Will we eventually see a planes walker for every 2 color combination?

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

So far we have a number of planes walkers for almost every 2 color combination, most recently Kiora, the Crashing Wave . Also, Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver from the same block. [[Does anybody think well eventually get a PW for each of the remaining 2 color combinations?

JWiley129 says... #2

Well, the only remaining color combination is G/W. And the rumor is there is going to be a G/W Ajani in JOU.

Epochalyptik says... #3

Probably.

Currently, planeswalkers exist in the following pairs:
RW
UB
RG
GU
UR
RB
WB
WU
BG

We're only missing GW. There's a chance Ajani will fit the bill if he's in Journey into Nyx, and there's always potential for other planeswalkers to be in those colors.

I'm actually kind of surprised GW is the last color combination to get a planeswalker.

swkelly89 says... #4

other than G/W, which other color combo is missing?

January 26, 2014 5:01 p.m.

BorosPlayer says... #5

The only two color combinations that don't have a planeswalker yet are GW, BW, and UW. It seems Ajani in JIN will be GW, so that leaves UW and BW, both of which could easily have a planeswalker,

BorosPlayer says... #6

Never mind. It appears that I missed Venser and Sorin.

January 26, 2014 5:03 p.m.

forestlore44 says... #7

Wow, I didn't realize that. I thought we still needed a RB one also.

Here's a list of all dual-colored Planeswalkers, in what I'm pretty sure is their order of printing:

Ajani Vengeant

Sarkhan the Mad

Venser, the Sojourner

Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas

Garruk Relentless  Flip

Sorin, Lord of Innistrad

Vraska the Unseen

Ral Zarek

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver

Kiora, the Crashing Wave

And of course, Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker , who's not dual-colored, but worth mentioning anyway.

As you can see, Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver isn't the first U/B walker. That honor goes to Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas .

Also, Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip is technically B/G, making him the first B/G walker. Vraska the Unseen is the first B/G walker to be printed with B/G in its mana cost.

Will we see a G/W walker? Probably. But the jury's still out on whether or not it'll be in Journey into Nyx or sometime later down the road.

Seems to me like Ajani would be the most likely candidate for a G/W printing since he comes from the Naya shard. He has been printed R/W and W so it would make sense if he were to be printed G/W.

DarkHero says... #12

so long story short yes. But the 3 color planeswalkers will be the thing to look for. Not going to happen often, but eventually there will be one for each combination im sure. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker for the win.

tman007 says... #13

R/B lookin a little feeble with only Sarkhan the Mad . I hope we see a new one soon.

January 26, 2014 5:33 p.m.

raithe000 says... #14

Only U/B, R/G and G/B (and that's iffy) have more than 1 planeswalker in their colors. R/B is no more feeble than the rest.

GoldGhost012 says... #15

Shit, I forgot the R/G walkers!

January 26, 2014 5:45 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #16

Only took me half an hour to realize it, lol.

January 26, 2014 5:45 p.m.

DaggerV says... #17

I'm sure eventually there will be a five colored one.

(Crosses fingers) 5-color Sliver Planeswalker, 5-color Sliver Planeswalker, 5-color Sliver planeswalker...

The real question is, will we ever get 4-color planeswalkers?

January 26, 2014 6:01 p.m.

miracleHat says... #19

No, the real question is whether there will be any 4 color legendary creatures (for edh).

January 26, 2014 6:06 p.m.

Anyone think we will ever get a hybrid walker? That'd be cool.

January 26, 2014 6:34 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #21

Hybrid meaning what? Like split mana symbols?

I'd like to see a legendary creature that transforms into a planeswalker

January 26, 2014 7:56 p.m.

maxon says... #22

as far as i'm concerned UG still needs a proper walker. Kiora, the Crashing Wave is cool, but i don't think it it was made for "simic" decks per-say. i'm not good enough to suggest abilities for a better one, but when i saw it, i wasn't immediately impressed by its potential for what i think of when i'm playing with simic shenanigans.

January 26, 2014 8:01 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #23

@maxon ~ I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who was disappointed by Kiora, the Crashing Wave s non-simicness.

Is she kinda cool. Yes

But she just doesn't say simic. She needs to have something to do with biomancing (like Momir Vig, Simic Visionary ) and/or counter related abilities (like Master Biomancer ).

Devonin says... #24

I don't think there will ever be 4-colour legendary creatures outside the Nephalim.

As I recall, MaRo said that they really didn't like them after they were designed because they couldn't be characterized by their colours, but were instead only characterized by which colour they -weren't-

January 26, 2014 8:09 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #25

The nephilim aren't legendary Devonin

MisterRoach says... #26

I know in one of Maro's articles concerning Garruk Relentless he points out he has a hybrid background as opposed to a gold background for flavor reasons. Does that count for your hybrid wants? :P

January 27, 2014 2:30 a.m.

Not really. I want to see a walker with ligit hybrid mana symbols.

SharuumNyan says... #28

The rumor is that Dack Fayden will be a U/R planeswalker in Journey to Nyx. The Izzet scryland is coming in the same set, so it makes sense.

January 27, 2014 11:44 a.m.

gufymike says... #29

SharuumNyan there is a problem with that rumor. The first one is that ajani is already in the artwork for journey to nyx.

The next one is that 5 planeswalkers per set is the average. source

The only point in your favor is maro won't commit to 5 in this set. But this could be due to not wanting to give anything away, either way.

For my money dack in this set is not a reality, maybe in the next couple of blocks, but this set is very unlikely.

January 27, 2014 11:56 a.m.

SharuumNyan says... #30

Dack and Ajani were both in the artwork for Theros. I don't put much stock in promotional artwork - it could mean anything.

January 27, 2014 12:58 p.m.

Rayenous says... #31

...That really could be any Cat.

Sure it's using an Axe that looks like the one Ajani wields. But even his weapon has changed over time. It was originally (and still is in his most recent printing) a staff with an Axe blade on both ends.

Alt text

If you ask me, the Cat in the Journey into Nyx picture pic looks fairly under armored for Ajani..... though, who know what he may have went through to become G/W (if he has).

Also.... that's a "Journey into Nyx" picture. If it was Ajani, don't you think he'd be in a image for either the Set he will be in, or perhaps an image for the Block, rather than for a set that he's not in?

January 27, 2014 1:20 p.m.

raithe000 says... #32

That Leonin is white. Compare to a normal one like Brimaz, King of Oreskos , or Vanguard of Brimaz . Ajani is the only famous white Leonin we know about currently. And that is the exact same axe from his staff and I'm pretty sure the same pauldrons as well.

Also, Elspeth (sortof) sends a message to Ajani in this Uncharted Realms story. It would make for a very good story if the person who Elspeth most wants to come help her shows up in her weakest moment.

And the point is that it is a Journey into Nyx poster. We think he will be in Journey into Nyx.

January 27, 2014 1:29 p.m.

Rayenous says... #33

Doh.... I don't know why I was reading and typing "Journey into Nyx", but thinking "Born of the Gods".

Well, he's wearing more green colored clothing than we are used to seeing... lol.

...but now re-reading his post, he may have meant 'transform', like Delver of Secrets  Flip into Insectile Aberration  Flip .... maybe not though.

January 30, 2014 3:18 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #39

@Rayenous ~ that's exactly what I meant. Like creature on one side and then on the other a planeswalker. I made one based off of one of my favorite video game characters Gabriel Belmont.

January 30, 2014 9:31 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #40

@Silvinity ~ Rayenous was correct. I meant like actually "transforms" on the card.

January 31, 2014 7:56 p.m.

I love Ral, but I would love a new UR Planeswalker.

ChrisMeier says... #42

Those of you complaining that Kiora, the Crashing Wave doesn't feel "simic":The guilds only exist in Ravnica. Each 2-color combination is not defined solely by the guilds. Kiora is much more traditionally GU with her control elements, card draw, ramp, and that HUGE 9/9 kraken every turn.If Kiora were meant to feel "simic", she'd have been printed in Return to Ravnica block, not Theros block.

March 8, 2014 9:47 a.m.

ChrisMeier hits the nail on the head, sort of. Simic is about evolution, not just in creatures but in all things. Knowledge, nature, beings, etc. Urban Evolution , a card printed in Gatecrash, lets you draw three cards and play an additional land. It's evolution. Kiora draws and ramps, puts huge ass creatures out, and stalls for time. She is most definitely Simic's style of play.
