Elves

Standard Deck Help forum

So I put together an elf deck last night (without any Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip (money & availability). Just to try elves, I tossed a bunch in with some support spells. I played against my friend's Mardu Control deck and got slaughtered faster and worse than anything I've played in ages! A simple Seeker of the Way shut down my entire early game.

  • Are elves REALLY this bad?

Disclaimer: I had no removal, in an attempt to simply see how well they could pull off tribal agro. Clearly I will need significant removal going forward, but here's the point of the thread:

  • Please post any successful and proven elf decks you've played, or sources/references for elf decks. I typically use MTGTop8.com, but elves are still too new in Origins to appear as top finishers... especially since they lack any win-cons or big hitters. I suspect and sure hope they get significant help in Zendikar!

no elf deck are really fun, quick and powerful my deck was banned in my playgroup becurse in was on a roll in 3 turn and they could not stop me and i just made it from two commander 2014 deck becurse had some spare card and well thought to my self why not make it and it was awesomehttp://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/my-current-elf-deck/but if you are trying to make a standrad elf deck then i have one of those two but i have to say thay i dont find the stanard elf all that good but they can make some pretty combos http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/on-of-my-origin-standard/hope this was helpful and sorry if i missunderstud your post or i i was not helpful

This is my elf deck that I have taken 5-0 at FNM twice, 4-1 at this last gameday at an above average competitive store.

Your two worst matchups are RWx midrange decks, so it's no wonder why you didn't do so well. Anything that can burn your stuff while having threats of its own is super difficult to deal with unless it's mono red where the threats are 2/2s.

Aside from those, you have great matchups against all tier one decks in the format. Tutelage, Abzan, GR Devotion, Mono red, Ensoulathopter, and Esper decks are all easy pickings for you. There's really no dealing with Mardu Midrange though, you just have to hope that they stumble.

I'd be careful about adding removal. Elves is a very proactive deck, and you don't want to delay your Collected Company with a Hero's Downfall.
