If you're looking for other formats, please drop by Werewolf EDH for Commander or Modern Wolves for Modern.
- You're 100% welcome to post here asking for help on anything Wolven, though you may want to set up a separate thread as well, in the Standard Deck Help forum.
- Please don't hesitate to post your deck in large format (it makes it easier for others to find the decks that are asking for help).
- Here's the syntax for a large format deck ... just copy-and-paste, replacing the "gruul-wolves-soi" part with the "slug name" from your deck's URL:

We got sideboard tech! Though as Wedge said, 1 or 2 mainboard is still good since its a 3/3 for three and is COCOable!
Also has spirit benifits if you ever did a simic spirit deck for whatever reason? (Can give it hexproof i guess lmao)

Okay, we need to start brewing a Budget And Competitive Werewolves Lists... And that wolf spirit is going to be most likely in both.

I love that new wolf card!!!! First time I am really excited about ENM ! It seems so good vs languish :d !! and even engulf the shore in some cases!

Oh wow, we got a better Zada!
Silverfur Partisan
+
Zada, Hedron Grinder
was just too fragile for my tastes. But with the addition of a bigger-badder Zada Mirrorwing Dragon, we may actually have a viable deck!
Thoughts?
July 5, 2016 5:32 p.m.
I know.it is a combo.deck in itself but the zadafur deck was definitely too fragile. Once the opt knew what you were doing thet held all the counter and kill.magic for the combo pieces. The dragon definitely has a bigger body and more of a "love factor" from.me due to it only being a dragon. But, the same problem will still reside, it is going to be predictable so the only way I really see it being super viable: have it (and the combo pieces) in the sideboard for a game 2 different deck. At least thats what I am doing now. I have zadafur main and have my more aggro creatures in the sideboard for a new deck game 2. When i had it as my primary, the rest of the deck couldn't really support itself. Just my opinion
July 5, 2016 7:45 p.m.
Mirrorwing Dragon is the bomb that all Zadafur decks have been looking for.
Rejoice!

Here's a deck I ran this past weekend at a local tournament and placed first (3/0). It held up very well against B/U control and W/U control (not a single loss out of best-of-three to either). Eldrazi ramp played it closer for my toughest competition.
Let me know if you have thoughts or critics of it. Also, I've enjoyed reading y'alls comments about the upcoming Eldritch Moon. I think I have all the adjustments in place I'd like to make once it hits.

Mirrorwing Dragon will appeal not just to us Wolven fanboys/fangirls e.g UR Flyers, Esper Dragons etc..
July 7, 2016 7:06 a.m.
I'm personally holding out for a while on Mirrorwing Dragon.
Dragons are a hugely popular tribe and most of the Mythics have held value. But I'm thinking about Avaricious Dragon ... it's really the only other Mythic Dragon with downside, and it's settled out well under $5 ...
(For those of you going "What's this downside you speak of?", please don't forget Mirrorwing Dragon is really dangerous when you're at parity on boardstate or worse. If an opponent casts a pump spell targeting Mirrorwing, all their Creatures get the pump :-( The good news though: Dromoka's Command won't work on it, since the spell has to target only Mirrorwing.)
July 7, 2016 8:18 a.m.
can anyone give me a suggestion on my blue and white human deck. I have 4 toppleists which is not a huamn but is my only flyer in the deck. I leave it in there so I can run invocation of the saint draft on and because it a 1 for 1/1 flyer. I am thinking of switching out the toppgesit and putting exedition fury. Should i make the switch? I also run counsl lieutent,, always watching, and thalia lieutenent to pump my humans

joshm5,
I recommend posting your question (and a link to your deck) in the Standard Deck Help forum.
July 7, 2016 8:46 a.m.
But the upside, clayperce, is that if they attempt to damage Mirrorwing Dragon, they will ALSO damage all of their own creatures... It appears to be a pumped Zada, Hedron Grinder

majtnkr,
Oh, I totally agree (see my Post #709, for example).
It just that the card's not all upside.

For anyone contemplating a Zada/Mirrorwing/Partisan (what do we call that?) build for EMN, I wanted to share some of the numbers from the Zada decks in the Hall of Fame:
- Fur-Force One: 15 Wolves / 11 pumps / 24 Land
- Westvale Wolven High GAME DAY TOP EIGHT: 18 Wolves / 10 pumps / 22 Land
- Wolf Pack Attack: 16 Wolves / 14 pumps / 22 Land
- Dirty Dogs!: 17 Wolves / 9 pumps / 22 Land
- "Average" Hall of Fame Zada deck: 16.5 Wolves / 11.0 pumps / 22.5 Land
The breakdown on the pump spells is ...
- Expedite: 3.0
- Might of the Masses: 2.5
- Rush of Adrenaline: 2.0
- Titan's Strength: 1.8
- Uncaged Fury: 0.8
- Swell of Growth: 0.5
- Vines of the Recluse: 0.5

Or is Mirrorwing Dragon an illegal target? #goddammit
July 8, 2016 10:12 p.m.
Rabid_Wombat,
Not at all; I'm totally brewing Zada-Mirrorwing (over here if you're interested)!
But you got it right in Post #734 ... Waxing Moon doesn't work with Zada, Hedron Grinder nor Mirrorwing Dragon. You can cast it no problem (due to the "up to one"), but since neither Zada nor Mirrorwing is a valid target, you can't "target only ~", so their triggers won't activate. :-(
July 8, 2016 10:22 p.m. Edited.
Sooo, clayperce, would borrowed hostility count as TWO targets in a ZadaWingFur deck, thereby doubling (or more) the wolf tokens if Escalate is utilized and properly targeted? Hmmmm....

Bagged first place again for FNM with my Naya Wolves. Details to follow in an hour. :)
July 9, 2016 9:06 a.m.
or not...
Here's how my FNM went
Match-ups
1.) Atarka Red - 2:0
2.) Naya Superfriends 2:1
3.) 4C Rites - 2:0
First match: Atarka Red.
I first thought that i was goign against RG Werewolves when I saw Cinder Glade but I was wrong. This match-up was a surprise because I have not encountered this deck yet, but I do know that it was a burn deck of sorts. I just didn't know how it was played out.
So, early game, he had control. He drew out his burns and had his creatures out. I actually felt that I was going to lose, until I dropped Always Watching and Howlpack Resurgence. By then, I dropped creatures left and right till he could no longer burn them all. Atarka's Command was a problem, but it was manageable.
Second game, he took control early game till I top-decked Sigarda, Heron's Grace on my third turn. By the time I dropped her, I had Thalia's Lieutenant and Geier Reach Bandit out with an Always Watching and Neglected Heirloom attached to a Lambholt Pacifist. He just scooped after a couple of turns.
2nd match - Naya Superfriends
I thought I was going to lose this one because this guy was one of the best players in the shop and his deck was insane. Tokens here, planeswalkers there, and removals on the side. The only time I lost was I did not get Sigarda, Heron's Grace out to play and I didn't have my buff enchantments out.
We just fought out control until I managed to get rid of his planeswalkers - it was difficult because his tokens were chump-blocking left and right. He didn't have an answer for Sigarda, thankfully. He could've used Clip Wings but I didn't think he had it in his sides...
3rd match - 4C Rites
This deck just steamrolls past control decks, like 4C Rites, and when the momentum is there early, it pretty much hits hard and pressures the opponent into tilting. This could've been the best game since I made this deck because I had two Howlpacks and two Always Watching out so he just couldn't get rid of my creatures...
July 9, 2016 9:21 a.m.
majtnkr,
It depends ... you can use Borrowed Hostility in a bunch of different ways.
Say you had Zada, Hedron Grinder, Silverfur Partisan, and a 2/2 Wolf on the battlefield and available. Cast Hostility for the Escalate cost, targeting only Zada with both modes. Zada triggers and the spell copies. Silverfur sees the copies target himself and the Token, so drops two more Tokens. If the spell resolves, Zada, Silverfur, and the first Token get +3/+0 and gain first strike.
Say you didn't have Zada though. You could still cast Hostility for the Escalate cost, targeting Silverfur with one mode (for example, the +3/+0 one) and the Token with the other. Silverfur sees the spell target himself and the Token, so drops two more Tokens. If the spell resolves, Silverfur (in this example) gets +3/+0 and the first Token gains first strike.

Vejhi,
I think Hanwer Garrison, Liliana, the Last Hope, and Emrakul, the Promised End might have something to say about that. And I hope Mirrorwing Dragon and Waxing Moon will!
Either way, that's probably a better discussion for a General or Standard thread, rather than a Standard Deck Help thread about Werewolves :-)

AndyReveler,
IDK ... I was disappointed by the Eldrazi Werewolves at first but they're increasingly intriguing. They're REALLY good with Waxing Moon, because they don't transform back. And while Geier Reach Bandit
Flip + Waxing Moon is great with traditional Werewolves, it looks insane with Eldrazi Werewolves. And of course there's always RG Ramp, with plenty of mana for transforming them along the way. We'll see ...
