The next new plane...?

Which New Plane Shall We See Next?
In our story so far there are a few different arcs we could follow post War. The first is the question of "Why Garruk wasn't pulled to this War too?" in which Maro said "we'll see him soon enough". That really doesn't give us a 'where' unless for some reason he's stuck on Shandallar. However, with that being said we can assume he is the next Super Villain. We can rule out return sets because we are in a return block, so Nissa and Zendikar are out as well as Gideon (RIP) and Theros.
New planes related to our main Gatewatch players are Vryn (Jace) and Regatha (Chandra). Now no where have I seen any hints or clues as to what we'll see next, I do however have some speculation based on observations of the current standard where it is said 'Red is suffering, and doesn't have anything to make it shine'. I'm paraphrasing a bit to sum it up in one sentence. That makes me think red is about to get a big boost and what better way than a set/plane based around a red planeswalker.
We got a comic on Chandra that is based in post WotS time, so they already have some story there (haven't read it myself mind you). That could be our clue that it is being set up as our next story arc, to follow Chandra wherever she may roam.
Google failed me in my search of anything regarding new planes, but I know I saw a list Maro made based on votes of what people wanted to see most. I tried finding it to see where Regatha fell on that particular list, so maybe someone else can link it in the comments.
I know I said no clues earlier but I just remembered there was one very vague clue. Maro said on his tumbler (again, the link eludes me) that we'll be going someplace he's been wanting to visit for the past 10 years. If that was every mentioned... only the most avid of followers would know for sure.
So now that my thoughts are out of the way, where do you all think we will go next? Post your own speculations below, and thanks to anyone who happens across the missing information. Sorry if it seems disorganized, it's been written on and off throughout the day.
In one of the recent videos from the professor, he claimed the rights to a bunch of sites with mtg-related names. The only one that was taken was kaldheim-related.
My guess is that we are heading Viking-infested land of Kaldheim next.

My question is, how can red be suffering when there is such a mass of strong burn spells still in standard?

ZendikariWol, Boza: A viking theme could be refreshing, as well as give us a chance to visit Warrior, Beserker, shaman tribes again I think. But how does it tie into the current story? A note on Vryn though, I think it'll be awhile before we have another 'Jace Centric' set.
GhostChieftain: Alot of folks think red hasn't been given enough support is the last few sets, good removal being the most popular topic (based on observations across different forums, not personal opinion). If you have an argument otherwise I'm sure there are those who'd like to hear and be part if that discussion.

Well if a lot of people think that red isn’t getting a lot of support, a viking-themed set would probably do nicely.

Didn't think of that but yes, that could be a possibility. I'm sure some form of 'Norse Gods' would come into it to.

I would imagine, if we visited Kaldheim, we would find Garruk, somewhat in control of his curse, as a warlord there who usurped the power in the region.
Plus, Lili destroy the Chain Veil when dealing with bolas. So maybe his curse was lifted?

I would probably argue Red has seen the least amount of support from a Vorthos perspective as well. Most mono-Red entities are fairly generic, defined by their anger (other passions seem less supported by card design, though any form of passion might be considered red). It would be nice to see some other sides to the colour.
To that end, a Norse plane would be perfect. While strength and physical prowess was respected in Nordic culture, mental acumen was seen as equally important, if not more so. Skill with law (the oldest existing democratic body is, after all, a Nordic invention), wit with poetry, the ability to peacefully settle disputes, skill at board games, etc. are all heavily lauded in Nordic literature. There’s some great potential for Red to make some characters that are a bit more complex than we usually see from the colour.

cdkime while I think that’s possible, and will likely even be really cool, I significantly doubt that wizards will explore those facets of Norse mythology, and will instead opt for a more traditional, albeit more bland approach.

I am by no means a standard player, but I know there is a lot of mono red and rakdos burn lists being played on arena (the little bit I have played), as well as izzet drakes being strong. I had not heard that red has been lacking at all, but I figured with the number of red and red/x decks it had to be doing okay.

Wait what if we have a red protagonist through Kaldheim (who’s not a planeswalker- OR A PYROMANCER) whose main goal is to just take down a tyrant. He’s brash, he’s aggressive, he’s not a spotless white knight, he wants the good of the people- that is, freedom. Maybe that tyrant is even Garruk??

Or perhaps a red bard; a total free spirit, carefree and chill. Someone who gets bored easily but knows that he never will be if he stays among friends and keeps his wanderlust sated.

A warrior bard who's form of magic is his songs as a means to impose emotional responses in others.
With that in the story as WotC will want any main character to be a PW, his (as the majority of red PW are female) spark will ignite in the story at some point leaving our story maybe not even fully resolved at this point for a future return but his story continues as he comes to grips with being a PW thrust onto a new plane.

I repeat: can we PLEASE have a protagonist who’s not a planeswalker? Please???
April 19, 2019 3:33 p.m.
I would love this but as I was trying to imply WotC will want it and thus we will get it. I miss the older stories without PW's as our main characters.

The problem with a non-walker hero from a design standpoint is in order to follow the hero you'd have to stay on the same plane for an extended period of time. Unlike the days of yore where there was The Weatherlight, Portals and rifts for our non- walkers to get around with, we as the customers need a change of scenery with each block in order to stay interested.
Though, on the flip side we have the Gatewatch traveling the multiverse, and if they are trying to stay from then being the primary spotlight I would think it would be a good idea to have a permanant hero to come back to upon a return visit, a familiar face if you will.

Mj3913 - luckily they've just rebuilt the Weatherlight, and have a whole crew of non-Planeswalkers, several of which have potential to be interesting characters. I, for one, am hoping we follow them around for a bit, then alternate between the Wealtherlight and Gatewatch so neither gets too boring.

The Weatherlight can no longer jump planes now though, unless Jhoira and her crew find a way to make it possible again.
I doubt we'll be making any trips to Disneyland, otherwise we'd have to have alot of the artwork changed to a PG rating.

Red surely is a nice option in best of one, but it ain't that great in best of three games imo.
April 20, 2019 6:33 a.m.
I think our next core set is going to be origins 2.0 of all the walkers saying their goodbyes returning to their respective home worlds. This could set up a whole number of things. Chandra and or Pia could take over for tezzeret’s position on kaladesh. Jace hands over his position and runs off with Vraska. What I think is most dramatic would be Elspeth using Gideon and friends to start a jail break of theros hell.

I have heard players on both this forum and elsewhere talking about Kladheim, as it seems to be a Norse mythology/viking-themed plane, and I very much wish to see such a plane, as well, but why is Kaldheim more popular than Valla? I would like to see that plane explored further, as that is where the Immersturm is located.

Are there any avid followers of Maro who may know for sure where he's been wanting to visit for the past 10 years?
ZendikariWol says... #2
I think one of three- either Vryn, Kaldheim, or, least likely but potentially most interesting, Theros’ Underworld.
