Liliana, Death's Majesty + Razaketh in Standard?

Standard Deck Help forum

I'm doing my best to restrain myself from brewing until all the spoilers are released, but I'm so fascinated by Razaketh, the Foulblooded + my second-favorite Standard planeswalker, Liliana, Death's Majesty. She can reanimate him for a t4/t5 8/8 Flample (Trying?) creature and feed him zombies to tutor up toolbox cards.

What do you think the best and most competitive shell would be for that interaction? (Not that it has to be PT-level.)

Possible shells:

What do y'all think? :)

Delta-117 I was thinking about that originally since offers good discard and toolbox cards, but I feel like the deck will want to play like a midrange deck rather than controll-y in order to put out pressure early and so Liliana doesn't immediately get removed by combat and Razaketh doesn't eat a blanked removal spell. I don't feel like it will want counterspells.

I do REALLY like Drake Haven here though, since the deck should have some kind of discard or self-mill to operate and it makes tokens to feed the demon, and Collective Brutality is a very good option, especially for the sideboard. But no one has been able to put Drake Haven in a great shell yet, especially one other than pure control so I wonder how that would look. It would be sick to get to include Archfiend of Ifnir in the board, too. I wonder if there's a solid deck engine for discarding cards in x midrange.

What about B/G using G to ramp so you can maybe T3-4 Lili + Raz? Cryptolith Rite + zombie tokens provided by the Cryptbreaker... Sure there's other stuff you could toss in the mix.

Yeah was my other thought as well. Use some of the above mentioned stuff, but also something like Channeler Initiate to get Liliana, Death's Majesty out possibly sooner.

Then this might be a bit unsual, but keep an eye on Gate to the Afterlife. It might turn up to be more useful, and it does afterall give another discard outlet.

I would put Razaketh in a deck like this

Thanks for the input!

Mj3913 I am terrible at thinking about tokens builds, especially with Cryptolith Rite, but I believe that that could be powerful. I don't know that there's a way to ramp into Lili t3 with any combination of standard cards, but I think t4 Lili into Razaketh is probably gamebreaking. I don't know how to make that consistent, though.

Delta-117 I don't have much hope for Gate, but thanks for bringing it up. Hazoret's Monument does a similar thing which is interesting...

jparker-sartori21 Yeah that's what I was thinking too! I'll have to tinker around with a list. I don't know that Reanimating a dude can be consistent enough for standard, though. I feel like the deck might have to have a solid midrange backup plan.

I threw together a list here:

Control being a misnomer since it has a good midgame like all B/W lists, but it can win with Brisela, regular beatdown, or Approach of the Second Sun which is instantly tutorable with Raza... What do you all think? This is my idea for a kind of toolbox build. I'm also going to throw together a prototype for GB midrange/value and Mardu reanimator.

abby315 I Came up with a G/B theoretical build real quick. Could maybe even make it more toolboxish, or splash white? I'll let you decide.

G/B Lili/Raz
