HEY!
I am a veteran modern player, and wanted to get into standard. with the rotation just finished, i wanted to know where a good place to start would be.
Any And all help is appreciated
Delta-117, thanks for your help! do you know of any budget standard decks that i could use? grixis control is really expensive.

Yeah I wasn't exactly sure how much you were willing to spend so Grixis control may not be the best currently then.
Well how about some sort of ramp deck? Whether it be mono green or G/R ramp.
Here is a Blue/Black Eldrazi deck you might like:
Blue/Black Eldrazi Attack ($15 Budget)
This above one is by far the cheapest one I would say, so keep this one in mind. As its a good deck.
Here is another deck, I actually know someone at my local game store where I go for Friday night magic that uses a deck like this. Although he doesn't use Sylvan Advocate or Chandra, Flamecaller which if you were to do as well would save you a lot of money.

Then if you really want to spend less, I guess you could find some kind of alternative creature like Desolation Twin or Bane of Bala Ged for the World Breakers and or Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hungers?
Instead of the sylvan advocates you could use Jaddi Offshoots? The person I was referring too before also uses them instead.
Kozilek's Return can be substituted for Rolling Thunder, there's other red cards that fill a similar role although I can't think of specific names currently. Although it takes away from the decks synergy, to cut these out, but it still can be done.
Here is another ramp deck I found that is even further cheaper.

You could also try aggro vampires. Which can be built fairly cheaply. Here a 2 examples:

Now here is yet another deck you could try:

Unfortunately some of the cards go out of rotation for it at the end of September so you may want to find a deck that uses more of Gatewatch to Eldritch Moon cards so you can play it in standard longer. I have a deck shared belie which is an interesting idea similar to this one, that can also be in standard longer.
I know it's expensive at first glance but that's because of Collected Company. You could try a deck like this if you cut them out for a few more creatures or a few cards like Altar's Reap? Then you could get by without the Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet. It's such a good card but it is rather costly, I myself only have a copy of 1 in the first place since I was lucky at Friday night magic to open 2 expedition lands in a draft which I traded one for the Kalitas and 2 other cards.
I actually run a deck like this one that has lots of little creatures but instead they are used to get out things like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger using Cryptolith Rite which is a great card.
Here it is actually, I have all the actual cards for it except for the World Breakers. It's still a work in progress since the new set Eldritch moon gave me many more cards to work with and to consider for a deck that still was previously a work in progress.

I built the deck actually almost entirely through trades and from 2 prereleases at one point or another. Now I'm just going to have to buy the last few things. Through play testing I can either get Ulamog or ormendahl out as soon as turn 6 if I'm lucky. Although the deck is pretty weak to Declaration in Stone unfortunately. I'm going to give Distended Mindbender a try in it since I now have 3 of those.
I know of an excellent budget mono green deck but I can't quite seem to find it under recent decks I looked at... If I come across it again I will share it here. It's going to annoy me until I find it probably.
Now I'm running out of time, so I better stop. What I have said is probably a little overkill and is going to take you long enough to read anyways. I hope something in here is of use to you and helps you decide on a deck as it certainly took a while!

Let me actually apologize for so many links, I should have triedto make it better/easier to read.

Thank you, Delta-117, and Censuring for your help! In terms of strategies i might want to go after, is there any way to cheat creatures out like a Polymorph deck? how about lockdown combos? I mean, I don't mind if there isn't, but i would jump at those decks if i could do them in standard. I need something fun to play, so I don't get bored.
(and Delta-117, don't apologize for the links, they were really helpful!)

I can't think of anything that would be like a Polymorph deck, the only thing that immediately comes to mind is cards like Evolutionary Leap and Eldritch Evolution? Nothing but these comes any closer I'm pretty sure. However there's Nahiri, the Harbinger which I just thought of now actually. Although it's a little expensive at the moment ever since people began to use her ultimate for Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger in standard and the former Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in modern. Cryptolith Rite can be used to great effect in a ramp deck that has Eldrazi scions since they can be tapped for one mana of any color and then sacrificed for 1 Colorless mana.
There's also the new emerge mechanic from Eldritch Moon, you can sacrifice something like Foul Emissary towards a card like Decimator of the Provinces or Distended Mindbender. You can include Eldritch Evolution in a deck like this. You could have something like a Matter Reshaper and sacrifice to Eldritch Evolution for a Thought-Knot Seer and then sacrifice it towards Distended Mindbender to cast easier which further could get you an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger?
As for lockdown I don't there exists any such combos. There's the new Thalia card which can be used for something like this. Thalia, Heretic Cathar. Although you could try making some sort of control deck maybe though with things like Imprisoned in the Moon, Mind's Dilation, Blessed Alliance, Silkwrap, Lunar Force, Choking Restraints, Stasis Snare, Quarantine Field, Starfield of Nyx. Then of course there's the new meld card Brisela, Voice of Nightmares. This card you need to have both Gisela, the Broken Blade, and Bruna, the Fading Light out on the field. There's Archangel of Tithes although it won't be in standard much longer.
I hope some of this is useful as I'm still rather new to modern, I have only been playing it for about 6 months. First with a borrowed mono green stompy deck, then I started a budget infect deck and a mono blue tron deck. They both are still a work in progress. So these ideas are the best I can think of currently as I'm still not familiar with all of the modern format.

Depends on what color deck and strategy you might prefer to try. It depends if you really want an aggro deck, control etc.
This website should give you an idea of decks you will come across.
http://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/standard#online
Here is another one too: http://www.mtgdecks.net/formats/view/Standard
From here you probably can see that most of the commonly played cards are unfortunately just in green/white.
Some of the most commonly used cards include: Declaration in Stone, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, Sylvan Advocate, Archangel Avacyn Flip, Tireless Tracker, Thalia's Lieutenant, Reflector Mage, Collected Company, Dromoka's Command, and Duskwatch Recruiter Flip.
Outside of those colors cards like Languish, Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip, Planar Outburst, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Ruinous Path, Grasp of Darkness, and Ultimate Price are popular choices for many control decks.
I myself don't like using what's generally the most popular decks and I myself use Red/Black Vampires with cards like Olivia, Mobilized for War, Drana, Liberator of Malakir, Falkenrath Gorger, Asylum Visitor and a mono blue control deck using Sphinx's Tutelage, and Thing in the Ice Flip.
A deck I would suggest is Grixis control if your looking for access to an amazing amount of removal, with cards like Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip, Goblin Dark-Dwellers, Grasp of Darkness, Languish, and Chandra, Flamecaller.
A great example of this deck would be by the user EastsideRock. Which you should give a look if you want to get into standard with a deck like this.

However the first website I shared here will tell you what is most commonly used if your wishing to use a more popular deck choice.
I hope some of this helps, I myself have only started with standard sometime between Battle for Zendikar to Oath of the Gatewatch.
