the block after the theros block
Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

my friend and i were playing a game when all of the sudden this became the topic. what would the block be like? and from both of us knowing some lore in magic. we know that the story of alara, zendikar, and new phyrexia, werent entirely finished. so this brought up the discussion where would the story line go? we thought that it could be a return to one of those planes and that the dragon planeswalker nicol bolas could make his grand appearance on zendikar and fight to control the eldrazi. this was just a thought of ours and we would like some other opinions. also with the rotation of shock lands going out of standard. we discussed the potential for the reprint of fetch lands.
I don't know if it's going to be that epic (though that idea sounds sick), but according to this, it's going to be something cool.

As much fun as that would be, Maro confirmed three things about Huey, Dewie, and Louis (the codenames for the next block). 1. It is a new plane. That means we aren't returning anywhere :(. 2. It's a bottom-up design. So it's starting from some mechanical reference point as opposed to a flavorful one. 3. It has a special block structure. What that means, I have no idea.
Here's the source for those curious.

There's also the possibility that the block might be in some way associated with "Warlords of Khanar," as WotC has trademarked that name

I think that the block after Theros will be centred around Sarkhan Vol and his home plane. The set starts off with the plane of Khanar then Sarkhan casts some kind of world altering spell that transforms Khanar into Tarkir and then reintroduces dragons to the new plane.

I like Izzet. Im hoping that they reprint a few of the older planeswalkers that will be going into modern if they dont reprint them; like Ral Zarek. Also alot of the very good cards for Izzet like Guttersnipe, Goblin Electromancer, Izzet charm, Counterflux.

I am also a fan of the izzet but I do not see any of those cards returning to standard for awhile especially if the next block has anything to do with warlords khans or dragons but if they do a re-return to ravnica we might see them again but that shouldn't be for at least another six years

MY SPECULATION:For the "unique block structure" I predict LARGE-SMALL-SMALL-SMALL.WotC has "Warlords of Khanar" trademarked...so....I bet it is a battle over Khanar between 3 warlord brothers. (huey, dewey and lewie...aka Green, Red and Blue...)
LARGE: To Introduce us to the plane of Khanar and the general flavor of the plane. Maybe a war-torn Central Asia (as many have speculated) with 2 or 3 Warlord brothers all striving for control over a rich source of power which has been rumored to exist in Khanar. Maybe in a neutral zone where the only way for them to access it is to kill the other (one or two) brothers and ultimately command the plane.
SMALL: To introduce us to the campaign of the first brother and his plans to invade his brother's territories and extend his search for (whatever)
SMALL: To introduce us to the 2nd brother...etc...a battle ensues and the stronger brother/army prevails...move to block 4 and the FINAL SHOWDOWN.
SMALL: To introduce us to the 3rd brother...etc and feature the final battle over Khanar.
Each block introduces the military tactics employed by each brother...same triggers with different effects across the colors they command...much how heroic existed for each color.
All brothers will be 3 color legendary creatures and will command armies of their assigned mono-colored minions.
Better yet, these visions of "a rich source of power" can be a trick beset by Nicol Bolas to try to get the plane to tear itself apart by war, then...when the source of power is unlocked, Bolas swoops in and steals it and we venture back to New Phyrexia in 2015 where bolas will use this power source to command the phyrexian horde entirely.
I'm not sure how things ended for Kamahl at the end of Judgement (I quit playing for many years and restarted in 2012) but it would be wild to see him make an appearance as a planeswalker...if he is still alive?

It could also be that the first set is on Khanar then it would be trasmormed into Tarkir for the last two. That's how the the Lorwin/Shadowmoor sets were. The first set would be its own block and the next two would be a block this could also explain the unique block structure
And btw at the end of judgement Kamahl retreats into the Korean forest and then kills laquatus. But some years later dies and is reunited with his sister Jeska.

What do you think the draft structure for a 4-set block would be? Seems like it could make for some interesting scenarios.

... dig dig dig...
I wish somebody would make a classic Medieval fantasy setting.
Okay, we already have a lot of Soldiers, Dragons, Zombies and Bant was basically a Knight kingdom. It also seems a bit boring nowadays after all these movies, books, games and probably also compared to in lore stuff like Eldrazi or a city that covers an entire Plane.
But I am such a huge sucker of that stuff. Lord of the Rings, Elder Scrolls, Game of Thrones, all that stuff in one block could be the best thing ever.
Another interesting thing; Egypt. We already had a bit of that in Arabian Nights and later, but thats was like 20 years ago.

Maybe this will become a double block, like 6 sets for one huge block with a core set in between. That could be awesome.

Wizards has been trying to avoid that since domanaria so I doubt they would do that but it is entirely possible. I'm just glad to see that people are thinking outside the box

I've heard rumors about Return to Zendikar..........
May 1, 2014 11:14 p.m.
I think return to zendikar won't be happening in the next set. Maro himself has said that the next block takes place on a new plane, as previously stated. We should get some information on the next set pretty soon.

Ive been looking at some planechase cards as im pretty sure the next plane will have been mentioned there and here are my ideas, Arkhos, a plane in which day and night intermingle, creating a twilight in which one never knows what is dream and what is reality. Iquatana, Its inhabitants, the Iquati, create Narcomoebas to store information as a replacement for the lost Iquati geneaological memory.Iquatana's surface features a lot of sinkholes and chimneys. The chimneys vent out ther, which as a result makes up the bulk of the atmosphere. Muraganda, it would be fun to see my favorite commander's home plane. Belenon, a sophisticated plane with complex architecture and metal beasts.

This should probably go in the Spoilers and Rumors forum. Epochalyptik will probably move it eventually.
Alara was actually set in the past (it shows Ajani's origins pre-Lorwyn) and is very much resolved. There isn't really anything going on there that needs a recap. Zendikar, New Phyrexia, and arguably Return to Ravnica all were left hanging, so those are possible returns. Garruk and Liliana's stories are also kind of up in the air, but those can fit anywhere, really.
However, Mark Rosewater recently said the following about Huey block (the next block's codename) on his tumblr:
lemidget42 asked:
Can you tell us if Huey/Dewey/Louie is a thematic block or a mechanic block? Like, Innistrad/Theros was thematic while Ravnica was built around the mechanic of two-color.
markrosewater answered:
I can only restate what Ive already said because its too early to talk about Huey block. Its a new plane, its bottom-up design and there is something special about the block structure.
I believe you all are really going to like it so I am quite eager to talk about Huey block, but you all will have to wait a little longer.
So it isn't going to be a "Return to X" plane.
Rumor has it that Fetchlands will be reprinted in the next block, after the shocks have rotated. It is also widely believed that this reprint will include both the Zendikar Fetches and the Onslaught Fetches.
As for what the block will be like, it will most likely synergize with Theros block. I expect auras, devotion-enablers, and ramp for monstrous decks, but it's unclear other than that.
