Investigate in standard?
Standard Deck Help forum

SOI has been out nearly a month, I had this idea or a standard brew ever since it came out. It basically uses investigate to cheat in large eldrazi with the tamiyo's journal + briar bridge patrol, is this competitive at fnm, or should i look elsewhere for something competitve in an fnm. environment
Other deck ideas i have are GW or a GR ramp deck
Investigate is a tough mechanic to get to roll against a lot of decks, because it can be mana intensive. Say, for example, with Tamiyo's Journal it costs to begin with, then to investigate costs 2 per, or three turns (with no other way to get clues out) to tutor. With Briarbridge Patrol you get the bonus of cheating a creature out, but it could be every second turn (at best) should it survive that long. You'd have to build around that combo, with support cards that deal non-combat damage, like Dromoka's Command to protect the Briarbridge Patrol. It is, I think, fragile at best, but some might see it as viable. It depends on your meta I guess.

Ive been trying to whip up something but Ive been trying different creature other than Ulumag and Kozilek because people can just exile them. you can also kinda buff up creature with Confront the Unknown Right now im trying big hexproof baddies like Plated Crusher and Sphinx of the Final Word so they cannot be targeted onch they are out on the field
My main problem is that my start game is slow as butts....once I get some things on the board im rolling but most decks can beat me out of the gate and keep me behind

I have seen this style of deck G/W, and it is decent. A bit combo oriented but if you have no way to deal with the pieces it can get quiet out of hand. This coupled with a Humans/Token/Investigate theme the Clues were flowing like crazy. Tutor targets were Archangel Avacyn Flip, Sigarda, Heron's Grace, and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. It made the top 8 for Game Day. Oh and to top it all off, Westvale Abbey Flip was there too (easy to forget about until they sac for it)
*EDIT: Forgot to mention Tamiyo's Journal was one of those 'Pieces' I was talking about as is Briarbridge Patrol

might be more viable as a turbofog deck buuuuuut i dont think we currently have many good, efficient fog effects in standard right now.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. The reason I asked was some of the weaknesses of the deck really stood out to me. However, to help even things, I used Cryptolith Rite to help with acceleration and at times was able to hard-cast large Eldrazi. I think I'll switch gears and go the selesnya (or bant) route vs the simic route as it sounds more competitive and just as fun, I already have ideas to accelerate mana in that case.

I say give it a try, but remember that most of the big eldrazi (including Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and Kozilek, the Great Distortion) trigger upon being cast, not entering the battlefield.
