What are the chances of Jace, Memory Adept being reprinted in M15?

I want to know if I should trade him off or not.
I would be surprised if they reprint him again. But with RTR rotating, Jace, Architect of Thought will be leaving standard too. Wouldn't surprise me if they print a new blue walker, possibly even a new Jace, but I doubt they'll just keep reprinting Memory Adept.

I doubt they will take Jace out the core set, as he has become the poster child of the game. they will probably introduce a new (or older version?) of him. but it is possible to reprint Tamiyo, the Moon Sage or even a new crazy walker. but my money is on a different version of Jace, whether it's Jace Beleren , a brand new version, or even Jace, Architect of Thought . They did so with both Sorin Markov and Gideon Jura in both Rise of the Eldrazi and M12.

I'm honestly sick of jace. He's had more versions than any other walker. We get it he's well traveled but give it a rest.
I want a new blue walker.
Okay end rant. Apologies. JtMS pisses me off is all.

Moved to SRS because this is more about set speculation than value.

@Bellock86: Jace is kind of the poster figure for Magic now. I do strongly agree that it's time to see some variation in the blue walkers, but I also like the idea of Jace being an icon of the past and current MTG storyline.
The problem is that Jace, despite being one of the most significant figures in the multiverse, feels comparatively underdeveloped as a character and walker. For example, we've seen Elspeth grow from Alara to Mirrodin to Theros. We've seen Sorin, Liliana, and Garruk grow. Jace has been basically the same: "Hi. I'm blue. I like mill and long walks on the beach games of control."

@Epochalyptik: lol that sums up my feelings on him perfectly. He feels so generic. I wish they could kill him off and replace him with Urza.

sylvannos, if you thought urza's block was broken wait till you see jace's block :P
April 5, 2014 11:47 p.m.
Unfortunately sylvannos, Urza's kindof sortof dead. He's a disembodied head in the Un-multiverse though!

@Epochalyptik ~ I do see your point with jace. Maybe my knee-jerk reaction is a little unfair. You summed up what I was thinking perfectly. "Hi I'm blue and I wanna make you bored out of your skull."
He is EXTREMELY underdeveloped as a character. I mean there have been multiple versions of him and yet all I can say is that he likes to be in control (double meaning intentional. Bad joke not so much)
I just feel like he could be so much more. Not another Jace, the Mind Sculptor obviously (oh god I would rage quit magic forever) but something better than mill and card draw. I mean Jace, Architect of Thought was a good attempt and he is a good card but....I just can't put words to it.
April 6, 2014 12:07 a.m.
Also Venser, the Sojourner was cool. They killed him off. (Is know he was dual color)
Tamiyo, the Moon Sage is alright but very niche (also not standard anymore)
And the rest are either lousy dual color like Ral Zarek (hate me if you want but I see a missed opportunity there) or mono color anyway with their own themes or trends
I'm really stoked for the new ajani that has been rumored. I just hope he's done right.
But when it comes to jace I just feel like it's tired and they either need to let him branch out (dual color maybe?) and let him reinvent himself or change it up with a new blue guy.
Just my opinions of course. I welcome a counter argument or alternate perspectives

Blue-green jace would be dope. He could have some kind of meeting with kruphix or whatever, just make it happen! Kiora was a pretty disappointing walker to be the first for g/u :c
April 6, 2014 12:25 a.m.
thataddkid - I respectfully disagree. Kiora is a perfect G/U planeswalker. She ramps, she draws cards, she drops huge fattys. That's EXACTLY what G/U decks try to do.
April 6, 2014 12:33 a.m.
I have to disagree about Kiora, the Crashing Wave @ thataddkid.
I will vehemently defend kiora. I use her in a bug EDH deck and I had a Doubling Season out when I cast her. Insta card draw and land dump. Her ult is not super useful in EDH but double 9/9 krakens every turn is nothing to laugh at. Even in a format that doesn't love beaters unless they are your commander.
I will concede that she is not super awesome in current standard meta but I have a feeling when RTR block rotates that might change.
April 6, 2014 12:33 a.m.
Ninja'd by JWiley129. I couldnt agree more about her abilities. She screams "I'M SIMIC" with all of her abilities.
April 6, 2014 12:38 a.m.
You said a bit more than I did though, Bellock86. Let's call it even.
I also use Kiora in my Simic deck with Vorel of the Hull Clade at the helm. And trust me, she's good.

I think we will end up with a brand new Jace personally.

@Bellock86: I'll use a term that I normally use for Americanized restaurants. It's comfortably exotic. Jace, Architect of Thought experiments with some variation. Not straight draw, no mill, and a change in approach to control. But it's safe. It doesn't really take risks. It's a tablespoon of change in a pot of the same old mix.
Part of me feels like Jace will never really change. WOTC may be attached to the comfort of a stable icon, and it might look to other planeswalkers to bring the change. If this is actually the case, I feel like the dev team is falling short of their potential.
April 6, 2014 12:53 a.m.
Epochalyptik: to your point, Maro has said that he would like R&D to explore Jace's ability to cast Illusions. If you look at the duel decks Jace has been in, many of the creatures are Illusions and are in his repertoire. But I feel like giving repeatable token generation to blue is a bit OP.

@JWiley129: It'd be interesting, but I don't know how they'd work it out. Jace is, in general, in control of wind, water, and illusions (typical blue stuff). Illusions would potentially offer some balance if they reintroduced sac-on-target effects, but that would be so much text to stick on a loyalty ability.
We'll have to wait and see. They may have written themselves into a corner with Jace, and I honestly wouldn't mind them just producing other blue walkers for a while.

If jace popped out a legendary 3/3 illusion that sac's on target I'd call it fair. But only if it was G/U.
April 6, 2014 1:26 a.m.
thataddkid - Sorry, but Jace is never going to be G/U. I can see W/U or U/B, but he'll never show up as U/R or G/U. And like I said, I don't think R&D would let a mono-blue Jace poop out tokens. It'll be interesting to see what the next Jace will look like.
April 6, 2014 2:30 a.m.
Couldnt Jaces ability be to search your library for an illusion with cmc... say 2 or 3 and let you put it in your hand for a +1 or on the battelfield for lets say -2?
April 6, 2014 4:25 a.m.
Epochalyptik says... #29
@Jirayamo: I won't say it's impossible, but it's improbable. Searching for creatures is not a blue effect. Blue tutors instants, sorceries, and artifacts. Also, tutor effects are not + abilities.

talke bout walkers what happend to that BU actifact dude tezerat???
April 6, 2014 6:26 a.m.
@Epochalyptik ~ in regards to page 2 post #1 ~ yes that is exactly how I feel.
@JWiley129 ~ even it is. Lol. Glad I'm not the only one that is a fan of kiora. I feel like she's mega underrated as a walker.
April 6, 2014 10:33 a.m.
@Sagi007 ~ Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas is way too artifact centric for the current standard. I also vaguely remember him dying or something.

Jace's very likely to be in M15 in some form since Uncharted Realms established he left Ravnica to look for Garruk:

April 6, 2014 3:48 p.m.
dual-color Jace? let's explore the options:
Blue-Black: unlikely, since they already turned Garruk to the dark side. the Xenagos story in Theros also initially started with MaRo's(?) idea of a dark Jace
Blue-Red: counter-burn? plausible, but WotC will be displacing Ral Zarek. also, does it mean he's making alliances with Chandra?
Blue-Green: also unlikely, since they just released Kiora
Blue-White: the only possible one I can imagine. Also, did you hear that? that was the collective groan of all Esper haters the world over -_-
April 6, 2014 10:12 p.m.
Lol@ cr14mson. That last line was awesome. I was merely trying to ellaborate that jace "I'm blue and draw cards and shit" was getting old.

Honestly I think we'll have a new Jace with the events that happened at the end of the Ravnica Block and what will happen with the next block. Jace Belern would be the most likely reprint if there was one. I feel a new one is actually in order. I can't see Tamiyo returning nor a new blue planeswalker - it just wouldn't make sense lore wise.
That said Core sets don't follow the lore most the time but given the Veil Cursed Garruk it looks like the next core set will be a lore focused core.
Slycne says... #2
It would be the 4th time in a row if it was reprinted. 3 core sets in a row is already more than any other planeswalker, so my gut leans towards probably not.
