I like the idea, I find it gets boring around the third set in the block and the core sets so I think it will be more fun without them.

The idea is fresh, new, and exciting.
The news is not.

Here I was hoping they announced the reserved list was done away with

the community at large is very positive about the change, which is quite surprising. The news is quite old now, but I'm looking forward to seeing what comes down the pike.

As long as they stop powering down the cards coming from new sets, im down.
Right now thats precisely what makes Modern so hard to get into.
New cards dont make the cut into modern, since they are worse. So old cards are best, but since they are old, they are harder to find since they are no longer printed, thus it costs much more to enter Modern.

but then you'll have power creep, and Modern will just be an extension of Standard where the newer cards are always better.

Meh. Sets being in standard for 6 months less is lame. Spending less time in each design space is lame. Less flavour etc.

But people have really tiny attention spans now anyway, so there you go.

ChiefBell On one hand, I get that. On the other hand, I think most everyone would have been happier if Pack Rat world ended six months earlier than it did. Sometimes standard's awesome, and we love it. Sometimes its terrible. And anyway, if this doesn't work, they can always just revert back after a few years.

Drathen, of course we all remember what happened last time they made standard cards powerful enough to impact Modern...

@ Drathen
you clearly weren't paying attention to Modern after the release of KTK...

Well, KTK had: Fetches, Treasure Cruise, Dig Through Time, Monastery Swiftspear, and Siege Rhino.
There has been a recent decline in number of modern usable cards. Looking back at RTR block, there is only Deathrite Shaman (but not really anymore), Abrupt Decay, and Voice of Resurgence.
February 10, 2015 9:13 p.m.
1 is reprints, and 2 are banned now.
So we are left with Swiftspear and Rhino, which are new cards played.
Theros? Well Thoughtseize is a reprint, so we are left with Courser and a tiny bit of Keranos.
RTR well Deathrite is banned, so we have Abrupt and a tiny wee bit of Voice.
6 new cards played in the last 3 years. From which 4 are mainboard. Compare that to pre-Innistrad(Where by the way there wasn't many staples but they are such important ones that i decided not to mention it) where a good chunk is played, yeah..

Deathrite, cruise, and dig were all banned because they were too good, so at least it means they are still printing cards that happen to be good in modern, albeit too good. Fetches aren't really reprints, as this is their first time in modern.
I do agree, though. We do need more powerful cards. I know power creep is a threat, but power decline can be just as bad. It is funny that large quantities of modern playable cards stopped appearing immediately when the modern format became popular (Innistrad block).
Thinks aren't too bad yet, though. Fate Reforged brought Tasigur, which I guess is good for a small set. Back in theros block, we also had Anger of the Gods, Eidolon of the Great Revel, and Mana Confluence.

If i was looking at it from a standard players perspective, Id be a little butt hurt, rotation comes quicker and I need to update my deck more frequently to stay competitive, thereby dumping more $$ into the game. Good thing Im not a standard player.
From a Modern players perspective, im pretty happy about it. Means we can get those well deserved reprints quicker. But it also gives a smaller amount of time where these cards are readily available and cheap.
