Archangel Avacyn  Flip or Westvale Abbey  Flip?

Standard Deck Help forum

Posted on April 3, 2016, 2:51 p.m. by nobodygaming

So coming out of 5 pre releases this weekend I have playsets of both cards. No current standard deck, and undecided which I want to build towards. Looking for ideas/suggestions to do one deck or the other since its been a long weekend of sealed and I may not have slept in the last couple of nights

B/W Tokens works and Avacyn and Abbey can be two of your win cons. I mean you don't need a 4 of her just 2-3 will work and rest of the deck is on you.

I was either going to do some form of W/B humans/tokens for flavor reasons, but green with From Beyond seemed okay in my head if I could also ramp into an Ulamog or something equally gross if flipping the Abbey doesn't work out in a game.

I believed the only token generators I still have from my gutted standard deck are Oath of Gideon, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, and Secure the Wastes but I think I have better plays with new SOI cards if I actually go through them. Also Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet seems like a way to get more tokens if I'm W/B

I know Hangarback Walker is another good token maker

if you want to ramp with tokens you can use also Cryptolith Rite

I completely forgot about Cryptolith Rite since I never opened any in 5 pre releases + 20 prize boosters. I could imagine a janky rush of 1-2 drops along with a turn 4 Rite to tap my team and flip the Abbey. There are only a million ways this will go wrong when my opponents interact, but if I pull it off at least once at an FNM then I'd be happy

I would say that in a vaccuum, Westvale Abbey  Flip is by far superior. It's being called the best land in standard and definitely deserves everyone's attention.

This is the deck I plan on tinkering with for the next little while, kind of in the same vein as what's been discussed with a little spice added in the form of an infinite combo.
