Mono-Red

Standard Deck Help forum

Posted on April 24, 2017, 11:59 p.m. by rmyancey

I'm wanting to get back into playing standard and I thought (as a dirty aggro-player) that bloodrage brawler and Hazoret the Fervent would be fun to brew around. I'm very unfamiliar with the current meta however. Can you guys help me brew a competitive red deck? Also not opposed to going with a r/b madness varient or a r/g beatdown. Please help!

Check out Argeaux's Amonkhet Minotaurs deck. It doesn't have the god card in it but may give you some ideas. It's a pretty badass deck.

Edit: also very budget friendly!

You might really enjoy Mono-Red Aggro In Amonkhet.

It's very Aggro, has Hazoret the Fervent, and plays well in my tests with it.

It struggles against Control, but all Aggro decks do.

Be aware that my Amonkhet Minotaurs deck has yet to be played at Tournament. It will be next week, but the meta won't settle down until after the Pro Tour.

I expect it to do well early on, but not so much after the Pros have done their thing.

That's true but it seems like a cheap build to get my foot back in the door and start playing somewhat competitive again. I like the build you shared although I'm not sure I like having that many non-creature spells. I do love the lightning axes as I hadn't even thought/considered them. Any reason this deck doesn't run shocks even in sideboard? It still looks really solid and fun so I'll probably proxy it out and play test it. Thank you!

Now I'm assuming the Fiery Temper is your burn in this deck and hopefully triggered from discarding. Guess I shouldn't type and read at the same time lol.

People are leaning more towards running Magma Spray than Shock at the moment for one reason.

Scrapheap Scrounger

If you had played during the last two Seasons you'd know how frustrating it is to have that thing come back from the Graveyard over and over and over.

Magma Spray takes care of that.
