Have you seen the new borders (sorry for no link or anything...) they OUTRAGE me! If you don't like the new borders, please post here. I think they make it look more like a wannabee trading card game instead of the big-ass trading card game.

Ohthenoises says... #2

I assume you are talking about this?

May 1, 2014 9:19 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #3

Agreed. I would rather have people proxying than having shattty looking cards. lets start an uprising.

May 1, 2014 9:20 p.m.

More or less its the title font and the actual border, how it curves in. And Somewhat the holofoil stamp. Otherwise, Im chill with it.

Also, in one of their articles, they talked about how the past border change made people outraged. this is making me outraged.

May 1, 2014 9:21 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #5

Also, it'll make my decks weird because then there will not be consistency in border goddammit! also, what the fuck happens to modern!?

May 1, 2014 9:22 p.m.

ninja'd.

Also, I have sent an email to wizards. Please do that.

May 1, 2014 9:22 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #7

the borders before blew. No argument. bleww.

May 1, 2014 9:23 p.m.

its going to look terrible, with theros and m15 having different borders.

ninja'd again (and probably again this time..)

May 1, 2014 9:23 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #9

haha alrighty i will in a bit but its not gonna get read... i've never ninja'd someone before thats exciting! ... or was that not me that ninja'd you.

May 1, 2014 9:24 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #10

It's an attempt to stop counterfeiting, get over it; it's ultimately a good thing.

May 1, 2014 9:25 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #11

? but yeah agreed. My decks are going to look the retarded love of gollum and shrek.

May 1, 2014 9:25 p.m.

I got ninja'd by u. Also, they did respond to my email.

May 1, 2014 9:25 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #13

I'm kinda meh on it. I understand the reasons for it.

It all boils down to the fact that it's their game and they are doing what they can to minimize fraud.

May 1, 2014 9:26 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #14

@ ChiefBell Time for you to get a watch!

May 1, 2014 9:26 p.m.

ninjad by the chief. And, if they want to stop counterfeiting, they need to make minor changes that can't be easily replicated however.

May 1, 2014 9:26 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #16

What you mean like the holofoil at the bottom? Yeh, thats exactly what theyre doing.

May 1, 2014 9:27 p.m.

Yeah, so they don't have to have a font change or a terrible outside border! Just keep it simple!

May 1, 2014 9:28 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #18

If people really wanna counterfeit there is nothing stopping them. Somebody will find a way to make the little gold stamps and then wizards will change it again... i mean there is never going to be a time where counterfeiting stops. They be able to slow it temporarily but... temporarily.

May 1, 2014 9:28 p.m.

vote no! start an uprising against terrible border changes!

Just make the rarity sign foil, add some sort of special ink, do something else that doesn't change the outward appearance by a ton!

May 1, 2014 9:30 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #20

The font changes makes it near impossible for counterfeiters to copy, without realigning their printing methods and meticulously copying the font which takes AGES. The border changes mean counterfeiters need to realign their machines which costs a lot of money. Do you know how industrial printing works? It's not an easy process.

Slowing temporarily is the idea, they can change it again in 5 years time. But yes, there are thigns stopping them, not least time and money.

sigh. Stupid thread.

May 1, 2014 9:31 p.m.

Dandelo says... #21

Everyone complained about the change to the card that happened with 8th edition. I was one of the people that was very against it and thought it was going to mess up my decks and collection too. Guess what though? Everyone got over it and it was much more drastic than this change is. People are going to complain and then they'll get used to it and everything will be okay again.

May 1, 2014 9:35 p.m.

Faded says... #22

Rhinowarrior that might be true, but shouldn't wizards take steps to make it as difficult as possible? Maybe we should take the same approach with counterfeit money......

May 1, 2014 9:35 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #23

@ ChiefBell I don't think that it's a stupid thread. I think it is occupied by stupid people:D Also, changing there printing is not that hard. Sure it will cost money but the money made off the cards will Negate that!

May 1, 2014 9:36 p.m.

Dandelo says... #24

Haha, right there with you ChiefBell

May 1, 2014 9:37 p.m.

-Fulcrum says... #25

@ChiefBell: I wish we could +1 comments.

May 1, 2014 9:37 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #26

Changing the cards won't make anything not ok. I really don't understand why people are getting annoyed. It's not YOUR game. You have no valid opinion about how Wizards print the cards. Given that they're doing this for YOU, to stop disastrous future counterfeiting, I think it would be wise to stop sounding like a child and complaining about something that's only done to help. It's short sightedness.

May 1, 2014 9:38 p.m.

Um... so here's a question: why does everyone care about this change? I can't say this bothers me. It's just aethsetics.

May 1, 2014 9:39 p.m.

Faded says... #28

ChiefBell bit harsh but I couldn't agree more. It's a business, wizards needs to take steps to protect that business or else they will shutdown.

May 1, 2014 9:41 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #29

Rhinowarrior - they're increasing the overheads that counterfeiters have to pay to begin counterfeiting - which makes it seem less attractive by being more risky. This means fewer people will bother.

The attitude of some people in this thread reminds me of like 5 year old children being taken to the doctors by their mothers. They piss and moan and cry about having to have some tiny shot in their arm that ultimately doesn't hurt or impact their lives negatively in any way but they cry and cry and cry and complain and go on and on and on anyway. The mother's only trying to help their kid have the best and happiest future they can possibly have but still the kid is acting like it's all doom and gloom and grumble and moan etc.

...I like the borders...

May 1, 2014 9:46 p.m.

Arvail says... #31

I think they look okay. I have no reason to like either look over the other one and the change is totally warranted by the stuff going on in the market.

May 1, 2014 9:47 p.m.

EKGwins says... #32

ChiefBell, I would very much disagree, personally I don't mind the change because its just a border, however you say that people have no right to be upset. Wizards is a business, a business needs to make money through consumers and all consumers have a right to say whether or not they like the product or not.

Honestly it seems more childish to insult people who have their own opinions on card borders, they have every right to complain as they buy the cards.

I really mean no disrespect its more me being fed up with the way I see this community respond to people in the forums.

May 1, 2014 9:50 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #33

Lol, no. If someone says they're doing something to protect you and you then go on to complain because you don't like the way it looks - then you're completely missing the point and behaving in a childish manner.

  1. A consumer should be primarily interested in whether the product has value and worth (otherwise why buy it?).

  2. Counterfeiters reduce worth.

  3. Wizards stop this from happening by adding extra challenges to stop counterfeiters.

  4. You accept the change and thank Wizards. OR - if you want to behave like a child, you completely miss the point and complain.

May 1, 2014 9:55 p.m.

Drilnoth says... #34

My only problems with the new border are that it isn't even on the left and right and I don't like the capital letters in Beleren (though the other letters are fine). Literally everything else is an improvement, both practically for players and for the long-term health of the game.

Change isn't inherently bad.

Seriously, anyone who is complaining about the printing information and holofoil symbol isn't thinking about the long-term health of the game, and the printing information is helpful for everybody.

May 1, 2014 10:02 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #35

@ ChiefBell I kind of am a child. Children behave as such. Oh well I suppose. Sorry to complain about the borders. I was not aware that it would cause you such distress. If there is anything that I can do in order to comfort you in this time of disaster, please let that be known.

May 1, 2014 10:03 p.m.

How did this even happen? It's just a freaking aethsetical change. Good freaking lord, why does this warrant a discussion? Wizards can do whatever they damn well please since they make the cards. Be upset, but just know, being upset is utterly ridiculous.

May 1, 2014 10:04 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #37

I just prefer people to really think about what they're saying before they say it.

May 1, 2014 10:04 p.m.

EKGwins says... #38

Whether they are doing it for the good of the community or not is irrelevant. There are arguably an infinite number of designs that Wizards could use. Saying thanks for working against counter fitting, but could you try a different design is a perfectly legitimate complaint.

May 1, 2014 10:08 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #39

We were simply stating that we didn't like the new borders. Do you really think that we are going to start a revolution? Do you actually think that I am going to email wizards, as if that would change anything? Is it unreasonable to be upset because there will not be a consistent look to the decks that we are running. I am aware that the "old" border will rotate out and that decks will consist entirely of the "new" border in about a year. Until then, I will complain because not only is the new border not aestically pleasing, but it hurts my heart. Thank you all for your wonderful consideration and the ability to remain calm under the monumental pressure laid upon each of you when we blasphemed the new border.

Servo_Token says... #40

"I am upset, and the internet needs to know!"

The only thing that I am getting out of this thread.

The border change is fine. If Wizards says it'll help, who am I to go against that? I sell houses for a living, what the heck do I know about counterfeiting? Sure, it's only safe to assume that people will be upset over the changes, because people will always be upset over anything changing. Just this evening, I had to put up with my dad who was still barking about how Obama ruined the country.

If you really, sincerely want something changed because you feel that it has compromised the integrity and value system of your thing, then by all means, be angry. But don't be stupid angry, be productive angry. Go to all the lengths and means possible to try to get your opinion out there in attempt to change your thing for the better. Just don't vomit nonsense on a public forum, because that isn't going to do anything but make other people think that you're a moron.

Now, as for the new borders, I am a fan. I personally am a huge fan of the white bordered cards, and I wish that they would have just brought that back instead, but the new shape and design are a great change of pace. Sure, your deck won't have every card be exactly the same, but is that really that big a deal? No. If it is, good luck building a deck in an eternal format.

May 1, 2014 10:37 p.m.

ElPared says... #41

meh, I like it. It's pretty much the same as what we have now but has a holofoil stamp and a way to credit designers. Cool

May 1, 2014 10:43 p.m.

Drilnoth says... #42

Sure, your deck won't have every card be exactly the same, but is that really that big a deal?

As an EDH player who runs cards with pre-4E-frames, early black bordered frames, Fallen Empires-Stronghold black bordered frames, Exodus-Scourge black bordered frames, 8th and 9th edition white bordered frames, Mirrodin-Journey into Nyx black bordered frames (including both "colors" of artifacts), Pastshifted frames, Presentshifted frames, Futureshifted frames, double-faced frames, miracle frames, enchantment creature/artifact frames, eldrazi frames, split frames (new and old style), planeswalker frames, level-up frames, Unglued and Unhinged land frames, extended art frames, textless promo frames, and flip frames...

The inconsistency of having a new one won't really bother me.

May 1, 2014 10:45 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #43

its fine, I just hope they dont make a new format because of it though ;/

May 1, 2014 10:47 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #44

APPLE01DOJ

I would love to see a new modern, actually. Essentially, it'd be a budgeted version of modern, and would probably push Legacy off of the map as a viable competitive format (such as was the case with Vintage), but it'd be fun to have a new format to toy around with in the next few years.

May 1, 2014 10:50 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #45

If they made a new version of modern would that be called modern? But what then would the current modern be called? And if they decided to keep modern as it is and make a new format for the new border. What then would that be called?

May 1, 2014 11:13 p.m.

Blakkhand says... #46

@Rhinowarrior The new format would be called Post-Modern obviously.

May 1, 2014 11:23 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #47

aha!

May 1, 2014 11:24 p.m.

Krayhaft says... #48

If you guys really don't like the look of the new cards, just build mono-black decks without rares from now on. It will be less conspicuous then.

May 1, 2014 11:38 p.m.

EvenDryke says... #49

You don't like it because it's new and strange. I don't really like it either. I'll get over it, so will you.

May 1, 2014 11:46 p.m.

Rhinowarrior says... #50

@ Krayhaft I appreciate that you enjoy large, black decks. I however prefer small white weenies:) Those actually tend to be less conspicuous.

In all seriousness though, do you think we are so childish as to limit our deckbuilding solely due to the reason that we don't like the look of the border? Please. I said I didn't like it. I implore to not be so condescending. It really doesn't suite you. You are too nice for that.
