Thank subrosian it is Ghostfire not Lightning Bolt as it was Ugin that made Ghostfire.

Well I find it interesting that in Mono U Tron he is actually castable on Turn 3.

Mono U Tron with Ugin sounds amazing...

I really like the fact that there's a second Dragon planeswalker! I always really enjoyed playing Bolas in casual. This will be a mythic I'll be hoping to pull.

Ooh ooh Ugin. Loving it

December 25, 2014 10:04 a.m.

I love the fact that someone said if his +2 was a +3 it'd be more playable. There is a reason Bolas is as high and mana intense as he is. He gets 5 starting loyalty and his +3 destroys a noncreature permanent. Now we have same CMC but in colorless mana, with SEVEN starting loyalty, and you want his lightning bolt ability to be a +3? With an ultimate of -10? Now you're just begging for broken cards, regardless of what format he becomes broken in.

He seems very balanced for a Dragon walker, and the fact he can exile all noncolorless permanents of 7 or less right off the bat is brutal. I think people should try testplaying these cards with less mana than they think or changing around abilities. I guarantee you that you'll be happy Wizards didn't do it your way (unless you like using broken cards)

December 25, 2014 10:08 a.m.

jr92_2000 says... #6

The -X ability is really what makes this card. For as expensive as 8 mana is, he's a board wipe that sticks around as your win con. The first two abilities seem really good in Control.

December 25, 2014 10:48 a.m.

FatherLiir says... #7

I want him for my Daretti EDH, and I think this will be a bomb in mono green standard decks and urzatron modern decks

December 25, 2014 10:56 a.m.

For the record, we should stop naming threads the EXACT name of cards.

This card is also an answer for ALL those decks out there that bitch about not having access to good board wipes. I mean, Mono red EDH and Mono Green now have amazing board wipe on top of O-Stone.

December 25, 2014 10:58 a.m.

hosper says... #9

In modern if you can get him out you are in damn good shape. His minus ability is a repeatable board wipe that in most matches will only need to be a -3 to wipe the board. So he comes down, makes a difference and sits at a stable 4 loyalty afterwards.

I like it for tron personally. While 8 mana is far more awkward then 7 since turn three tron still can't play him outright I feel good about this card and see him as at least a 1 of in RG tron.

December 25, 2014 11:04 a.m.

slovakattack says... #10

SQUEE!

His playability in EDH means that Imma straight-buy a set of foils; easy.

December 25, 2014 12:01 p.m.

kynrayn says... #11

For Standard he will go into a lot of sultai or R/G ramp decks, and most control decks he will fit in pretty well too, all they gotta do is drop a pearl lake ancient and BOOM.

December 25, 2014 12:03 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #12

Mono U Tron, t1 Tron piece, t2 Tron piece and Talisman of Dominance, t3 Ugin.

Oh boy...

Hell, even t4 Ugin is a pain in the ass.

December 25, 2014 12:15 p.m.

slovakattack says... #13

I'd rather just dump Karn Liberated in Tron, tho. He puts a lot more pressure on with is removal- although the two are comparable.

December 25, 2014 12:32 p.m.

8vomit says... #14

Did we not see this leaked months ago? like 2 months ago? Everyone called it fake. But here it is, all official and such. Our 2nd colorless planeswalker. The beans are cool.

December 25, 2014 12:44 p.m.

Drathen says... #15

I preferred the fake one, the wombo combo was stronk.

I guess he is still good.

December 25, 2014 12:56 p.m.

slovakattack says... #16

8vomit: Weirdly enough, the picture was the same. The abilities, however, were not.

I'm personally glad. The one that was 'leaked' 2 months ago, was just trash.

December 25, 2014 1:36 p.m.

8vomit says... #17

Chancesawtelle You will want to see

December 25, 2014 1:37 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #18

Karn, without a doubt, is still the go to for G/R Tron, Ugin is better suited for U Tron IMO. It does everything U Tron needs and more. (Including drawing into more countermagic when ulting.)

December 25, 2014 1:53 p.m.

Putrefy says... #19

Why does Wizards hate B/G Midrange so much :(

I foresee 3/3 split with Karn in Tron once he is released. He is completely ridiculous. Didn't read through all the comments yet, so I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet. But imagine Ugin and Painter's Servant in the same deck... T2 Servant, T4 Ugin, blow up everything. You have an Ugin left, opponent has nothing... Just gross... Maybe we will see a "new" form of Tron with him.

December 25, 2014 2:14 p.m.

slovakattack says... #20

Painter's Servant seems a bit jank to me, but who knows? Maybe it'll work out.

December 25, 2014 2:23 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #21

Now the real question is, if it was put in mono- tron, how mana Ugins would you want in the deck?

December 25, 2014 3:22 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #22

Femme_Fatale,

Were I to build it, probably 1-2.

With Thirst for Knowledge, Remand, Repeal, and the Scry from Condescend it shouldn't need to have many slots.

December 25, 2014 3:40 p.m.

slovakattack says... #23

If there are 3 slots for planeswalkers, I'd go 2 Ugin, 1 Karn.

December 25, 2014 3:44 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #24

slovakattack mono U Tron typically doesn't run walkers.

I could see it as a replacement for one O-stone and one Repeal since they kinda fill the same role.

It would be TERRIBLE against affinity or a mirror/mirror variant match so would have to be sided out in those cases.

December 25, 2014 3:52 p.m.

slovakattack says... #25

I thought they ran a few Karn, my b!

December 25, 2014 4:24 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #26

That's R/G Tron, they are similar but a different mindset is involved.

December 25, 2014 5:07 p.m.

Arvail says... #27

Disappointing. Seems a little weak. Hoping for a Bolas reprint. Grixis lives on!

December 25, 2014 5:27 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #28

So in other words, only 1-2 Ugins in only one deck archetype will be used in modern. Unless a new archetype is created. So the only real thing that might put Ugin up beyond its initial hype is if a top standard deck were to use it, and EDH, since I expect it to be like in every EDH build because of its card advantage and tempo gaining abilities.

And for some reason I can't help but imagine it being an alternate win condition/sideboard material for Scapeshift.

December 25, 2014 5:28 p.m.

Asher18 says... #29

OH MY F***CKING G-D IT UGIN IN ALL OF HIS LOVE AND GLORY I WANT HIS INSIDE OF ME I WANT TO MARRY HIM HE IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY I WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT HIM HE IS PERFECT IN ABZAN MIDRANGE OR IN ANY DECK IN STANDARD BECAUSE HE IS A MOTHERF**ING COLORLESS WALKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Femme_Fatale: What you mean to say:

"Dies to Karn, 0/10 would not play"

December 25, 2014 9:55 p.m.

Is this the actual card? This is what's going to be printed?

December 25, 2014 10:04 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #35

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon

All you have to do is look at the WotC article database.

December 25, 2014 10:06 p.m.

It's neat. Maybe as Ohthenoises suggested, a singleton in Tron. Definitely something to consider.

December 25, 2014 11:32 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #37

I think it's sick. Fucking sweet! If Garruk, Apex Predator is playable as a singleton I'm deff going to cram one of these into my Golgari standard deck.

December 25, 2014 11:49 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #38

what do u know fits perfectly :) only had to drop 1 card.

shinobigarth says... #39

He's really not that playable in standard but feel free to try

December 26, 2014 1:26 a.m.

-Fulcrum says... #40

I think he's viable in mono green devotion, but not much else.

December 26, 2014 1:30 a.m.

SpaderAce says... #41

Hey! That's what I'm playing right now! But I can see him as a finisher in a control with like 26 lands or so, since he can finish while keeping you alive by clearing the board

December 26, 2014 3:09 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #42

Well I can certainly say that he works in Jund Superfriends~

December 26, 2014 3:12 a.m.

JakeHarlow says... #43

Cool walker. Amazing for EDH. Karn substitute for Tron. Will go the way of Garruk, Apex Predator in Standard, since, despite the ramp available, he's too high on the curve. I imagine that he will see much experimentation, and some singleton play in control lists. I doubt he will find a firm home, unless something in FRF or Dragons puts him firmly on the playability map.

December 26, 2014 3:42 a.m.

MarduGras says... #44

I love how his ult is the opposite of Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker. Still not playing him.

December 26, 2014 7:14 a.m.

The wizard shall use devotion with the kithkin one know as the destiny of figures to turn 3 the powerful beast!?!?

December 26, 2014 9:39 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #46

Still not as backbreaking in mono U Tron as a Sundering Titan but really amazing nonetheless.

My wife (who plays U Tron) is absolutely SALIVATING about Ugin. This is going to be interesting.

December 26, 2014 10 a.m.

So I made a comment on this last night and it didn't seem to post. Now three times it's told me that people have commented on it, when they haven't. What's going on with this post?

Also, is this really the card that's going to be printed?

December 26, 2014 10:09 a.m.

Nevermind, I'm just loopey; I didn't realize the page numbers..

jr92_2000 says... #50

@shinobigarth He seems playable as a 1-2 of in a pure control deck. It's a boardwipe that sticks around as a wincon. That flexibility seems like it's enough to overcome the cost of entry.
