Is Temple Altisaur OP?

Standard Deck Help forum

Just like the subject asks. Do you think the Temple Altisaur is OP?

I like the idea of running him as the 5 drop in an enrage deck.

It allows you to swing away with any enrage dinos you cast prior and force bad blocks and gives you a chance at more enrage triggers as a result.

OP no but in the right deck I think it really shines. If you are playing it right you are playing cards on turn 2, 3 and 4 that should all warrant a kill spell if you opponent has them. Making this guy easier to stick. He also completely negates any sort or red removal. I already put one in my red white dino's sideboard for RDW matchups.

I would say no. If it didn't say "another" dinosaur, then it would be pretty OP. I don't play much standard, so I can't be too sure, but I would think going the enrage dino route with this guy would just dilute the game plan and not bring that much to the table since those decks tend to run cards that only deal 1 damage anyways. But what are your thoughts? Any combos or tricks you were thinking about specifically that might change my mind?

I like temple altisaur but trapjaw tyrant is also an enrage white five drop. I really like what wizards did with the enrage mechanic in Rivals of Ixalan

I think no.

The new Reckless Rage straight out kills it, and Ghalta, Primal Hunger Tramples over all its little mates.

Argy sure Ghalta tramples over them after he deals as much damage as they can take and they only take 1 damage so most if not all will not die. 4 3/3's would kill it and they wouldn't die. So the 12/12 deals no damage to the player and all 3/3s are still alive.

Supersaulty having 4 3/3 dinos and a 5 cmc altisaur seems pretty unlikely. Also keep in mind that if your opponent has ghalta on the battlefield, they almost certainly have 1 or 2 other big guys out there as well. I think the problem with Temple Altisaur is that it is almost too little too late. It can't protect itself and does nothing in the face of "destroy" or "exile" effects. For the 5-drop, I personally would rather have Raging Swordtooth, Regisaur Alpha, Trapjaw Tyrant, hell, even Charging Monstrosaur and Snapping Sailback in the right deck seem better than the altisaur in my opinion.

skoobysnackz you either read the scenario wrong or i wrote it wrong... Guy with altisaur is the one with Ghalta and the 4 3/3s does not belong to the altisaur and ghalta owner...

You wrote it wrong.

I know have no idea what point you were trying to make.

Temple Altisaur can also be stamped out of existence with Savage Stomp or Prey Upon.

Makes combat math tough in Limited, but it requires a lot to be good, you have to have a lot of other good creatures to make it work. OP cards tend to be that when they are good on their own. I would rate altisaur as a superb limited card that is good but not incredible and a poor card for constructed, as it sucks on its own.

only game winning when you already have enough creatures to win the game.
