How to sideboard G/R Marvel

Standard Deck Help forum

I have found that the marvel deck hardly needs to sideboard against G/B delirium, but even with the addition of Ishkanah, Grafwidow it still has trouble against U/W Flash. In my experience, game two the U/W player typically sides out 4 Reflector Mage and 4 Selfless Spirit replacing them with a mix of Ceremonious Rejection, [[fragmentize], Summary Dismissal, Void Shatter, and Negate.

To fight this, I have found removing:

-4 Woodweaver's Puzzleknot as they usually get countered or Aetherworks Marvel gets countered and this is a dead card.

-2 eldrazi (I run 2 of both Emrakul, the Promised End and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and remove both ulamog.)

-2 Chandra, Flamecaller as she rarely does anything, usually she will -X to try and wipe their board only to have Archangel Avacyn  Flip flash in and waste the turn.

Replacing with

+3 Tears of Valakut for Spell Queller (note another Spell Queller can exile this. It is used to kill ones that are out to get back spells.)

+3 Tireless Tracker as they generally have removed Reflector Mage and will want to save their counters for bigger threats.

+2 Natural State to get rid of Stasis Snare.

Against Vehicles nothing much needed to be changed. Woodweaver's Puzzleknot gives you enough life to live through their rush and push into a Aetherworks Marvel

-2 Tormenting Voice You don't have time to tap out without doing anything

+2 Appetite for the Unnatural Destroying a Smuggler's Copter and gaining life really helps you pull ahead.

Against Temur Aetherworks or the mirror.

-4 Harnessed Lightning since theres nothing to hit.

-1 Tormenting Voice hopefully replaced with Chandra, Torch of Defiance for a better draw engine.

+1 Chandra, Torch of Defiance

+2 Appetite for the Unnatural for their Aetherworks Marvel

+1 World Breaker adds another hit to Aetherworks Marvel and destroys the opponents.

+1 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger or Nissa, Vital Force depending on your sideboard.

What has anyone else done with G/R marvel sideboard?

LordZeo,
What decklist are you talking about? JABERWOCKI's from MTGO, or one of the earlier ones?

Also in case you weren't aware: SBdemon has a good look at how Matt Nass sideboarded his Temur Marvel at Pro Tour Kaladesh here.

I was talking about jaberwocki's list from mtgo, though in my list I ran Chandra, Flamecaller instead of Kozilek's Return.

Woodweaver's Puzzleknot is never a dead card. A singleton grants you 6 energy in an instant, so you don't have to worry about a scenario, in which you've manage to outwit your control-opponent and installed Marvell in the field with no fuel to start it. Opponent counters Puzzleknot? That's great! One counterspell less for one of your 4 chances of getting Marvel into field.

I totally agree with Tears of Valakut, I run 4x this card myself in the sideboard. I'd suggest also Incendiary Sabotage and Demon of Dark Schemes as they destroy zombies and spirits marvellously. Also try some Sphinx of the Final Word against control. It can be a stand-alone win con in the late game if it goes all about disrupting your play. No matter you're running GR version, I'm sure there are some Aether Hub in there if you'd have to cast it hard ;)

Also you can consider at least a copy of Sequestered Stash in the mainboard (if it's not already there) in case Marvel get's Negated and you have to wait for your opponent to tappout when he's sure he had countered your win-con for good.

Chandra instead of Kozilek's Return? I wouldn't recommend it. Even when countered, it's still a threat to spirits while in graveyard. And even if your eldrazi titan get's countered while emerging from Marvel, you have uncounterable boardwipe. Sure, it's not a perfect solution (Selfless Spirit can happen or you can be just dead already, while spirits are pretty fast shitty-agro of 2/1 nasty bastards), but nothing ever is, isn't it? :)
