Swell of Awesomeness

I'm personally pumped for a dinky common from BfZ, Swell of Growth. A instant speed pump spell with extra land play? I'd pay that just for the land, the +2/+2 is just a bonus. And in a format that has the landfall mechanic? Wow.

So is it just me or is Swell of Growth (redundant name btw) as busted as it appears to be or is it just me? There's a lot of other 1-2-4 ramp enablers but the instant speed and reasonable cmc just seems way too powerful for a common. And the land enters untapped? Not that I'm complaining (what kinda green Mage would I be?) but also not sure if my initial assessment is valid. Any thoughts? It clearly puts Rampant Growth to shame assuming you have a land in hand...

I think it's a great common. One of the best out there. Well, there's Lotus Petal but yeah, great card.

"assuming you have a land in hand". The reason I think that this is fine at common is that putting an extra land into play is good giving your creatrue +2/+2 is normally good....but you have to satisfy both of these to be bonkers. Like you dont want to just play it to deal more damage on turn 2 wwith your 1 drop you wanna trade up with one of your smaler creatures and by then you might not have any more lands in your hand so satisfying both effectively can be difficult.

EmblemMan yeah that makes sense. Kinda like Vines of Vastwood. Would be great with Monastery Swiftspear to swing for 4 turn 2 and have 4 mana on turn 3. The art is decent but I woulda preferred it wasn't a lizard she was growing but an octopus or something. The flavor text is super cool, shows Kiora and Nissa know each other.

I think if you're playing a deck with more than average lands, it could be good, but a lot of decks that want to be playing it probably will be playing less than the normal 24 lands, as it's more of an aggro card.

I just think Atarka's Command is just better provided you have access to red.

I was thinking it might actually be good for an aggro-landfall deck, if such an archetype comes about. If you don't need many lands to play the game, there's some value to being able to trigger landfall at instant speed, so you could intentionally miss a later-game land drop to turn that dead draw into a bit of a buff.

FinchFalcon, I was actually thinking the same thing. Landfall aggro decks seems like they may be a thing with Swell of Growth. I have a deck brewed that I'm actually currently testing it out in (Landfall aggro).

I think if you usuall on pass turn 4 in the game (willfully or not) it becomes good, as you can hold back land, but if you are going all out aggro, it's very iffy.
