DrFunk27 -- dunno if underrated is the word for that card...
Sultai Ascendancy
, Howl of the Horde
, and Mind Swipe

It's a rare not a lot of people are speccing on ATM. It's the next cruel control bomb.

Drfunk I have read 3 articles on scg that have talked about how safe mauler is a good card.
September 19, 2014 11:58 p.m.
I've actually heard nothing but people talking about how good they think Butcher of the Horde is. Maybe it's not all price speculation, but that card definitely hasn't gone unnoticed.

I hapoen to think Ashcloud Phoenix is underrated right now. It comes down turn 4, can block a Stormbreath Dragon and without an exile effect two for ones your opponent. Yes it has downsides like 1 toughness and no haste, but I see potential.
September 20, 2014 12:07 a.m.
I agree with ash cloud but it gets stomped by polukranos. :/

Ashcloud Phoenix looks pretty good. Sagu Mauler is another one for sure
September 20, 2014 6:50 a.m.
Deflecting Palm . It can be one of the best SB cards!

Deflecting Palm imo is just rediculous.. id love to play it against something like Blightsteel Colossus or some other monster

@ Epochalyptik is there a way for me to move my own thread to a different forum or is that something only you can do?

Its_Johnny_Bravo - Emrakul, the Aeons Torn ? 15 dmg for 2 mana? Yes please!
September 20, 2014 8:17 a.m.
Its_Johnny_Bravo says... #17
@ NorthernRaven actually i was wondering about that, Deflecting Palm card says "source of your choice" so would it matter if the source had hexproof or protection (emrakul's protection from colored spells) since it is not a "target"?
September 20, 2014 9:54 a.m.
no it doesn't target, so it gets around things like "hexproof" and "protection from" abilities.
September 20, 2014 10 a.m.
Sagu Mauler isn't overrated.
Hell, its one of the top 5 most preordered rares right now

my vote is on Villainous Wealth ... not for standard, but for modern mana rampers

Jeskai Charm is very underrated in my opinion. Tuck, burn, or win the race.
Ashcloud Phoenix seems like it has a ton of potential in some match ups.
Rattleclaw Mystic doesn't get much praise but I think it's going to put in serious work.
Dig Through Time will be the precursor to closing out many games for control decks.
Wingmate Roc is close to Archangel of Thune in power level. Stormbreath might keep it from making a big impact though.

I don't know how much hype (or lack thereof) there is for it, but Treasure Cruise is an insane card in Legacy and pretty good in Modern.

i don't hate Ankle Shanker, but it feels like most do.
September 21, 2014 12:13 p.m.
Wingmate Roc .... If this cards drops some more, I'll buy some. They are really good!
September 21, 2014 12:45 p.m.
I completely agree about Mindswipe . Each time I cast it over the weekend, the look of shock and hate was absolutely priceless. Already have a few decks it will slide into without difficulty.
September 22, 2014 8:53 a.m.
Mindswipe is just better as a burn spell than it is a counterspell. So in that sense I guess it can be versatile, but Dissipate and Dissolve and even Cancel easily outclass it as a counterspell. It's like Syncopate in the sense that it's only good early in the game or if you catch your opponent tapped out, but it cost one more mana to cast. Late game you can hit your opponent for lots of damage because you can put lots of mana into it, but you need something to counter. If your opponent has is ahead on the board state and all they have to do is keep attacking over the next couple turns to kill you, then it doesn't matter if you can burn them for 8 with Mindswipe because you won't get to cast it. Good in limited where decks don't curve out perfectly and people are always casting things late game, not so much in constructed where your opponent isn't trying to get to 6 and 7 mana to drop down big overpriced things every game.

Taigam's Scheming is a fantastic common. Its a half of scry 5 and delve enabler.
Against a delve deck, Cranial Archive ain't half bad, especiall after you Tormod's Crypt someone.
Also, I absolutely adore Altar of the Brood with Akroan Horse and/or any card that can clone it.

Taigam's Scheming in Dredge? 1U for put the top 5 cards of your library into your yard seems somewhat strong.

Grim Haruspex (best flavor text) and Abzan Ascendancy won me a ton of games this weekend.
September 22, 2014 4:42 p.m.
I'm on board the Gurmag Swiftwing train. A starting hand with that and Molting Snakeskin usually spells trouble for any opponend that can't exile or bounce the thing.
September 22, 2014 5:59 p.m.
Its_Johnny_Bravo says... #33
Altar of the Brood is wow. Didn't catch that but would be awesome in any infinite creature or infinite cast combo
September 22, 2014 6:20 p.m.
GlistenerAgent says... #34
@Its_Johnny_Bravo When you make infinity creatures, do you need that card to win the game?
September 22, 2014 6:25 p.m.
SorcerersBone says... #35
There is an infinite combo to cast Ornithopter before rotation. Just nothing came up to make it worthwhile. I have a deck dedicated to a post rotation infinite mill on my profile, in addition to just milling with tokens and things that fetch.

Well, I haven't heard many opinions on the set in general but a few cards that I think are being overlooked include: Icefeather Aven , High Sentinels of Arashin , Grim Haruspex , Wingmate Roc , and finally Ashcloud Phoenix
September 22, 2014 8:26 p.m.
best new card in khans is ride over i love this card its not on the site yet so i couldn't put in my deck Mardu Horde on here but it is a perfect match for Goblin Rabblemaster cant wait till i get to bust it out on an opponent
September 22, 2014 8:58 p.m.
yeah my bad i keep calling it ride over for some reason but since im goin to use this card alot i should get it right Ride Down is my fav new card
September 22, 2014 10:14 p.m.
Toruk15 I like all of those cards as well. I'm still not sure how much of an impact morph will have on standard, so that may weaken Grim Haruspex and Icefeather Aven .
Ashcloud Phoenix was a much bigger nuisance than I expected it to be at prerelease. It dies easily, but he's very difficult to remove once the mana to flip him is in play.
September 22, 2014 11:28 p.m.
Ride Down is ridiculous. Treasure Cruise is awesome in the right deck. Flying Crane Technique won me many games at the prerelease.

@ GlistenerAgent no not really. I was thinking more along the lines of the Grimgrin, Corpse-Born + Gravecrawler + Rooftop Storm combo and others like it
September 23, 2014 8:18 a.m.
PreZchoICE1 says... #44
Grim Haruspex does not need morph to be effective, its just a nice lil bonus that it does have it.

Hardened Scales is definitely a good prospect to invest in I think. It's going to be amazing in EDH, and will probably see a big price spike somewhere along the line.

Yeah Sagu Mauler is going to wreck as a wincon for sultai, along with reaper of the wilds I think.

Another card I also love is War-Name Aspirant
. To go along with that, Monastery Swiftspear
is a necessary addition to any burn deck, and I think prowess in general can be good for a tempo deck where they'll magma jet your dude turn two with a swiftspear out and hit you for 2.

Dead Drop , this could be one of the most powerful pieces of control magic in standard right now

ive heard that Dead Drop , could be one of the most powerful pieces of control magic in standard right now.. haha its really a good card. I could see it being viable in most golgari reanimators
