Mark Rosewater: "I never said Snow could never return. I said it requires the right world and design." -November 07, 2015

So firstly, Snow Might Eventually come back :D !

And secondly, any ideas for where the right world might be? I feel like snow on Mirrodin would be funny, but not super flavorful, but maybe snow on Lorwyn?

Tarkir Ice Age? Ravnice? Innistrad? Just say some messed up shit happened on the plane with Planeswalkers and you've got yourself a storyline.

Oh my god... Snow on Lorwyn! Then I could make a Kithkin Snow deck! WOW, that would be the best thing ever! (Not even kidding, those two decks were my first decks!)

I can't wait for snow to come back.

Maybe I shouldn't of traded away my ice age cards.....

Snow on Lorwyn actually sounds really cool. Mix up the fairy-tale theme with Christmas... coming in December 2016? :)

Snow Vryn after a weather-altering artifact goes haywire could be flavorful too

1hman - Snow is a rider that can go on permanents like Snow-Covered Island, Boreal Shelf, and Adarkar Valkyrie

Would the snow mechanic work in a Viking/Norse Mythology-themed block?

mpeach1 says... #10

I never even realized Adarkar Valkyrie was a snow creature, nifty. I'm a fan of snow coming back though. I wasn't playing when it was a thing, but the snow cards were some of the first cards I handled older than the Innistrad block when I was first introduced to MTG, and I thought they were cool as hell. So it still has a sense of nostalgia for me. Let's bring em back.

Anything to drive down the price of snow basics.

so it it just has snow in the art?

November 8, 2015 6:34 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #13

There are cards that care about Snow permanents like Skred or cards that require mana from snow permanents like Rimescale Dragon.

DemonDragonJ says... #14

JWiley129, since you mentioned it, what about Rimescale Dragon is red? It should be blue, in my mind, with that name, that artwork, and that ability, it should definitely be blue, not red, in my mind.

I am sorry about being repetitive in my previous post; I typed too quickly and did not proofread it. I believe that that is clear evidence that this forum should allow users to edit their posts after those posts have been made.

Braid of Fire demonstrates that the most red card ever (and with a hint of black when mana burn was still a thing) can come from a snow set

Wouldn't it have been cool if we had a set called:

The Snows of Kawigama...

Ah, I can dream.

November 9, 2015 7:21 p.m.

Can I tangent and ask why Braid of Fire doesn't see play? Isn't it modern legal?

November 10, 2015 5:53 p.m.

Because the mana is added to your pool during your upkeep, which means that it won't be available during the main phase. At least I think that's why.

November 10, 2015 6:02 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #20

Now that mana burn has been removed from the game, how is Braid of Fire not ridiculously overpowered? I know that it takes time to accumulate mana from it, but, if a player survived for a sufficient duration, they could theoretically have unlimited mana, and practically for free.

November 10, 2015 10:19 p.m.

Yes, but the only thing you can use it on are instants, creatures with flash, or abilities that can be activated at instant speed. That doesn't amount to much in Modern that has a powerful effect.

November 10, 2015 10:48 p.m.

also needing to survive 4+ turns against Abrupt Decay is easier said than done

We're not going to get snow again until the World of Magic the Craft Gathering supplementary set in 2023. When we do get snow you'll get to watch Oloro square off against the Lich King.

In all seriousness though there are a only a few worlds that have been cold enough to be all snowy before. They're so old to...so old...old..old..old.
