Card Star of Extinction.

This is prime example of the things I like to do in standard. I like brewing and attacking the meta in different ways. Im not very competitive when it comes to standard but I tend to do well anyways.

So here it is. Help me find the best shell for Star of Extinction. I was thinking a UW Approach shell spashing red for Star. But there isn't much ramp in Jeskai. However we do have access to Baral, Chief of Compliance and Cultivator's Caravan . and the newly spoiled Primal Amulet. Im not sure if its good enough though. I want to ramp into star. Opinions on Jeskai Approach?

Outside of Jeskai i think Naya maybe a decent shell? We get Hour of Promise and Spring to Mind, etc. But the colors won't allow us to dig for Approach as quickly as jeskai would.

Or temur?? Win cons would be Locust God and other fatties?

Im just brewing around currently but this is definatley a card i see myself casting a lot in the next year and a half or so.

Try mardu. Cut / Ribbons and Torment of Hailfire are both great win conditions. Red brings Shock Abrade white has Authority of the Consuls and Cast Out black bring Fatal Push Painful Lesson Diabolic Tutor

You're not going to be splashing red for Star because it's double red, that just won't work. It's more likely if you want to play Jeskai with Star and Approach that you'll splash white since Approach is only one white.

I think Gruul or Temur, splash of blue, is a better shell for Star because you get green 2 drop ramp and Hour of Promise which as land ramp alone can almost get you seven mana. With more focus on green you could include Ripjaw Raptor who can defend until you get Star as well as help to draw into Star from enrage. Ripjaw does die to Star, but he gives you some value from enrage when it does. With the way Ripjaw's enrage is worded I'm pretty sure you would only draw one card from the damage dealt to it from Star since the damage is all at once from one source. If I'm wrong then you're drawing 20 cards, one for each damage dealt to Ripjaw and if that's the case we just broke the format, haha.

I personally think jeskai control would be the best shell. People keep brining up the fact that jeskai has no ramp, but it really doesn't need it, Amulet and baral are enough, its control. The goal isn't to play fast it is to stop your opponent from doing so. That said, I think star of extinction will be underwhelming against any deck that isn't running the naya T. rex as the main wincon or running a token build. Unless superfriends becomes big, then it will be helpful too.
