When Will Edgar Markov Appear in the Game?

Ever since Edgar Markov was first mentioned during the original Innistrad block, I have been awaiting his appearance in the game. Given that he is one of the progenitors of vampires on Innistrad, he must be very powerful, indeed, so there is no reason for him to not appear in the game, at some point.

He was mentioned briefly in last week's story, but his current whereabouts and fate have never been explicitly stated, so I am still hoping for him to appear at some point in this block, because there is no guarantee that there shall be a third Innistrad block.

What does everyone else say about this? When will Edgar Markov appear in the game?

He's on the Moon. Powerful Vampiric influence from Vampire astronaut Edgar Markov drove Avacyn mad. Why else would it seem like a good idea to cull the population that sustains you?

Something is going to have to happen where either:

  • A) Something seriously threatens the existence of the vampire race that Sorin can't handle.

  • B) Sorin discovers something supremely evil about the Genesis of the vampire race and his father, so he has to end it.

Those are my guesses. I don't think we'll see him any time soon though. Maybe not until the next time the Innistrad story rotates back in.

I could see them introducing him in a commander or supplemental product, like they did with Nahiri first. Then on a probably second return to Innistrad, hey would make his second appearance.

Well, on your first point, the threat to the vampires was that they were eating too quickly to sustain their food source (the humans). He fixed that with Avacyn, so now there's likely to be some backlash if he actually does kill her.

On the second point, for one, Edgar Markov was Sorin's grandfather. For two, they killed an angel and drank her blood to become vampires. Is that not evil? They then forced Sorin to do it, even though it was a painful and traumatic enough process that Sorin's spark ignited because of it.

I doubt we'll ever see an Edgar Markov card.

I feel like Edgar Markov is up there with Urza and a few other characters who are better left as lore.

What about Ludevic? He has been mentioned frequently in flavor text and stories, but has not yet actually appeared, so might he eventually make an appearance in this block, as well?

You know, I'd actually be cool with Ludevic appearing. Probably make Zombie Horror tokens or something. Not quite sure which colors, but certainly Blue.

If he does show up, it won't be in EDM. We already have Gisa, Ludevic, and the thing messing with Innistrad (assuming it ins't Emrakul) at a minimum for legendaries that people want more than Edgar. There's also Raven Man and an actually good U/B zombie that would probably also be made before granddaddy Markov. The next Commander series will probably be Allied colors, so he could be B/R in there.

genericaura, what about Geralf? I highly doubt that one of the two siblings would appear without the other.

DemonDragonJ I didn't mention Geralf because I was listing all the legendaries that had to be black. Geralf could be printed as either u or u/b. But you're right, he's another theoretical black card that's begging to be printed.

genericaura, I believe that Ludevic will definitely be blue, whether it be mono-blue or black/blue, since many of the cards that reference him are blue. Gisa and Geralf are likely to remain monocolored.
