We have 4 new cards and three new abilities!
Devoid - this card is colorless.
Ingest - When ~ deals damage to an opponent, exile the top card of that opponent's deck.
X, Awaken N - If you cast this spell for X, put N +1/+1 counters on target land you control. It becomes a 0/0 elemental creature with haste. It is still a land.
Primal command with bullet points is the highlight for me though! Discuss!
Also the return of allies is amazing. Thank you wizards. Now just give us fetchlands pls

My Beastbreaker of Bala Ged is going to go from 16 cents to 8 cents!!!!!
It does look pretty fun. The etb tapped fetchlands are an interesting inclusion

I am so excited! And I just cant hide it!
Let's get some card images up in this thread!
I'm liking Devoid, it's pretty straightforward as a mechanic and I'm kindof surprised we hadn't seen it before. Ingest is...interesting, and is another way for the Eldrazi to show their eating away at your life-essence.

So to resume:
ALLIES
LANDFALL
NEW ELDRAZI (with awesome looking frames!!!)
NEW MECHANICS
SPELLS THAT ANIMATE YOUR LANDS?!?!?!?!?
Holy crap. I might just cry.

vishnarg - You should know by now that the Zendikar fetches aren't in BFZ...
I would also like to say that I called it having Landfall and Allies back for BFZ. Not that it was difficult to call it, but come on.

I'm pretty upset with the new Devoid mechanic. Not only is it just generally lame, but it also screws Ugin in Standard. I don't anticipate the Devoid cards being powerful enough for Modern (based on the ones seen so far at least), but I'd really hate to see that in Modern because that significantly affects both RG Tron and U-Tron.

I'm working blue here- Ugin can fuck off and die. I'm sick of that fuckstick hosing perfectly acceptable decks. Pointy-nosed dickbag. He needs to fuck off back to the timeline where's he dead. I saw Devoid and promised myself to make a deck composed of ramp and Devoid creatures just to kill Ugin.
August 17, 2015 12:18 p.m.
I mean, the most "playable" of the Devoid cards we've seen is Forerunner of Slaughter. And odds are it won't be seeing any play.
I feel like this needs repeating: It's ok if you don't like something, not everything is for you. That doesn't mean it's bad, but just be aware that someone else likes it.

Sheer Drop is only a drop away from a sheer limited bomb (da-zing!). Sure, it isn't instant but... man. Ingest really is evil with Oblivion Sower. Set looks interesting enough for limited.

Looks cool. I really like the framing for colored cards with Devoid.
August 17, 2015 12:59 p.m.
Some decent value with Primal Command and It That Betrays.
August 17, 2015 1:21 p.m.
Jwiley, I absolutely know we aren't getting fetches. It was an ironic comment and I was showing my frustration in that asset of the set.
August 17, 2015 1:26 p.m.
just a question, if you put the +1/+1 counters from Awaken onto a Stirring Wildwood, then make it into a 3/4 reach, would it become a 6/7 reach because of the +1/+1 couners? Great decks though. definitely picking one up.
August 17, 2015 1:43 p.m.
JohnnyBaggins says... #17
CheeseBro: Yes. You put the counters on the card, which turns it to a 0/0 base and 3/3 with counters. Then you activate the effect, which overwrites its Power and Toughness numbers, making it a 3/4 base power/toughness, adding the counters, a 6/7.

Time to scoop up all those Darksteel Garrisons for that modern awakening deck thats about to become a thing, right? ...right?
August 17, 2015 2:02 p.m.
Schuesseled - I mean, ignoring the fact it's xill or mill or whatever you want to call it, the mechanic is SUPER flavorful with what the Eldrazi do. It's a way for Wizards to get the same feel as Annihilator without being as overwhelming and powerful as Annihilator was. Plus you can get into tricks where you have creatures get "Whenever ~ ingests, do X". I like the flavor of the mechanic and where it could lead.
August 17, 2015 2:07 p.m.
FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #21
Flavorwise, it's nice, but there's a serious difference between sacrificing a permanent and exiling a card of the top of your deck. I guess I would have preferred it to be Ingest X, so that more powerful creatures could use the ability to a greater extent. But I shouldn't be talking, we've seen 5 new cards. Plenty to come :)
August 17, 2015 2:10 p.m.
FAMOUSWATERMELON - I think that the distinction is that the Eldrazi don't consume a plane outright in one gulp. They slowly eat away at it, making it weaker and weaker as time goes on. That is the flavor of Ingest. It's not going to consume you immediately, but over time, those little nibbles add up.
August 17, 2015 2:17 p.m.
buildingadeck says... #23
I just think that the ability to make a colored card non-colored is okay flavor, but pretty bland overall, unless it is also non-colored when not in play. Then it could be cool for cards like Ancient Stirrings and such.

XILL XILL XILL XILL XILL XILL XILL!
So hyped for Xilling to be in an actual mechanic :D

FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #25
I wouldn't exactly call the old eldrazi "a little nibble"...

ComradeJim270 says... #26
Yay, allies! I am now actually interested in this set.
August 17, 2015 2:57 p.m.
ComradeJim270 says... #28
Devoid does seem weird, but I actually do like it. It should help create more variety in decks instead of us seeing the same Eldrazi all over the place, which sounds very boring. Not likely I'll be playing much of this stuff anyway since I'm leaving Standard when my deck stops working in it, but I can appreciate that.
August 17, 2015 3:44 p.m.
RoarMaster says... #29
Too bad all the allies seem pretty, ummm, not good... so far at least.
August 17, 2015 4 p.m.
ComradeJim270 says... #30
Well, we've only seen one from the new set. Too early to call it.
August 17, 2015 4:02 p.m.
FAMOUSWATERMELON - Yeah, Ulamog probably doesn't "nibble" so much as "OM NOM NOM NOM". But the analogy stands.

Didgeridooda says... #32
Ally dudes are all reprint except the one. He might be ok, but not really what I am looking for.
August 17, 2015 4:54 p.m.
ComradeJim270 says... #33
I just love tribal in general (dat synergy!), so tribal support makes me happy. Eldrazi don't appeal to me at all as something I'd like to play, but I like how they seem to be doing them and they seem more like something I'd be interested in playing against, now.
August 17, 2015 5:02 p.m.
TheAnnihilator says... #34
I see alot of hate on Devoid, so I have to pitch in that I really, really like the mechanic. I can't say why, since it doesn't seem to have a real purpose, per se. However, it's cool to think that "Colorless Tribal" could be a real thing.
And though the idea of devoid seems kindof contradictory (colorless, but costs colored mana?), it makes sense for the Eldrazi.
August 17, 2015 5:10 p.m.
buildingadeck says... #36
TheAnnihilator: I agree with you on the second part; it is a very Eldrazi thing to do. I just really wish that it wouldn't screw over cards like Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. As a control player, it's upsetting. I don't see them becoming a thing in Modern, though, so I'm not too concerned.

The new eldrazi frames look sweet! Devoid and ingest are also nice simple abilities that seem cool.

TheFoilAjani says... #38
Boza, there is one key thing about awaken. It isn't until eot. It's permanent.
August 17, 2015 5:15 p.m.
RoarMaster says... #40
ComradeJim270 Actually they have shown 5 allies, all of which kinda suck.
August 17, 2015 6:56 p.m.
ComradeJim270 says... #41
I only see the Veteran Warleader from BFZ, the rest look like reprints so them being in the duel deck doesn't indicate they'll be in the set.

HolyFalcon says... #42
buildingadeck: I believe you can Ancient Stirrings into a Devoid card. It's still colorless.
August 17, 2015 7:06 p.m.
buildingadeck says... #43
Magicrafter: It depends on how the ability is rendered. Hexproof creatures can be targeted by Despise, for instance.
August 17, 2015 7:41 p.m.
Didgeridooda says... #44
Though colorless, those cards still have a color identity. Just want to start saying that so people see it for edh.
August 17, 2015 7:46 p.m.
TheFoilAjani says... #45
buildingadeck, it does say card. So I think that makes it targetable.
August 17, 2015 7:46 p.m.
ComradeJim270 says... #46
Very true, Didgeridooda. I still see people getting confused by color ID rules. This could get almost as frustrating in that regard as Extort is.
August 17, 2015 7:47 p.m.
buildingadeck says... #47
Ah, I didn't notice that it read card. Carry on.
August 17, 2015 8:17 p.m.
@TheFoilAjani, only the hsate part is until the end of the turn. Everything else is permanent on Awaken.
vishnarg says... #2
This looks fantastic! I'm so pumped!
