Help us build a Coco deck?

Standard Deck Help forum

One of my friends has 4 Collected Companys and wants to play standard again. What should we try building for him?

Edit we tried building him a Jeskai prowess deck a month ago so we were thinking about maybe Temur Coco or something like that.

Edit edit Here's what we put together last night

I'd start with Bant Company, although some of the pieces are rotating out soon. But you'll still have Reflector Mage, Den Protector, Deathmist Raptor, and Eldrazi Skyspawner.

if you're going bant, Sylvan Advocate is great. Though I kind of like the idea of a jund or naya variant, something that would allow easy access to Atarka's Command as well. CoCo tends to go wide and A command helps you push through damage to close a game. Maybe temur is correct, or even 4 color where red is just splashed. In any case, it's much much easier to help deck construction if you throw together some kind of extremely rough list and then have people help tweak it rather than have people build the list for you.

I wasn't asking for everyone to build the list for us. Just recommendations of what they know that works well in CoCo decks. @JWiley: Not doing bant Coco because what goes in the Bant shell we have very little of. Especially the lands that are needed to run it smoothly. (Collectively we only have 3 Canopy Vistas, 1 Windswept Heath, and 3 Reflector Mages). @asasinater: We are considering Atarka's Command. I personally love the card and I play it in most decks using those colors. As for Advocate, I've tried throwing it in decks without playing the mainlands and I don't feel that it's a worthwhile investment without them. I'll continue to see if Advocate is worth putting in this and I'll confer with him, but my initial vote is nay. Thanks for the responses!

just add the R/W manland (or the U/G, depending on where the deck goes. I htink R/W for naya is better. Maybe R/U if you do temur). that card is great and double strike with the buff would be amazing. 2 mana 4/5s are also pretty good.

Abzan Beastmaster won't be in standard for long at all, but I played him in an abzan coco list a while back and he performed very well for me.

deifnitely run Den Protector and Deathmist Raptor to start. Undergrowth Champion is worth considering but I doubt good enough. Firemantle Mage could be interesting if you have another ally or two as a one or two-of for evasion. I could see Naya Coco allies existing, Lantern Scout, Firemantle Mage, Sylvan Advocate, Reckless Bushwhacker. the good news about allies in bfz is that yo udon't have to dedicate to all allies, so running a few that trigger rally and then the rest of hte best creatures for your deck is plenty. especially if you're digging into them with Coco. Veteran Warleader is pretty solid if you're going wide. then you can have Gideon, Ally of Zendikar both because he wins games on his own and he has amazing synergy.

See, he was playing Abzan Allies before the Jeskai deck, which is why he bought the Coco's in the first place.
That being said, yes Gideon wins games but at the same time, CoCo often throws him to the bottom of the deck. That being said, Nissa, Voice of Zendikar is cheaper, both CMC-wise and monetarily but also has potential to come out a turn before CoCo and also wins games. Which is why I went with her.
Undergrowth isn't worth it, Bushwhacker is clunky (I'm playing Jund Tokens and I've slowly went from a playset to 2 mainboard), and so are the mainlands which is why I was trying to steer away from them in the first place. We'll look into going Naya though.

I think coco putting gideon on the bottom is a terrible argument against running him. As long as you're still around 24-28 creatures to be reliably not whiffing you're in the clear. I just don't see what blue offers you to coco into. Nissa is cool but doesn't have other little synergies within the deck like gideon does, and can't just gear up to be a big/big attacking either. she is no where near as efficient a threat as gideon is. You'll have your deck filled with 3cmc less creatures, you'll not be wanting for a 3 drop to fill your curve. Ideally you only have 4 coco, 2 gideon, maybe 3 atarka's command as your non-coco targets mainboard, with around 23-24 lands, leaving you room for 27-28 targets for your companies. I could see an argument for swapping out 2 atarka's command for two Dromoka's Command for removal spells mainboard, or maybe just two Valorous Stance. I don't know whethe the reach or removal would be more relevant to you. probably depends on the meta.
