Ainok Bond-Kin + Mer-Ek Nightblade

quesobueno123 says... #2

No idea, solid synergy though.

September 20, 2014 9:50 a.m.

TheRedDude says... #3

still, no one but me has mentioned that two cards could potentially give all/most of your stuff one of the most OP keyword combinations in the game?

September 20, 2014 9:52 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #4

Dies to Supreme Verdict ... I mean End Hostilities .

September 20, 2014 9:53 a.m.

Nigeltastic says... #5

I mean I noticed it when it was on Mythic Spoiler... It's not like it's something magical and unseen. Abzan = Slivers, but with +1/+1 counters, and Slivers have combo'd for that pair of keywords too.

September 20, 2014 9:54 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #6

It's noticeable... The real question is whether or not you'll be able to pull it off.

September 20, 2014 10 a.m.

TheRedDude says... #7

Also, this has a good chance of appearing in limited

September 20, 2014 10 a.m.

TheRedDude says... #8

pull it off t4: T1 forest Elvish Mystic T2 plains Ainok Bond-Kin T3 swamp Mer-Ek Nightblade T4 Abzan Ascendancy

September 20, 2014 10:05 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #9

But by t4 it's more than likely the opponent will have at least some removal

September 20, 2014 10:18 a.m.

Servo_Token says... #10

Seems like you can be doing... anything else and its better.

September 20, 2014 10:19 a.m.

TheRedDude says... #11

which is better the combo or anythhing else?

September 20, 2014 10:35 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #12

Most likely anything else, because remove the Mer-Ek Nightblade and the interaction is gone.

September 20, 2014 10:38 a.m.

TheRedDude says... #13

but you can keep some lands untapped for a Gods Willing

September 20, 2014 10:41 a.m.

abenz419 says... #14

even if you take out Mer-Ek Nightblade out of his little turn 4 scenario, he's left with a 2/2 first striking mystic and a 3/x first striker. That's not a bad thing, especially when the 3/2 has potential to get bigger. There is removal, but it's not like there is tons of things like Doom Blade going around. Removal, just like everything else, has slowed down considerably.

APPLE01DOJ says... #15

Glissa, the Traitor is a thing and so is Master of Cruelties both these are awesome from a flavor stand point but not very competitive. The combination is good in theory, not so good in practice. U would also want Setessan Tactics with your little set up.

September 20, 2014 10:45 a.m.

TheRedDude says... #16

yes, but do they have the potentional to turn EVERYTHING into one?

September 20, 2014 10:55 a.m.

Rob_the_Taavi says... #17

I think they might have been distracted by the combination of keywords on this guy----Ankle Shanker , which makes for a pretty decent follow up after your Iroas, God of Victory hit the field.

JWiley129 says... #18

I feel like you're more Troll than Man at this point. Yes there's synergy, but it's pretty obvious if you read the cards. It's nothing to write home about though, carry on and thanks for all the fish.

September 20, 2014 11:19 a.m.

TheRedDude says... #19

i understand, but im still building the deck

September 20, 2014 11:24 a.m.

Honestly, it isn't viable in standard. maybe decent for the kitchen table, but that's about it. This is a format where removal is heavy and important, and such a fragile combo is really just bad. I am sure people have seen the combo, but it isn't worth playing outside of limited

September 20, 2014 12:03 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #21

the entire reason i mentioned this was for limited purposes...

September 20, 2014 12:06 p.m.

well you should clarify that next time. You mentioned both Elvish Mystic and Gods Willing in the comments, which are not available in limited. that is why I thought you weren't referring to limited

September 20, 2014 12:11 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #23

im not a complete idiot, so thought people would recognize my intents

September 20, 2014 12:15 p.m.

You clearly give examples that are only possible in Standard. Very confusing.

While this interaction is strong, it is also fragile and will get you blown out if you lean on it to much.

September 20, 2014 12:29 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #25

it isnt a main thing, each can be quite potent on their own

September 20, 2014 12:32 p.m.

Again, only if we are talking limited. And I Still think there are stronger, more reliable things to be doing in limited.

September 20, 2014 12:58 p.m.

cian114 says... #27

Elvish Mystic in KTK limited, wat?

September 20, 2014 1:45 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #28

Have you no ability to understand what i am saying?

September 20, 2014 1:46 p.m.

cian114 says... #29

They're saying it's not the best you can do with your mana in limited. Outlast wants you to commit your mana to the creatures on your board, instead of adding to it, so it's not always the best...

September 20, 2014 1:48 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #30

No cian114... ok i officially give up on trying to explain this to you. if i say it you will think its for legacy mill or whatever for no apparent reason

September 20, 2014 1:48 p.m.

cian114 says... #31

I'm playing abzan tonight. I want this synergy in my sealed deck, too. BUT I admit that there are better things to do with my mana aside from using outlast. It's slow and clunky.

September 20, 2014 1:51 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #32

thanks for the unrelated comment

September 20, 2014 1:52 p.m.

cian114 says... #33

Aren't we talking about Abzan cars?

September 20, 2014 1:54 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #34

but seriously if you didnt want to use outlast dont play abzan. Abzan is all about the long game, so pumpng your creatures and having some outlast "Slivers" is the way to go

September 20, 2014 1:54 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #35

Also, stop posting comments right before i post mine. LOL

September 20, 2014 1:55 p.m.

cian114 says... #36

Yeah, but outlast is good if you invest in your creatures first. Your cool Deathtouch, Firststriker will be waiting another turn before it can attack, while your you opponent blows you out with his creatures.

Ooh, I can already imagine the headaches caused by Abzan mirror match...

September 20, 2014 1:58 p.m.

guessling says... #37

I think Outlast will be fun to try out as a synergy with other +1/+1 counter things. I am not saying it would be for competitive EDH or anything, but it might be fun.

I agree with the Slivers analogy - that was my first thought as well (or maybe my second one after thinking about my Mikaeus deck that has needed something for a while now).

September 20, 2014 1:59 p.m.

cian114 says... #38

guessling Ghave Outlast deck? lol

September 20, 2014 2:01 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #39

the strategy of abzan is to do this little by little. Outlast is good as long as you leave something open to block with. Also, High Sentinels of Arashin pumps all your stuff without tapping them.

September 20, 2014 2:01 p.m.

TheRedDude says... #40

i told you to stop doing that

September 20, 2014 2:02 p.m.

cian114 says... #41

It costs a lot of mana though...

September 20, 2014 2:02 p.m.

00xtremeninja says... #42

ran this last night as I played Abzan, was........ok.........Outlast drags games on if you can execute it right, but it does make for some incredibly frustrating situations for your opponents to get into. the deathtouch and first strike is nice, but often times you felt like it was a little late in the game getting it to work as an offensive rather than defensive.

September 20, 2014 2:12 p.m.

Silvergaze says... #43

The simple fact is that if you're building an Outlast deck, they're both decent options. And while yes, your opponent will probably have some flavor of removal, that doesn't mean they're bad cards to include in a deck. Saying the combo is bad because it can be stopped is faulty logic. It's like the guy who said Mutavault isn't worth playing because it dies to Eye Gouge .

September 20, 2014 3:38 p.m.

capriom85 says... #44

For Limited, bombtastic. For Standard and beyond, far too slow. Cool synergy, though.

September 20, 2014 4:09 p.m.

guessling says... #45

@cian114

Yeah - I was considering going with Ghave, Guru of Spores as the general and keeping the best of the monowhite and artifact stuff (and keeping Mikaeus, the Lunarch as a card in the deck instead of the general) - I don't know if that would be too degenerate, though ... but boy would it be fun to play with.

September 20, 2014 4:17 p.m.

cian114 says... #46

guessling think of it as a voltron or enchantress deck.

Duel Deck : Abzan vs Sliver.

September 20, 2014 10:21 p.m.

phc says... #50

I'm planning on doing a EDH deck with Zurgo Helmsmasher as the commander. Rather than going goblin tribal/ voltron as I planned, outlast and +1/+1 counters might be fun.
