Titan cycle in Journey?

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

Would anybody else be pleased to see a cycle of "Titan" Elemental Legendary Creatures? The thought just bolted through my head and I got really excited. It would seem weird to have all of these Gods on this plane and not much for them to protect it from. In Roman mythology, the Titans were always threatening the destruction of the world and it was the gods' job (primarily Zeus's) to ensure that never happened.

Or that's at least what I remember from Disney's "Hercules" (1997).

If I remember my mythology correctly, the Gods were actually the children of the Titans, and they all fought a bitter war over control of the Earth. The Gods won and exiled the Titans, but the Titans continued to try to overthrow them. Long story short, yes, it would have been very cool to have seen a cycle of Titans. They maybe even could've done something like the Shards, Gods were the allied shards and Titans were the enemy shards? Of course this would require 3 color Gods, but it could've been cool.

And Hera. Hera's Roman version, Juno, became much more important to Roman Mythology than Hera in Greek Mythology. And Neptune (Roman equivalent of the Greek Poseidon) became much more feared by the Romans.

It seems 'Titan' in MtG is just another name for Giant. There's Marshmist Titan and Titan of Eternal Fire in Theros Block, but they're just regular (i.e. nonlegendary) 'Creature - Giant'.

Maybe there could be something similar, but a different creature type or name-tag. I like the 'Legendary Creature - Elemental' idea.

They totally should do a cycle of titans, one for each color.

The blue one could be called Frost Titan , and it could have some kind of tap down ability. And maybe not hexproof but something close.

The black one should totally be called Grave Titan and spawn zombies, that's pretty simple.

For the white one I'm thinking something more unique. Since Helioid is the sun god I think the white one could be called Sun Titan , but for some reason I think he should interact with the graveyard somehow.

What would you guys do for the green and red ones?

I completely missed the connection I appeared to have made to the Core Set Titan Cycle from a few years ago. I'm definitely not pushing for a standardized 6-mana 6/6 do-something-format-warping.

I was suggesting a cycle for lore and story's sake more than for balancing mechanics and gameplay purposes.

Green loves ramp... so it should have an ability that is only played in combo decks! It should fetch combo pieces from your deck, but act like it doesn't really. We'll call it Primeval Titan .

Red? Eh. It burns things. I'm over it. Also Firebreathing was so awesome, we need it on at least 300 more cards. Inferno Titan .

Titan of Eternal Fire is Prometheus who was actually one of the Titans of greek lore same goes for the new card that represents Atlas he was also a Titan. Also some of the aspects of the Titans have already been added. Thought it would be cool if there was at least a card made for Cronus.

Joking aside I was a little disappointing that they didn't do a new, original Titan cycle. It was one of the things that I thought they just HAD to do going into theros. I mean... It's fucking Titans! TITANS!!! THE MOTHERS AND FATHERS OF THE GODS THEMSELVES! Sorry for geeking.

As a mythology buff I will admit that I wanted to see references to things I knew more than I wanted to see original and creative set design. Is that wrong of me? Probably.

I too was hoping for a titan cycle in this block. The titans are such a big part of Greek mythology that you would figure they would have a cycle of legendary titans in here.

They didn't include Titans on Theros because

  1. It would've interfered with the lore they had set up. The inhabitants of the mortal realm had always believed that the Gods created Theros, and if they were born from the Titans this obviously would've been false.

  2. They would've had to include another 5-10-15 Legendary Creatures, probably Enchantment Creatures, at either rare or (more likely) mythic rarity, which they would've needed to be replace current mythics. And BNG only have 10 mythics, a number JOU should match (and incidentally already all 10 mythics have been spoiled).
