cruel Ultimatum into a Bant Deck wasn't impossible back then, cards like Grixis Panorama and Obelisk of Grixis were way less desireable picks than something like Manalith or Evolving Wilds .

September 9, 2014 8:11 p.m.

quesobueno123 says... #42

How about a morph land where when it flips face up you sac it and destroy two target lands for four mana?

September 9, 2014 8:16 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #43

they will not spoil surrak

September 9, 2014 8:31 p.m.

LordOfDispair says... #44

I like a "T: add 3 to your mana pool that can only be spend on morph creatures" land

They also might reprint an old card and cause a huge upset, but I think they've done plenty of that already with fetches.

jchudz says... #46

The last land would probably be a new terrible source of land destruction like Encroaching Wastes since there will be non in the format after RTR rotates.

Something like:

2, T: sacrifice this land, target player sacrifices a non-basic land.

September 9, 2014 11:50 p.m.

Spootyone says... #47

I cant tell if LD seems plausible or non-plausible due to the fact that WOTC wanted to push fixing in this set.

September 9, 2014 11:54 p.m.

Murpy says... #48

I like the morph idea, but I think it will be tomb of ugin, and it could maybe search for a dragon, or tap for multiple mana to cast dragon spells. You know, crucible of fire was in m15.

September 10, 2014 8:52 a.m.

Rayenous says... #49

I don't think multiple mana to cast Dragon spells will be feasible in this set. - There are no dragons.

I could see it in a later set of the block, but not this one... the ability would have to be on a rare card... but with no dragons it would always be a last pick.

I could see it being:
:
: spend this mana only on colorless creature spells or Dragon spells.

This would fit Ugin's colorless theme, and would make it useable for Morph, and still be useable for dragons.

September 10, 2014 10:50 a.m.

dongilbert says... #50

mathimus55 - you were right on the idea, just wrong on the name. Tomb of the Spirit Dragon.
