If you want to talk about Wolves and Werewolves in Standard, you're in the right place!
If you're looking for other formats, please drop by Werewolf EDH for Commander or Modern Wolves for Modern.
- You're 100% welcome to post here asking for help on anything Wolven, though you may want to set up a separate thread as well, in the Standard Deck Help forum.
- Please don't hesitate to post your deck in large format (it makes it easier for others to find the decks that are asking for help).
- Here's the syntax for a large format deck ... just copy-and-paste, replacing the "gruul-wolves-soi" part with the "slug name" from your deck's URL:

IrateWarrior,
Looking just at the Hall of Fame decks, the average Land:Creature ratios are ...
- 22:20 for Zada
- 23:21 for Heirloom
- 23:25 for CoCo
- 21:26 for Skin Invasion
- 22:22 overall average
You're running Heirloom, right?

im completely new to wolves I have always had commanders (Gitrog, Prossh) but few of my group only really enjoy 60 Standard so my wolves if pretty much free throwing everyones ideas into it and now starting to take form lol.
Im very much enjoying the Duskwatch Recruiter Flip and Lambholt Pacifist Flip structure, but I really don't know how I feel about the heirloom. I completely see why it can make your guys monsters but I havnt had much luck with them personally.
your the first person to even mention Skin Invasion Flip I use to have 2 in my theory deck but most ppl advised against

Hello im new to tappedout and magic in general. I Got a question tho, how do u playtest your decks against other decks here?
Also check out my Wolf deck could use some pointers.
May 13, 2016 3:18 p.m.
Hey Vejhi I usually open my deck in one tab, open my 'opponent's deck" in another tab, and then hit the button "playtest v1." I have to control both decks knowing that I won't know what is in the other person's hand and having to make attacks without focusing on What the other deck has. That's how I do it anyways xd
Also here's a link to his deck if anyone was wondering Howling for a victory

So funny thing happened this fnm, 2 out of the 3 matches I played, I lost to a midrange werewolf deck. What should have been an easy game for my Jund deck, I ended up losing due to not drawing enough kill spells and underestimating my opponent. I was able to beat B/W midrange and bant CoCo 2-0, but not a werewolf deck, I was pretty upset to be honest haha. The worst part was he ran Arlinn Kord Flip which I'm completely against in a werewolf deck. I guess I should take this as some kind of karmic punishment for not running werewolves myself, ey clayperce?
May 14, 2016 11:15 a.m.
AndyReveler,
Definitely karma! Or maybe just, as Rasanck pointed out, the full moon?
:-D
May 14, 2016 2:29 p.m.
Hehe karma indeed, what was he playing in his Wolf deck AndyReveler?

i do love the Arlinn Kord Flip im glad to see someone use it AndyReveler. im surprised to see the x4 Breakneck Rider Flip from what i gathered thats pretty much the first wolf to cut
May 14, 2016 7:28 p.m.
Breakneck Rider is a great card; Anthem effect and Trample on a 4/3 stick. I'd rather cut Hermit or Pacifist first.
May 14, 2016 7:53 p.m.
AndyReveler says... #17
it's a very simple build, relying only having a few, but tough wolves that plays the strongest, hardest hitting wolves. You only cut Breakneck Rider Flip if you're not constantly attacking or aren't running coco, otherwise it's a solid 3 drop wolf, if you're running any build besides an aggressive build than yeah, it usually gets cut out in favor for Silverfur Partisan
May 14, 2016 8:22 p.m.
Breakneck Rider Flip is coco gold with Geier Reach Bandit Flip. Piece of a turn 5 over run stampede.
May 14, 2016 10:13 p.m.
CoCo is so good especially with Vildin-Pack Alpha... Just gives you the payoff immediately.
May 14, 2016 10:33 p.m.
beckhr:Its why I like in my version. Basically over time though it became more like Gruul CoCo with mainly wolves.
May 14, 2016 10:59 p.m.
My deck is doing that a bit too. I added Tireless Tracker and Sin Prodder, which pair nicely with Duskwatch Recruiter, for a Card Advantage Engine. I found that you just run out of cards and things to do in the all_werewolf.dec, which leads to spot removal being such a wash. It also makes you more resilient to Languish.
May 14, 2016 11:07 p.m.
Literally what I did, Sin Prodder was just ok, but Tireless Tracker was phenomenal; because of that I just made it all Tireless Tracker...Removed Silverfur Partisan for Sylvan Advocate and literally dominated..made top 8 at my stores IQ.
May 14, 2016 11:10 p.m.
Just wanted the mat, then dropped to my friend because he actually wanted to get the invite. Sadly he got punished in finals. Mirror between gw tokens was fun to watch though.
May 14, 2016 11:12 p.m.
BlueEyes: I'm only running two of him. I have a lot of Anthem effects: Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, Atarka's Command, and Neckbreaker, so I think that will make the Menace a bit more relevant.
May 14, 2016 11:28 p.m.
beckhr: I run Neglected Heirloom Flip over Atarka's Command (got tired of moving it from deck to deck)...It causes many wins and many people undervalued the card...Some reason Nissa, Voice of Zendikar was only good for very few match ups in my meta. I guess in all honesty it depends on the store.
May 14, 2016 11:36 p.m.
BlueEyes: I find the anthem and bolt to the face to be really useful for reach on A-Command. Neglected Heirloom at sorcery speed is nice when they have no spot removal.
My meta was really good with her as a repeatable anthem/token maker as well as a distraction from my life total.
May 15, 2016 12:11 a.m.
My meta is full of counters as well. So its easier to resolve something that will stick like Neglected Heirloom Flip, tons of spot removal aswell. So i am almost forced to try to survive Languish and big burn spells...aswell as race destroy spells.
May 15, 2016 12:19 a.m.
Thx AndyReveler on that im curious as to how effective Sin Prodder was? Was it hard to play against or less of a Factor?
May 15, 2016 10:06 a.m.
AndyReveler says... #29
it was easier for me to play against because it gave the Kolaghan's Commands in my deck another target to burn besides all of the other kill I had Vejhi. The menace didn't really matter against me either, but other than that it performed the way it was supposed to with the card draw.

What Side decks would you fellow players use for a Derevi, Empyrial Tactician Control deck? constantly keeping your lands tapped
May 16, 2016 9:37 a.m.
IrateWarrior,
Yeah, Derevi, Empyrial Tactician is only legal in Legacy, Vintage, and Commander. You may be able to find an answer over on the Werewolf EDH thread.

shoot thought id try. I Run a The Gitrog Monster commander and my buddy runs the Derevi, Empyrial Tactician.. I have fingers/toes/eyes everything crossed that eldritch moon comes out with a legendary Werewolf so we can finally run a commander deck. Bring back all the amazing wolves we cant use in standard.

oh thanks clayperce I never knew about the EDH thread :). I have one group of friends that is nothing but standard 60cards and one that only plays EDH lol. Costly to keep making both formats of decks

Hey there, fellow wolfmen and wolfwomen! Just stopping by to say hello before diving down the rabbit-hole of talking about wolf decks.
Looking forward to my deck's first real test at FNM in my LGS, and if my day-to-day casual play there has been any indication I should do pretty well! Most of the other decks I've been seeing are superfriends-ish control (there are so many viable pw's in standard it's scary), midrangey bant value-town (with lots of investigate and etb stuff), and G/W humans and angels. A couple other wolf decks have come into the shop, but they weren't nearly as tuned as mine. Naturally, if I could afford some CoCo's I'd throw in a playset and drop the Sages and Hermits in a hot second. Regardless, I've been quite happy with how this deck plays.
Here's my deck: Teen Wolf

Lightningwolf92,
Welcome to the thread and I look forward to checking out your deck!
As aside, I know it's obvious, but not everyone on this thread is a guy. And sure, "guys" is a gender-neutral term in a lot of areas, but it's not everywhere. Thanks!
IrateWarrior,
Yeah, anything above 22 targetable creatures is worthwhile (22 "gives a 5% chance of missing completely, a 21% probability of hitting one creature, and a 74% probability of hitting two creatures."). More info here.

clayperce Thanks :), Since you seem to be the wolf deck final say could you look at mine one last time, about to put in my order for my upgrades for my group battles next month. Don't wanna place my order and realize I forgot some cards:)
May 17, 2016 10:14 a.m.
IrateWarrior,
I'm always happy to take a look, but I'm really only good on the "wide swaths" ... for tuning a CoCo deck, I'd look to BlueEyes, BoB_6082, and Kizmetto ...

I don't like to draw evo leap in some Matchup, and I always want at least 1 Howlpack on the board. These changes should be helping in that regard.
Swapping Kessig for Lambholt. will see how it works.
Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh Flip helped me a lot Saturday (won me 3games out of the 9 I played). It was a temporary addition, but she may be worth the slot, at least in side.

Greetings all,
Through a fortuitous turn of events I appear to have been introduced to this group and am delighted to see a number of people having success with home brewed r/g werewolves decks. I looked at the concept awhile back but couldn't see a way to make it work, this may have been because collected company didn't occur to me as a way to transform werewolves and flood the board all without wasting a turn or transforming already flipped wolves to humans. I will certainly revisit this idea in the future.
On the topic of my Flash Werewolves deck that clayperce so kindly shared, I would greatly appreciate any advice that you all might have. Despite its appearances it's not actually a budget deck, for all the money in the world I couldn't think of a way to improve on it.
