Vryn Block?

Jace's UR is great, and the idea of the plane is interesting;

The world is locked in constant war between two factions, the Ampryn and the Trovian. They war over the system of mana on the plane - miners mine Mana, and it is sent through rings, mana by humans, to the cores, where powerful mages use the mana do do great things. The cores are constantly fought over by the two factions.

I feel like this is an interesting idea, but how would you represent it mechanically? On cards?

Well, we already had something similar with the Thran ages ago. Things like Worn Powerstone were a thing.

something like Contested War Zone comes to mind. The condition doesn't have to necessarily be dealing combat damage to switch the controller though. It could be reaching other conditions, like having your opponent have more cards in their graveyard than you do.

I feel like that with a mechanical theme like this, Vryn would be better set in a multiplayer set, like Conspiracy.

But the two faction's mechanics? And the mage rings? Lots of mana rocks won't do much in standard/modern.

@scopesightzx

Ah that sounds good. I commented previously not in response to you.

And also, to be more specific, I was thinking about something to mimic...

The Miners

The mans streams (probably mana rocks like TheDevicer suggested)

One mechanic for each faction

Something to represent the mages

Something to represent the "untouched peace" type thing.

And the mage rings/cores/mines themselves, which would be what scopesightzx suggested.

The rings themselves could be an artifact/land. What it would do exactly is up for debate, but I personally say mana ramping. Prehaps the more rings you have, the greater the total mana added to your pool. Either that, or having a certain amount of rings causes the static boost to change, ala the Urza lands. The miners could be creature spells that specialize in mana ramping. As for faction-related abilities, I feel that there isn't enough information in the UR to create something at the moment. We need more backstory for that. The ongoing war can be represented through cards that can be played at the beginning of the game, like the leylines, giving the player the feeling that they are getting involved in an ongoing conflict. Legendary creatures in the set can be the commanders of both sides as well as other high ranking officials, maybe other arbiters even (Alahoweverhisnameisspelled cannot be used for obvious reasons). As for planeswalkers, Jace is an obvious choice. The story can state that more of his memories returned and now he's investigating Vryn for clues to his past. Another possible contender is Vraska, who either decided to follow Jace to Vryn or discovered that he was born there while traveling the planes. Other than that, I have nothing.
