Getting back into it. Cheap deck suggestions?

Standard Deck Help forum

I haven't played since Shards of Alara and i want to get back into it. My FNM place only does standard and sealed stuff so I can't really mess with modern or commander. Does anyone have any suggestions for decks i could use to get back into it (ones that won't cycle out in two months)??

you could buy a box of origins and start building elf deck, you should have most of what you would want just from that and some spare trades to get more of the rares for it.

Mono black aggro, very competitive and dirt cheap, not much is rotating out in October and there will be more to add. Check out Tolarian Community College on YouTube for a primer

Khans has a lot of value you can use for some time to come. Be prepared to drop money on BFZ when it comes out in September. Right now, the cheapest deck you can play is RDW.

There are a ton of mono black cheap suggestions. Bloodsoaked Champion, Mardu Shadowspear and Despoiler of Souls are all great and they won't rotate out when BFZ comes out.

Edit: You could also splash red to add cards like Monastery Swiftspear, Lightning Berserker, and Goblin Glory Chaser. Kolaghan's Command is nice, even though it spiked over the past few months.

I'd play mono-red aggro. Play a bunch of cheap goblins and gob people to death.

I play a UR Counterburn control deck that costs about $100. Only value in it will likely hold post rotation as well (an Ugin, 4 Dig Through Times and a Keranos). Lot of fun to play if you want some confused opponents and enjoy control.

I'll link the deck if you're interested.

My deck which won me first place at GPTQ currently costs about $40-$50.

Here is Blue Steel.

I also took second place at a GPTQ a few months ago with a $25 deck.

Here is Fire Brigade ver. 2.0.

While both of these decks will be Standard legal until battle for Zendikar is released, neither will be Standard legal afterward. While your local metagame may vary, the typical Standard metagame is loaded with expensive midrange decks, which the two decks above are tuned to chew up and spit out.

You could also just buy whatever you want and try the gamefindr app, which would connect you with people in your area that play.
