Homebrew Jeskai Burn

Standard Deck Help forum

Posted on June 16, 2015, 12:18 p.m. by Bellock86

Been out of standard for a bit and was going through my binder when I stumbled across Satyr Firedancer and had a random moment of inspiration thinking "this could be interesting".

The main premise of the deck is to burn out my opponent of course but with Satyr Firedancer I can simultaneously get board control as well. Bigger creatures like Siege Rhino will obviously be trouble for me so I want some counters too for things I can't deal with like rhino.

Spellheart Chimera is just a goofy beater that fits since I'll be loaded on spells pretty quick.

Soulfire Grand Master is a way to get back life that I will lose setting up and paying for my spells.

I feel like the sideboard will need to have an almost transitional effect into a more controlling shell for decks that burn isn't as effective against. No clue where to start there.

Need help with the side and also with how much/which burn to run as well as counters.

I have no idea if this has already been tried but I feel like it could at least be T2 if not 1.5 with enough work.

Dalektable, ChiefBell and Spootyone your insights would be much appreciated as well as ANYONE with something to add or critiques to give.

Thanks,

Bellock

For this kind of strategy, I'd default to the Deflecting Palm + Dictate of the Twin Gods or any number of burn spells plan. I admit that it's a rather slow deck with several weaknesses, but it is hella fun to play.

My friend plays a deck similar to what you are referring to, I believe. In the current standard, I don't believe Jeskai is optimal but at an FNM level it would be a fun deck that you'll do fine with. The Satyr Firedancer and Soulfire Grand Master "combo" is a nasty one, but don't bank to hard on the firedancer. It's a fun card, but it requires other cards to be good. But basically, the deck you have in mind sounds like what a current iteration of Jeskai Burn/wins would look like. It was tier one beginning of this standard, but it is now nonexistant. Basically throw in 16-20 burn spells, some Dig Through Time Mantis Rider and the aftermentioned cards you should have a deck.

ChiefBell ~ sorry bro. Forgot you're my modern expert. Lol

Dalektable ~ completely forgot to throw my list in here. See below. Thanks for the tips.

KillDatBUG ~ I have seen that deck in my research but wanted to steer clear of it for 2 reasons. 1) it's slower as you mentioned but 2) it's already a thing. People have seen it and while they may not have great cards to board against me specifically, they will have played against it (most likely) and thus will have some idea of how to play around me. I want to catch them off guard at least for game one.

Here's my deck list i put together last night
