Faster G/R Dragons

Standard Deck Help forum

Played my deck in two tournaments and keep getting squashed by G/W and R aggro decks. I cannot get the Atarkas out in time or do sufficient damage with my creatures. What cards should I add against aggro decks?

I took out most of the burn spells such as Crater's Claws, Twin Bolt, and Roast for creatures.

For getting more creatures on the board, I put in 2 Flameshadow Conjuring.

For ramp up, I have 4 Rattleclaw Mystic, 4 Leaf Gilder, and 2 Xenagos, the Reveler.

Thanks!

I play r/g dragons myself, and I know how you feel. First off, leaf gilder is way too slow in the meta and will probably stay that way. Elvish Mystic is 100% better. I would put some Anger of the Gods in as well to slow down red players. At least keep your Crater's Claws and Roast in your sideboard in case you play against some bigger creatures.

Just took out the leaf gilder and put in Whisperer of the Wilds instead. Anger of the Gods would kill all my mana dorks, so I need another way of wiping out my opponents board.

I love my RG dragons deck, but its gotten eaten a few times in tournaments, so I keep it more casual. For dorks I have a full set of Elvish Mystics and Sylvan Caryatids as well as three Courser of Kruphixs. Flamewake Phoenixes are in as honorary dragons. The real dragons are Thunderbreak Regents and Stormbreath Dragons and just a couple Dragonlord Atarkas. A couple of Outpost Sieges serve to speed up draw. Unfortunately, a fair number of cards are due to rotate soon, so this deck will be really casual soon.

Better mana dorks in BFZ might keep RG dragons on life support, but I'm not that hopeful.

Yeah a lot are rotating out soon. The first three you mentioned and Stormbreath Dragon are not included because of that.

I added more burn and that helped against the aggro decks. I lasted past turn 5, but took too much damage to keep up later.

If I want to keep playing this, I need to update the sideboard. I am thinking about more Destructive Revelry for control/mill and Rending Volley for aggro.

I think I might mulch the lot and build into the new Omnath
