So Gisa focuses on making hordes of Zombies, Geralf makes one (potentially) huge dude. Thoughts?

I dig it. My mill EDH deck loves this.

I like how he pairs so well with Gisa herself. Make a fatty with him, sac it to Gisa for a horde of zombies. A bit of a failure on the flavor side, considering how much they hate each other, but its just so good mechanically.

It's not really a flavor fail, because they do work together very well in the lore. They nearly destroyed Thraben working together.

Sweet glad they did Geralf as well as i said with Gisa i've wanted those two to have cards for ages. Hm this kinda makes me want to make a Grimgrin EDH simply so i can viably use both of them. Also shame its exile otherwise he'd have some stupid potential.

i dont think it was that they hate each other, they just have a strong sibling rivalry. but i do agree that Gisa and Geralf have good synergy

No Gisa definitely hates Geralf and Geralf seems to just see her as a pawn for his own means and fun when he's bored.

I don't like that it only exiles cards milled by the ability. That's really narrow and relies on your opponent(s) running enough creatures to make the ability profitable.

Also, there aren't very many "sacrifice a creature: do something based on creature's P/T" available to mono-Blue. The only one I can think of it is Altar of Dementia . All he does is create a beat stick with zero evasion. Why couldn't the token at least have swampwalk?

GoldGhost012 says... #9

Because shaabs don't usually have abilities except for exiling creatures from your grave as an additional cost or milling yourself when they ETB.

I like him, but it's a bit weird, cause you have to keep track of each tokens p/t...

swkelly89 says... #11

it is nice though bc unlike the skaabs where you have to exile from your graveyard, with Geralf its from any graveyard. as for the tokens, it'll probably be best just to extra crads and some dice

August 14, 2014 11:42 a.m.

meecht says... #12

You could put the exiled cards under the tokens to keep track of the sizes.

I personally don't like dice are used to keep track of anything except counters. It's confusing

meecht, I hope that's what people do!

Holy Vorthos, Wizards! Melvin approves of sibling synergy.

Critisim: He's really bad as a tribal commader, because all the zombie support is in black.

He does get Undead Alchemist though.

jwe94 says... #17

He also gets Rooftop Storm but yeah not the best color choice if he's a zombie tribal commander

I'm just glad they printed Geralf as a card. My favorite part is that he exiles Eldrazi Titans before their graveyard trigger resolves (without having to run Extirpate or Surgical Extraction ). So now mill has a better chance at not falling on its face

The rest of the gravy gets shuffled in when you Geralf it away still, right?

SevenSeasAgo says... #20

People need to realize the neither Gisa, nor Geralf should be used as tribal commanders. Sure, you could try to make it work, but it would be smarter of you to use Grimgrin to get both colors, or one of the Grixis zombies if you need to.

Yes MagicalHacker, the rest of the yard will still be shuffled back.

Stitcher Geralf... At last....

I have to say, I love the art! Geralf is being assisted by Oglor (Stitcher's Apprentice /Rooftop Storm ) to build Grimgrin, Corpse-Born ! You can see the bear trap along the neck in the artwork.

As a card, now that the mad twins have been spoiled, I am really tempted to rebuild my Grimgrin EDH deck...

Awesome flavor. I just wish he was 1 less mana! they could make a lot of really cool cards playable by just not making them 6 or 5 drops.

LordOfDispair says... #25

lol completely didn't notice it was a commander card. nevermind.

ExileThis says... #26

Alizer313 that's my new challenge. Exile some random skaabs with strange art, and make it into a 5/5. Build your own Grimgrin. He seems to want to be your commander more, while gisa wants to be in the 99 of Grimgrin, Corpse-Born or Thrax.
