capriom85 I'd try to remove the planewalkers instead.

"as though none of its loyalty abilities have been activated this turn." Pretty much says you can ignore the fact that it's loyalty abilities have been used previously.

Like I said, we all just need to stop and chill, we don't know anything yet.

trentfaris242 says... #4

I agree with Ohthenoises. There's absolutely no point in speculating about this. The notes will clearly define the rulings.

DrFunk27 says... #5

So did anyone else read the story that spoiled this? Damnation and ancestral vision were used and mentioned....perhaps a reprint?

July 2, 2014 11:30 a.m.

trentfaris242 says... #6

I am so done if they reprint Damnation this set. That's all black needs. Even more love. I'd be totally fine with them reprinting it post rotation but that would push me away from Standard for good.

chrishuffman95 says... #7

For the note of Kurkesh, he doesn't work with the Chain Veil, because copying the ability itself would just be redundant, and therefore useless.

July 2, 2014 11:45 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #8

IDK trentfaris242, W has a LOT of love too.

July 2, 2014 11:46 a.m.

trentfaris242 says... #9

But white hasn't been strong for the past year. I'm glad white is getting some love. They've been weak. Black has been at the forefront of every tournament and giving them additional control is just uncalled for.

July 2, 2014 11:55 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #10

Seeing as this has been Commander15 so far I wouldn't put it past them to reprint it.

That being said, I'd rather NOT see B with a wipe.

July 2, 2014 11:58 a.m.

trentfaris242 says... #11

It would be such a shame if at the eve of green coming back into the meta they print ANOTHER 4-drop board wipe. Yeah, I'm looking at you Supreme Verdict . Those things seriously disrupt creature based decks in the meta.

July 2, 2014 12:01 p.m.

meecht says... #12

I wouldn't mind a shift away from UW control to B/x control if Damnation is reprinted.

However, the "Name and Number Crunch" thread on MTGSalvation has no room for it. Black has Cruel Sadist at #93 and Endless Obedience at #94, which leaves no room for a D-named card.

tinbrown says... #13

Put this with kurkesh, Onakke ancient. Superfriends.... The combos are real

July 2, 2014 12:19 p.m.

jr92_2000 says... #14

I'd be very surprised if they reprinted Damnation , especially since they printed the much more conditional and expensive one last set, Extinguish All Hope .

I wouldn't mind playing with it though.

July 2, 2014 12:21 p.m.

DrFunk27 says... #15

Considering every card in the story has been confirmed in m15, I'm 90% confident damnation and ancestral vision is going to be reprinted in this core set or Khans.

July 2, 2014 12:33 p.m.

tinbrown, look at the Chain Veil again, doubling the ability wouldn't do anything because the ability doesn't stack.

July 2, 2014 12:38 p.m.

trentfaris242 says... #17

I've no problem with a Khans reprint of Damnation . Black is losing so much post rotation that they will need it.

July 2, 2014 12:43 p.m.

Skraz1265 says... #18

I'm also hoping for a Damnation reprint in khans. I think M15 would be too soon for it, since black is already so darn strong, but they lose a lot of their best cards post-rotation (thank god for no more games stolen by Pack Rat ). And as someone else said, it would be cool for a more Bx control meta, rather than the last two years of UWx.

It's about time Grixis got to shine again, I say :p

July 2, 2014 1:01 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #19

I have to say I love this.

I don't think it'll make standard play though. Even with the potential infinite combo I don't think it does enough. It will make for more planeswalker ultimates on kitchen tables though. That's a for sure.

July 2, 2014 1:23 p.m.

I'm pulling this out of this air, but did anyone else get a slight hint of the fetches from the article GoldGhost012 posted?

It took place in a catacombs... in a "verdant forest". All of the blood spilling from Liliana's arms.

Verdant Catacombs and Bloodstained Mire ? Not to get hopes up, but idk.

July 2, 2014 1:26 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #21

First a potential Damnation reprint, now fetches from that one article?

July 2, 2014 1:35 p.m.

Dalektable says... #22

1) The Chain Veil is amazing for flavor alone.

2) I would kill for Damnation reprint. That card is so damn expensive, I could use it for a deck or two. Also It would be pretty nice to have a wrath effect that didn't cost 7 mana for Esper Control...

July 2, 2014 1:36 p.m.

Rayenous says... #23

Regarding #2... Perilous Vault?

July 2, 2014 1:38 p.m.

Well, my fetch speculation is essentially baseless. I was curious if anyone thought the sane thing. I would be excited for a Damnation reprint though

July 2, 2014 1:51 p.m.

DrFunk27 says... #25

I didn't really see anything as far as fetches, especially not for M15. MAYBE Khans, but that's even a stretch. I'm just saying Damnation and Ancestral Visions and the Seraph Guardian are the only cards in that story that aren't confirmed to be in M15 yet, so basing it off that, I'd say it will be in M15. Just my thoughts. I'd honestly hate to see Damnation back in Standard, but would love a reprint. Black already gets all the love.

July 2, 2014 1:58 p.m.

Rayenous says... #26

I just think that, aside form relative strength, a reprint of Damnation in M15 would take away from the heavy flavour that Wizards put into In Garruk's Wake (as bad as that card may be).

For all of those people saying that the L3 judge's tweet was proof that this can't go infinite I present this.

July 2, 2014 4:13 p.m.

tinbrown says... #28

chrishuffman95 my friend noticed it to. It doesn't work cuz it can't be a mana ability

July 2, 2014 4:32 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #29

chrishuffman95 The ability does stack. Confirmation via twitter from Matt Tabek.

tinbrown a "mana ability" is NOT something that requires mana to activate. a Mana ability is an activated ability that produces mana. See Gilded Lotus . The ogre, and Rings of Brighthearth effects would be able to copy the ability of The Chain Veil.

July 2, 2014 4:39 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #30

Rayenous With the horde mentality that seems to be spawning from this what about seeing Chain Reaction coming back? Honestly that would be pretty flavorful.

Actually what might be better is for B "Each creature gets -X/-X until end of turn, where X is the number of creatures on the battlefield"

July 2, 2014 4:45 p.m.

Ohthenoises Link to the tweet?

July 2, 2014 4:48 p.m.

Never mind, I literally just saw it. Hot damn

July 2, 2014 4:49 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #33

Well I linked the tweet where Riki took back what he said.

Here is Matt's first tweet, I'm sure you can find the others.

Because this totally affects their lives...it's the Chain Veil people...I'd be disappointed with anything less.

July 2, 2014 9:42 p.m.

CW says... #39

I don't get the hype over it, to me its like a worse Contagion Engine , I can't see this being relevant in standard.

But what do I know, I loaded up on 10 playsets of Breaking / Entering and have them held at a tight grip.

I got them at 2.00 per set, feels good man.

July 2, 2014 10:03 p.m.

Breaking / Entering isn't that bad of a pickup, it's a worse Glimpse the Unthinkable that's actually still good.

But I could see the Chain Veil maybe seeing play in Bant Superfriends.

July 3, 2014 7:10 a.m.

Rayenous says... #41

@CW: Saying it's a "Worse Contagion Engine " is a poor comparison.

Sure a Contagion Engine can get 2 extra loyalty on each PW you control... but you don't get to use the PW's abilities an extra time.

Untapping 8x land with Nissa, Worldwaker
Untapping 4x Land with Garruk Wildspeaker (okay, not great as it costs 4 to activate... but at least the activation is paid for)
Elspeth Tirel going ultimate on the turn you cast her.
Using the New Ajani to make most other PW's go ultimate the turn they are cast.
The list just goes on...

I will say, that it's a bit niche as it only works well with a "critical mass" of Planeswalkers in a deck (i.e.: "Super Friends" deck)... but it is going to be powerful when done right.

July 3, 2014 7:59 a.m.

CW says... #42

Rayenous, the thing is (excluding EDH where just about any card can see play) this does nothing for constructed formats, at turn 4 you would rather play one of your 4 cost walkers or creatures in standard, you don't want to waste 2 turns just to plus your Domri or Ashiok 3 times.

Modern has faster combos, and legacy shouldn't even be mentioned.

With Nissa, Worldwaker youre untapping 4 lands, with Garruk Wildspeaker youre effectively tapping 2 lands to activate the veil, Elspeth tirel can go ultimate the turn it comes back to you that automatically makes the 9 mana you need to do it turn 5 irrelevant.

Contagion engine effects +1/+1, -1/-1, charge, loyalty, poison, and any other special counters on permanents, plus its potentially a board wipe, and has no chance to hurt you.

The Chain Veil is a win-more card.
