What do you guys think the khan for temur will do?

KrosanTusker says... #2

Potentially something with the 4-or-greater mechanic. I'm willing to bet that his own power is four. He may reduce costs of creatures, or have a fight-like ability. That's my guess.

Surrak Dragonclaw -

When Surrak Dragonclaw enters the battlefield creatures you control gain +4/+4, Trample, and Haste until the end of the turn.

4/3

or he makes the 4/4 bear token.

September 8, 2014 3:52 p.m.

When he enters, put an X/X bear token onto the battlefield, where X is the greatest power among creatures you control. Maybe and a 4/4

LittleBlueHero says... #7

One thing RUG all have in common that hasn't been explored much is that they all have at some point taken control of opponents creatures.

It would be cool if Surrak could bend opponents creatures to his will and potentially make himself bigger with each creature you control but don't own?

He would be a 4/? just to enable Ferocious.

Nigeltastic says... #8

He has 2 activated abilities:

Punch your opponent in the face: Make a 2/2 bear token.
Punch a bear token in the face: Put a token into play that is a copy of your opponent.

Surrak Dragonclaw 4GUR

4+/4+

I doubt his power/toughness would be asemetrical, but I would lean more toward power if I had to make a choice.

We haven't seen ferocious on more that 1 creature, so idk if trigger on creatures is based on attacking. If so, then he will global buff creatures so you want to attack

If ferocious only needs a power 4+ to trigger, he will probably have a ETB and/or when he attacks ability (such as 4/4 bear tapped and attacking...)

He will not have an activated ability because no other khan has an activated ability

He will probably not have a reveal cards off the top ability because we got See the Unwritten

He will probably not have a fight ability because we got Temur Charm

He will most likely be a 7 drop because each khan has had a unique cost

He will most likely be power 4+ to trigger ferocious

Actually, cheaper to play a creature may be very interesting as an ability because it can be paired with Temur Ascendancy and you can just burn through the deck playing creatures, drawing cards, and then slam in with haste

My only speculation on him is that he will be on the Karametra, God of Harvests level of disappointment.

He will remain a Flavortext only character, because Wizards hate us.

I notice: what does everyone who wants to play temur want? Big fat creatures for cheap. What gets spoiled for temur? Instants, sorceries, creatures with power<4 so as to not be able to trigger ferocious

Surrak Dragonclaw

Legendary Creature- Human Warrior

When Surrak Dragonclaw attacks, target creature you control gains trample and +2/+1 until end of turn.

Creature spells you control with power 4 or greater cost less to cast.

6/4

September 8, 2014 6:06 p.m.

DarkHero says... #16

if you control a creature with power 4 or greater, Surrak becomes an 8/8 indestructible Bear

RU- Creatures you control get +3/+3 and trample until end of turn

G2- Put a 2/2 green Bear creature token into play

because Bears

VampireArmy says... #17

Noooo they're 4/4 damnit!!!

September 8, 2014 9:07 p.m.

He needs to be wearing the bear. When he enters play, make a legendary bear token. You can sacrifice the bear (in addition to some mana cost) to give him some boost. That would be mega-flavorful. Kinda like Tolsimir Wolfblood .

weisemanjohn says... #19

I keep hearing 4/4 bear token but I see no proof of a 4/4 bear token... Is this just because of bear punch and the fact that ferocious requires power 4+?

rho.reduction says... #26

Is it possible he's something like Geist, only the 4/4 bear sticks around afterwards?
Something like:

Surrak
1-2
Whenever ~ etb or attacks, put a 4/4 bear token into play.
2/3 (or some low power/toughness since 4/4 tokens that stick around are pretty good)

VampireArmy Isn't that just some artwork cropped to fit the card? Seriously, I'm not sure. Saw it earlier and I get psyched but I've prepared myself for Surrak to be the last card spoiled. In the worst case of how spoilers are released, of course.

AAAAWH, Why does it have to say "Other"?

Still sweet though, a 6/6 with flash for 5 to justifies deckslots. This seems actually amazing against blue based control decks, because they can't to a lot after you drop this during their endstep.

For EDH... He has built in protection from Spell Crumple and Hinder , so he seems pretty attractive against my decks... Hmm...

Definitely not what I was expecting, but he does seem pretty awesome. I just wish he had trample as well...

September 10, 2014 5:43 p.m.

Spootyone says... #32

The fact that the argument "why doesn't he also have trample?" is the best one against this guy speaks to just how powerful he truly is.

All this time, I was under the impression we were going to see a 7-drop. So upon seeing that he was rather a 5-drop...well...I think my reaction was "oh, fuck yeah!"

Vanilla test? He's a 6/6 for 5 mana. Awesome. And while the 5 cmc slot is already a bit crowded, I think Surrak clearly has earned his place as a 2-of. He feels like a Theros god, but one that is always actually a creature. Think for a minute just how strong that really is.

Now, let's address the fact that he ISN'T a vanilla creature. He is a midrange beater that cannot be countered. That's never going to be bad and in many cases is really going to be devastating to the control player. He gives all your creatures the same ability. (brain explodes) Now, every single one of your creatures is a Loxodon Smiter that needs to be hit by removal instead of being countered.

But wait, there's more! Surrak also makes every single one of those creatures tramplers!. Did you know that Polukranos, World Eater didn't have trample? Because he doesn't. And he needed it. And the curve of Poluk into Surrak is not to be underestimated. Many midrange beaters in standard right now are are deemed "bad" simply because they don't have trample -- this guy fixes every one of them.

You want icing on the cake? Good, because THERE'S STILL MORE WRITING ON THIS GUY.

flash

Such a simple addition. And yet it brings Surrak's potential to an entire magnitude of greater scale. What if you could give your Poluk trample...at instant speed? What if you could respond to a Dissolve ...with Surrak? (mana notwithstanding, mind you) What if you could hold up mana for some form of instant (let's say Temur Charm ) and then flash this guy in EoT. What if you can flash him in as a surprise blocker for an opposing Polukranos when they play around your counterspell? Your opponent plays Elspeth and uses her -3 to attampt a survival? That's fine -- you were prepared for that. Just flash this guy in EoT and kill her.

This isn't even magical christmas land, people. We haven't even touched upon that yet. Imagine all these amazing things when paired up alongside Temur Ascendancy . Imagine this guy on T3 with the help of Elvish Mystic and Sylvan Caryatid /Rattleclaw Mystic . Imagine this guy alongside Prophet of Kruphix , just flashing in a ton of creatures that can't be countered and that can trample in the following turn...

I'm telling you all now, this card does not need trample. Just look at the above example and enjoy our new overlord, ManBearPunch.

September 10, 2014 6:04 p.m.

I think this also raises a question about the development of creatures. This card? Pushed. Pushed farther than most anything we've seen in a long time.

ManBearPunch...awesome.

@ GlistenerAgent

In general creatures are weak because for one or two mana it can die without some kind of crazy protection coughcoughhexproofcoughcough

I like this, I think a 6/6 for 5 isn't much above the curve for a green deck, and he's susceptible to everything. His saving grace really is Flash. He requires a response for sure, I love it.
