Exactly what the title says. What do you think ( or hope) will replace annihilator in Battle for Zendikar?

kanofudo says... #2

something definitely will. Wizards has said they'd never print a card with annihilator again.

March 8, 2015 2:44 p.m.

Yeah, I know. It makes sense though. Annihilator was waaaay too good.

March 8, 2015 2:45 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #4

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

On topic, it will still probably have something to do with sacrificing, since that's what the Eldrazi are all about. But otherwise, see the picture above.

CharlesMandore says... #5

I suppose we'll have to find out. I don't think it'll be your "banishing" concept. That just isn't good enough.

March 8, 2015 2:47 p.m.

Rocknj06 says... #6

Probably something that's close to Annihilator but with a damage clause, like "When this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player sacs (x) permanent(s)

March 8, 2015 2:47 p.m.

Maybe both players will have go sacrifice?

March 8, 2015 2:57 p.m.

square711 says... #8

I think something like "that player sacs a permanent for each X damage dealt this way" is more likely.

Or "whenever this creature attacks and is unblocked" + all Eldrazi lose flying and gain shroud.

Or "whenever this creature is blocked by X or more creatures, the defending player sacrifices a permanent".

If you think all these abilities suck, well, that's my point. I'm pretty sure whatever replaces Annihilator will be terrible.

March 8, 2015 2:58 p.m.

Seriously, 2 sets before we even get there. slow down. we will find out at the end of September

March 8, 2015 3:09 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #10

Or maybe a new ability word that is basically Annihilator 1, so that it can't escalate. or maybe something like Grimgrin, Corpse-Born's ability.

March 8, 2015 3:10 p.m.

pookypuppy6 says... #11

Exterminator? Obliterator? Incinerator? Delacerator even?

March 8, 2015 3:32 p.m.

It will be Mega-Annihilator.

Mega-Annihilator X (Whenever this creature attacks, defending player sacrifices X permanents. Then put X +1/+1 counters on that creature for each permanent sacrificed this way.)

Mega-Landfall is going to be sick.

March 8, 2015 3:38 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #13

Fortunately, you don't have to hope annihilator will be replaced. WotC has confirmed they aren't doing that again.

March 8, 2015 4 p.m.

Here's what I think will replace it:

Cat Throw- When this creature attacks throw a cat at your opponent. This creature gets +x/+X where X is the number of scratches the cat inflicted on your opponent.

March 8, 2015 8:37 p.m.

CanadianShinobi Hahaha

I think it will be something like "When this creature attacks, search target player's library for X cards and exile them". Or maybe only when it deals damage.

March 8, 2015 8:43 p.m.

Kroto says... #16

,,When this creature attacks exile all Siege Rhinos from all decks and sideboards"

March 9, 2015 6:05 p.m.

God these people that suddenly think that Rhinos are the best creature in magic.

GET GOYFS MAN!!!

March 9, 2015 6:09 p.m.

square711 says... #18

Kroto: Wizards made it clear that the new ability will be worse than Annihilator. No way they're gonna replace it with something even MORE powerful.

I mean, what's next, "target player sacrifices a Lhurgoyf with mana cost 2"? Come on.

March 9, 2015 6:11 p.m.

square711 Hahaha the entire rational MTG world wishes!

March 9, 2015 6:12 p.m.

Meh, it all dies to removal. Vendetta and Devour in Shadow for days.

March 9, 2015 6:12 p.m.

Kroto says... #21

Ok then we just change the effect to ,,All ETB effects Siege Rhino has get countered"

March 9, 2015 6:18 p.m.

Named_Tawyny says... #22

@FAMOUSWATERMELON, I think you may have come up with an ability even more broken than annihilator. Kudos.

March 9, 2015 8:26 p.m.

Its better then a board wipe.

March 9, 2015 8:33 p.m.

Schuesseled says... #24

Annihilator x (Mk2) - Whenever your opponent casts a spell they sacrifice x permanents.

March 10, 2015 5:17 a.m.

Schuesseled says... #25

Its broken, but at least you can chump block till you draw Doom Blade

March 10, 2015 5:20 a.m.

Schuesseled Welp, that's broken... And Emrukul gives the middle finger to Doom Blade.

March 10, 2015 7:46 a.m.

pookypuppy6 says... #27

Does Emrakul even have fingers? I'm not sure about how he can define what is his "middle" tendril so can "flip the spaghetti" at removal.

March 10, 2015 8:03 a.m.

CuteSnail says... #28

I think Emrukul's equivalent to the middle finger is eating your home plane. And isn't emrukul female?

March 10, 2015 11:40 a.m.

-x-Juuzou-x-x- So so true my friend.

March 10, 2015 3:41 p.m.

jandrobard says... #30

I hope Wizards is screwing with us and just decides to use annihilator again. It was oppressive, sure, but it was so much fun when you weren't on the receiving end!

March 10, 2015 8:41 p.m.

jandrobard Hahaha true, but not for the receiving end.

March 10, 2015 8:49 p.m.

I may be one of like three people (being generous here) who actually wants this but here me out, ok? This is what they should do for Zendikar part 2-

They need to have the featured mechanics be banding and rampage for the first set. It'd be freaking awesome. Do like white and blue with banding critters, green and red have rampage, and black critters get death touch (I require another Royal Assassin reprint too btw, needs some good art please).

Rampage is like the big "I hate banding" mechanic, so you'll love it probably love it because most people hate banding. If we do a new Lure type effect that gives trample too, pop it on the rampage fatty? It'd be freaking awesome. Major protect the queen style of play.

On the banding side of it- this is for the other hateful people out there. Banding is so much fun, it has the potential to completely jack up combat math and frustrate the ever loving crap out of people. Stifle's going to need a reprint to, to really really piss people off. Stifle your rampage trigger? Swell!

So yeah, that's my vote. You can hate on it, that's fine. You're wrong but that's fine

InDirectX says... #33

We already know what's after annihilator: Anowon, the Ruin Sage.

Up with the creature type devotion sacrificers!

April 10, 2015 9 a.m.

Maybe instead of permanents, they sacrifice turns!

either that, or "sacrifice X goyfs, rhinos, or storm crows"

both are incredibly broken, which one is more broken I'm not sure. Maybe the second one?

April 10, 2015 9:44 a.m.

InDirectX says... #35

"Target player sacrifices all imps and badgers"

April 10, 2015 9:46 a.m.

Didgeridooda says... #36

I think it will be a damage trigger rather then an attack one.

April 10, 2015 10:54 a.m.

DBCooper says... #37

Annihilator V2 - 'whenever this creatures attacks, target opponent sacrifices one permanent at random.

April 11, 2015 3:35 p.m.

Probably something like:

Obliterator - Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player sacrifices a creature(Permanent?).

I'd bet that it's going to be a lot less catastrophic and a lot more dissapointing than Annihilator.

April 11, 2015 7:32 p.m.

nickiru says... #39

probably Phyrexian Obliterator status: if he takes x damage the owner of the source loses x permanents. I like that critter xD pseudo eldrazi for 4 mana

April 11, 2015 8:46 p.m.

uh, no. Plz dont

I crie evrytiem

April 11, 2015 9:10 p.m.

Egann says... #41

@DBCooper: Dear god do I hope you're right. It wouldn't completely spoil the Eldrazi flavor and wouldn't be so broke.

I don't like the dealing damage trigger, in part because that's the DRAGON trigger and we're in the Dragon's bit of the story right now. I know they didn't really take advantage of that for this set, but classic MTG dragons like Balefire Dragon and Hellkite Tyrant have deal damage to player triggers. Even if it's not an identical deal damage trigger, it will still feel samey.

April 13, 2015 10:46 p.m.

LukenMark says... #42

Obliterate - Whenever eldrazi enters the battlefield, remove your opponent's deck. then buy him/her a fat pack and call it a good day.

April 14, 2015 10:29 p.m.

DBCooper says... #43

I'd play against that all day.

April 14, 2015 10:34 p.m.

hahnx201 says... #44

Extinguisher #: When your Eldrazi creature attacks, defending player sacrifices # of nonland permanents. You discard # cards and lose # life.

I understand that the trade off of spamming your opponents is pretty much nil, but the nonland limitation + the discard would increase the opponent's chance to recover.

April 20, 2015 9:29 p.m.

Depeletion x- When ~ attacks put a ~~~~ counter on X target lands defending player controls, they become "Barry's Lands" as long as they have a ~~~ counter on them

Alternatively they become "Barry's Lands" until end of turn or until your next turn

The teaser and hearsay that Wizards figured out how to make "Barry's Land" IE Basics for colorless mana, a thing has me thinking neo-annihilator will be themed around turning opponents' lands into these colorless basics to fit with the flavor of the Eldrazi sucking the mana out of the plane itself.

April 21, 2015 6:29 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #46

I'm pumped for Barry's lands.

April 21, 2015 6:35 p.m.

InDirectX says... #47

Commander of the Group

Exile any number of target Badgers, Imps, Lhurgoyfs, Rhinos, and lands with type Barry from the battlefield.
