Make Mill Great Again

Standard Deck Help forum

At my local FNM there is one guy that is playing a fairly well brewed U/W mill deck and I'm tempted to join him in his quest to "make mill great again", but I don't want to just copy and paste his build and I would like to do something a little different than what mill builds I have seen ie. clue mill or Grixis mill.

My main thoughts as of right now are on a similar premise as the Grixis mill using Startled Awake  Flip and Geistblast along side Manic Scribe and minister of of inquiries for the main mill staples. But I'm leaning towards using a splash of green for cards like Rashmi, Eternities Crafter (as she can provide psuedo-cascade or at least card draw), Attune with Aether for land and more of the energy needed to fuel Minister of Inquiries and lastly possibly a few Commencement of Festivities to keep away all the damage presented by an agro deck.

Lastly, a few artifacts may be handy like, Brain in a Jar semi-free spells, Prophetic Prism to keep away any problems with not getting the correct color land and card draw, and either Glassblower's Puzzleknot or Woodweaver's Puzzleknot to help get delerium for Manic Scribe and generate more energy for Minister of Inquiries

Also, as an edit, I could see come potential utility in putting in a few Dramatic reversal

Forgot to put in the main body that this is nowhere near complete and has not been built much less play tested and any ideas, recommendations, or criticisms would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced!

I brewed a UG Mill with Clues deck, revolving around Fleeting Memories ( and Manic Scribe ) and played it once at my local store for Standard Showdown, but it performed quite poorly. Often because of a bad hands or lack of clues, or just not drawing the card I needed to mill : https://deckstats.net/decks/74071/597256-clue-scribe-mill

I was quite disappointed because I spent a lot of time building and adjusting this deck..

Unfortunately mill can hardly aim for great results. It sets for itself the goal to mill 60 cards whereas all the others have the goal to remove 20 life, that means it sets for itself a goal three times harder and with 1/50th of the cards...

I can see a RUG mill deck or just an izzet mill deck for your standard means but what did you need black for grixis? Ill see if I can brew a sample deck (no sideboard) to see if I can mimic a product and tell me if it matches your needs.

Chaosumbreon87 what I meant about a grixis mill was that I've seen a YouTube video or two on builds that use grixis, I think mainly to pick up Unlicensed Disintegration. And that build has some solid ideas that I may pull from the only concern I really had was that only one creature was listed when some creatures can help progress the mill fairly efficiently.

My problem is that not many creatures in standard at the moment, help mill. Grixis does not appeal to me for that reason but it may work for you. Feel free to use the deck provided to give you a template or something. Its fairly control oriented so burn heavy. May add in counterspells if I ever come back to this deck.
