If you're looking for other formats, please drop by Werewolf EDH for Commander or Modern Wolves for Modern.
- You're 100% welcome to post here asking for help on anything Wolven, though you may want to set up a separate thread as well, in the Standard Deck Help forum.
- Please don't hesitate to post your deck in large format (it makes it easier for others to find the decks that are asking for help).
- Here's the syntax for a large format deck ... just copy-and-paste, replacing the "gruul-wolves-soi" part with the "slug name" from your deck's URL:

Hello everyone! It's me again :d! I noticed that everytime I play my werewolf deck (zada combo or standard with neglected heirloom) it seems that I am lacking something, if I don't get the right cards in the right order I run out of gas really quickly :(. I added Tireless Tracker and she did a really good job and was actually the MVP of everygame I won, but I felt like it was because it's just a good card. I checked a lot of successful decks here and it seems a lot of decks are playing collected company, is it worth to invest in a playset now? It's quite expensive but seems really good with all the good wolfs/ww with 3 mana or less. I also have a ton of ww from innistrad block so it might be useful for my modern deck as well. Any thoughts? Did someone have the opportunity to test with collected company and without?Thank you!
June 6, 2016 12:40 p.m.
If you are scared about CoCo losing its value, don't worry, it won't lose anything, it is too heavily played in Modern and Legacy. As for the power of it, it sure his powerful because you can keep your mana, pass your turn to flip, then on their end step CoCo to burn your mana.
June 6, 2016 8:35 p.m.
Collected Company is just pure value, and for exact reasons that Volvary explained, allows you to flip your WWs but still do something with your "turn" but on your opponents! Plus its great to cast it in response to stuff, fun to watch their reaction anyway. Also the modern applications. I too, am building WW for modern. Standard doesnt feel viable enough (But waiting for eldritch moon!)
June 6, 2016 10 p.m.
You convinced me :d, too bad it is that expensive though. I might wait for Eldricht moon spoilers and see if there are good midrange werewolfs like Huntmaster of the Fells Flip or Instigator Gang Flip. I really hope we get a baddass legendary werewolf or an enchantment that allows us to pay mana to transform our WW at will. I don't expect a Moonmist reprint and I actually hope we get something different but as good!
June 7, 2016 11:39 a.m.
foxysky i really, really hope for an Immerwolf reprint or a Ranger's Guile reprint or a Black Lotus
jk about black lotus but seriously, rangers guile would make my opponent's cry.
June 7, 2016 12:43 p.m.
Gosh Moonmist is so good... But with the origin walkers still around i cant see it happening. BUT IT WOULD BE SO GOOD IF THEY DID. Its working so well in my modern deck , flip at my command and one sided fog, very nice.
we should be getting EDM spoilers soon now that Eternal Masters is coming out this friday!
June 7, 2016 8:45 p.m.
also i think we need a good utility werewolf, like a Looting effect one or something, since RG can't...really draw cards. Rummaging Goblin or something similar would be good i think, also another 1 drop would be good. BUT yes we need a good finisher too, like Kruin Outlaw Flip or Huntmaster of the Fells Flip (though i can see many naya builds with Eldrazi Displacer with him.)
June 7, 2016 8:54 p.m.
Kizmetto, something to note about Moonmist is that it would transform the human Origins Planeswalkers, but they would not get any loyalty counters, so they would immediately die.
I would like a legendary pack leader with an ability to find other werewolves.
June 8, 2016 8:48 a.m.
terribleusername,
I know it's obvious, but not everyone on this thread is a guy. And sure, "guys" is a gender-neutral term in many places, but not everywhere. Thanks much!
Kizmetto and others,
Yeah, I can hardly wait for EMN spoilers too ... they should start on the 27th!

clayperceSorry, I guess using a gender-neutral term like guys was wrong. I meant it in a sense of like "Hey Guys", not like "Hey only males" Sorry if I offended you.But seriously did anyone check out the deck?
June 8, 2016 9:17 a.m.
When talking to multiple people, I prefer to say 'hey meatbags'.
June 8, 2016 9:37 a.m.
Hey everyone. So glad i found a thread for ww. Need to update the deck i have now. Did have a comment for some of the people that were talking about 1 drops for their deck. I run 4 village messengers, 4 kessig forgemasters, and 4 skin invasions. I tend to have atleast one of each in my hand almost every time i start. I have found that putting a skin invasion on one of the other two early enough allows me to get a few hits in without being blocked for fear of having it flip early from my opponent. Just my two-sense. Looking forward to some awesome future convos.
June 8, 2016 11:40 p.m.
welcome MNArmyBoy!
Aura's stay on when flipping dont they? I've always used Skin Invasion Flip as pseudo removal.. mm yes i like it. Kessig Forgemaster Flip isn't a one drop though.
I imagine this thread will get much more activity once spoiler season starts.
June 9, 2016 12:24 a.m.
Kizmetto that is true about both the aura and kessig. But even attacking with kessig, as my opponent, do you want to block and kill my 2/1 or even 1/1 and allow me the Skin Shedding. First two or three turns, probably not.
June 9, 2016 12:29 a.m.
Kizmetto,
I would love to see a reprint ... something like Wild Defiance might be just the thing to make the Silverfur Partisan
+
Zada, Hedron Grinder
combo viable! ;-)
June 10, 2016 4:03 a.m.
Speaking of the zadafur combo. I have been toying with it as a psuedo-aggro/midrange deck. Using the haste creatures to keep my opt on the back peddle early and using my hydra to help prevent them from attacking or eating removal. Then I added Expedite + Swell of Growth . If you play both ob the same Turn, you can be looking as a seriously huge combo turn. Once I did it where I expedited zada for 4 total card draws. I still had 3 open mana, expedited again for 7 card draws (2 open mana) into swell of growth for 15 total targets and 4 land played from my hand. And swong in for all I had and ended the combo with AdreNaline Rush.
A word of warning through, if you pilot this deck, dont get greedy with expedite, I have decked myself a couple times because I wanted a "win more" than just a wide kill.
June 10, 2016 8:36 a.m.
You still own the aura, so putting it on a x/1 and doing the kessig combo would actually work in your favor. My creature would attack, your kessig would kill it, you would get the 3/4. In that regard it is actually a pretty sick combo, however it would be pretty minuscule on the chances of it happening, considering you Need both cards in the first 1 - 3 turns to successfully pull it off
June 10, 2016 8:46 a.m.
This is my first attempt at at werewolf/vampire themed deck and I'd love to hear what you think!

Hey everyone, been awhile. Got a new laptop now.
Updated my werewolves deck into a Naya version of Bant Humans CoCo. It is indeed quite interesting, seems to fair nicely during tests and much more reliable... Think it needs more mana fixing, but until then.

I just recently started playing MTG again after a 15+ year hiatus. I participated in a booster draft to get back into it and my first draw resulted in a lot of werewolves. I decided to take that deck and expand on it which led me to this thread. Thank you to everyone has contributed, you've help my deck much more competitive and fun to play.

Great, the trailer showed what looks like a Eldrazi Werewolf. This could get interesting...
June 20, 2016 7:23 p.m.
PistonGolem,
I think the image (at 0:25 in the trailer) is a Wolf Horror (like Scourge Wolf), not a Werewolf.
See, for example, Steve Preescott's concept drawings of the two.
I agree though, this could DEFINITELY get interesting!

Ulrich of the Krallenhorde is rather disappointing lol
June 21, 2016 10:35 a.m.
Yes it is not the best werewolf card we could have expected but I like him nonetheless. I will be looking to buy 3 or 2 copies, I don't know for the moment. By the way I have a question, which price do you think I should pay for this card? The price trend is around 10 euros atm which I think is a bit expensive... Do you think it will go down? Should I wait?
June 21, 2016 11:52 a.m.
foxysky id say 5-7 is the most it should cost, but its hard to say, maybe we get something really good for the Wolf tribal that makes him good, ive put my Wolf deck away, my hopes arent High.

We wolves needed a new legendary to make EDH viable yet every substitute for a commander people have been using are better then him. Wolves thrive off haste and trample which he gives neither only a small bump human form or becomes a free Moonlight Hunt as a wolf. Plus the fact he isn't a 3 drop the even thought of me being able to use him in my Collected Company standards are out. very upset

Ulrich is so lame- Wolven decks will never be Tier 1 if they keep serving up trash like this.

If we get a Moonmist reprint, I would be a very happy werewolf player.
June 24, 2016 4:13 p.m.
It's been a while since I visited this thread. I've been to busy with my other deck.
In preparation for EMN, I concocted this decklist - transitioning my ever-effective Gruul Werewolves to Naya. It's not as fast as one would think it to be, but it's deadly. Odrich + Village Messenger menace, you say? Or Thalia pumpin' out your wolves or the vigilance + trample from two enchantments like Always Watching and Howlpack Resurgence?

I'm not overjoyed about this: "All the Eldritch Moon double-faced cards, save Ulrich, represent mutation as a result of Emrakul" (Source).
So we're getting some Wolves, and Fibrous Entangler (mentioned in Access Magic, Episode 2), but no normal Werewolves?
Bummer ...
June 29, 2016 6:32 a.m.
that sucks... Oh well. Looks like we'll be mixing some tribes to maximize the new cards...

they're not great nor modern playable.. but i do like the 1 drop. art and mana sink is nice. yeah please just a support spell is all both formats need!!

I wanted to see how it would go against other aggro decks in our LGS.
To my surprise, I went against BW Control, 4C Rites, and Bant Humans. Two of my matches were 2-0 for BW Control and 4C Rites. I almost lost to Bant Humans at 2-1 had it not been for a very top-decked sideboard card...
Match details:
1.) BW Control - Every FNM, I always manage to go against this guy. We've had so many matches that I already know what his deck had in store for me. Right off the bat, I dropped Village Messenger Flip turn 1 and Neglected Heirloom turn 2. By turn 5, I had Lambholt Pacifist out with a flipped Ashmouth Blade Flip. I had to focus to get my creatures out of Languish range and when his Gideon and Ob Nixilis came out, I just went straight for them. All in all, the games had me at full board control with 1 Always Watching and Howlpack Resurgence out. The synergy between them is just so awesome.
2.) 4C Rites - This was a very difficult deck to deal with because of the Eldrazi Displacer, but like BW control, he just couldn't remove all of my big creatures out to prevent damage. I had two Always Watching out and Dromoka's Command made sure that I cleared his board and got rid of Cryptolith Rite...
3.) Bant Humans - This match-up was difficult as hell. He took game 1 as I didn't have enough creatures out due to the Reflector Mage and Eldrazi Displacer. It wasn't until game 2 that I sideboarded Radiant Flames for three damage to clear his board, and also Gryff's Boon to let one of my big babies fly.

All,
I had totally missed the heavy Werewolf theme of this deck earlier, but check this out: DruneGrey made it to Round 4 of zandl's SOI Standard Poor-Man Challenge (Commons and Uncommons only). Only 28 decks remain (from a starting field of 110), and one of them is a RDWW (Red Deck Werewolf Wins) brew!
