Will the the Khans of Tarkir Wedge Names Actually stick?

As everyone probably already knows, the Khans of Tarkir wedge names have been spoiled. However, when comparing them to the Alara shard names as they don't really seem to 'fit' intuitively and aesthetically. Lore reasons aside (they obviously fit the the Monolianesque Tarkir, might have been better to do a wedge set on a more generic plane) I don't think these names will catch on much. Marduk might. For example:
Esper - reminds me of something to do with spirits (befitting)
Naya - reminds me of the Maya, do those Wild Nacatl speak Nahuatl? (Befitting)
Grixis - reminds me of the sound of metal gears grinding, violence, chaos, harshness
Bant- chivalry, knights, midieval stuff, feudalism, Wizards should have cut to the chase and called it Bance
Jund- sound like the name of some wild beast
Abzan- might stick
Sultai- no, but a lot better than BUG or 'Ana'
Jeskai- sounds too close to Jessica or the lore name Jeska
Mardu- I like this one, has potential
Temur- sounds like a bone in the human anatomy between the femur and the tibia
What do you think?

Its like everything new in Magic, it'll stick with the new players, and the old will continue using the old terms. I'm sure the same feelings were had with the old wedge names as well.

Eventually. I think it took a while for the Alara shard names to catch on.

I don't think the new names will catch on at all. I think the problem (compared to the shards) is that we've had these 3 color wedge decks for quite a while so names have been improvised; Three color (Shards colored) decks saw infrequent play prior to shards of Alara so the names came along with the widespread play of those colors. America (UWR) and Junk (BWG) have become quite ingrained in the magic lexicon and I don't see that changing. Similarly I think the new names for RUG and BUG will not catch on because the color combinations conveniently spell out "Rug" and "Bug." The white red black name (not sure which one it is) might catch on just because it currently lacks a widely acknowledged moniker.

I think they'll be integrated without a problem, and anyone who refers to them with old names will only have themselves to blame when they cause confusion or have difficulty communicating wedge combos to other players, especially new players.

I think the names will catch on. They're a bit weird at first, but they're actually pretty cool and it sounds more fun to say them than something like just BUG. Also calling something "Junk" will stop confusing people into thinking you're calling WBG bad x)

The Alara names only seem to fit more because we have more experience with them. Over time we'll feel the same way about the new wedge names.

The thing about these names and the Alara names are that they feel more 'Magic' than Junk and Bug and stuff. I see us using these names fluently in a few months/years

They'll stick, it's just gonna take an adjustment period. Two or three blocks from now I wouldn't be surprised if the only improvised still used is America.

Only people who think they're too cool for change will ignore the official wedge names. I actually like it that the allied shards sound western and enemy wedges sound Eastern...except the MTG universe is not on Earth anyway. lol

Actually, the first names started in the old sets of magic. I'm talking the kicker guys.
August 2, 2014 6:08 p.m.
They're not official names. Wizards have previously confirmed that.

Er ... apocalypse guys. I was thinking kicker with the volver cycle.
August 2, 2014 6:22 p.m.
Yes but again wizards have confirmed that they were not the proper names.

I never said that they were the proper names for the wedges, just saying that those were the earlier sets. It can be used as an example that as time moves on, names change. And at certain times people just don't like the names in a current set and stick to the names the are more comfortable with.

That's true. Maybe because no one played those expansions? They were very old. I always called BGW necra though.
August 2, 2014 7:22 p.m.
I personally always called the temur colors GUR instead of Rug it just felt more fitting to me but BWR has always been Dega to me even though I didn't play then it's just what was passed down to me. And GWB will probably stay junk to me out of spite as a budget player cus that's it's motto usually(Throw a bunch of really good cards together and it will be good) as well as RWB being American because it does what it wants (as a us army soldier I can't disagree)

I'd say they'll stick mostly. I really like them personally.
A lot of the older players I'm using know them, but prefer things like BUG and RUG. They're not going anywhere, especially considering the Treasure Cruise debacle. People will remember Khans for that and fetches as well, this sets been the most popular on record remember.
