What do you think of this guy?

Chasm Skulker-2U
whenever you draw a card, put a +1/+1 counter on Chasm Skulker
when Chasm Skulker dies, put X 1/1 blue squid creature tokens with islandwalk into play, where X is the number of +1/+1 counters on Chasm Skulker
1/1

I actually like him a lot. he has the potential to grow large, and provides a back up in case he gets removed.

In Standard I doubt it. He's going to be a limited bomb and he's going directly into my Vorel of the Hull Clade Commander deck for the sheer joy of making a butt-ton of Islandwalking Squids.

I have the exact same line of thought as JWiley. Not too great in Standard, going straight into Vorel.

June 23, 2014 5:07 p.m.

Isn't he a squid horror? I like it for creature type alone

June 23, 2014 5:08 p.m.

It may be an interesting SB option in control mirror games. Note that I said interesting, not necessarily viable.

I need a threat for mono blue control in standard post-rot, and I think this is going to be it. It's super effective when paired with Dictate of Kruphix , and the survivability of it makes it just as appealing as Stormtide Leviathan . But this one comes down 6 turns earlier (accounting for a missed land drop, of course).

I think it'll see play in "cute", cheap decks in Legacy. Any deck that runs this guy and Brainstorm is gonna have a good time.

They might not win terribly many matches against "real" Legacy decks, but they'll have a damn good time in the process.

NobodyPicksBulbasaur exactly my thoughts.. Brainstorm is what makes this guy casual playable :)

June 23, 2014 5:24 p.m.

Casual with brainstorm+this actually sounds really fun

He may be decent in a Nekusar EDH build... (thinking of my own here). setting off a wheel effect or Jace's Archivist every turn makes him pretty huge... and if the opponent is playing blue, well, yeah. Although he's easily removed and his squids just scream "board wipe now!"

Casual Nekusar build*

Teferi's Puzzle Box makes this huge in EDH :)

Too bad it doesn't play nice with Whelming Wave . Flavor fail.

Rasta_Viking29 - To be fair, it isn't a Giant Squid.

ould be nice with Opposition

DaggerV says... #16

Would it have been more playable if it has costed 1u instead of 2u?

June 23, 2014 7:35 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #17

DaggerV - I'd say so. then you could curve out with Skulker into Dictate of Kruphix and have a 4/4 on Turn 4.

Anything is more playable the less it costs.

chasm skulker + Notion Thief + Whispering Madness .

Heheh. Hahaha. HAHAHAHAHA. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I like trying to come up with reason to play Whelming Wave . Would have been cool synergy.

I'm still going to try to play him. My control deck draws an absurd amount of cards. Could be good as a finisher or stall tactic.

Pretty solid limited bomb. I would play him. Works great as a beater in a draw-heavy UR burn control setup...also has a bit of Voice of Resurgence flavor in that he causes big trouble when he dies. White can probably exile him, but black/red will have quite the conundrum.

I will be maindecking this guy in RUG (depending on land in the next block).I love playing card advantage beat down decks and a creature that gets mega huge with all that advantage seems good. This guy + Purphoros is all kinds of fun. They let him stick and he beats down, if they kill it - Purphoros burns face.

Then you have Zameck Guildmage that becomes a 2mana repeatable draw; admittedly, only in standard for a short period of time and I sold mine before rotation thinking I wouldn't need them anymore.

Not to mention Bred for the Hunt and Bident of Thassa work brilliantly. Sadly, Kalonian Hydra will also be rotating out soon.

what about using him, with another blue card from m15

"military intelligence" - 1UEnchantmentWhenever you attack with two or more creatures, draw a card

kind of going turn 1-Hypnotic Siren , turn 2- military intelligence, turn3- chasm skulker, turn4- Master of Waves at 4 devotion. then you're attacking with more than two a turn forever to draw into all your removal spells Turn to Frog is in m15. the deck could splash black or white for some removal spells. also works well with Bident of Thassa for a 4-drop.

June 24, 2014 11:04 a.m.

I think he has some serious potential. Maybe not the best card in the world, but i like him

June 24, 2014 5:53 p.m.

Ultimaodin says... #25

I had not heard of this Military intelligence card, sounds like a card I want. I'll already be rocking Thassa's Bident.

Dictate of Kruphix , Notion Thief , Master of the Feast . This guy is gonna fill a gap that -that- U/B deck has been sorely missing for quite some time. Him, and that new 5 drop Demon.

dan8080 says... #27

I like this guy I think he's funny in a blue black draw deck. Then again I also like indulgent tormenter (new demon guy) comboing with him on turn 6 and Font of Fortunes with him in general.

almerican says... #28

Before I was think a Mono-U Control shell for him, but now I am thinking I may try him in the Horizon Chimera +Fathom Mage +Archangel of Thune combo.

It could be fun with all the synergies esp. with Courser of Kruphix added in
