Need Help with Land Base :)

Standard Deck Help forum

I am always terrible at the land part of building decks. I either add too much, too little, or just have an unbalance that would make people cry. I am in production of a Mardu Standard deck and need suggestions on land.

The deck is basically aggro and each color is perfectly balanced, so balancing lands shouldn't be too hard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Note: This deck is built for post rotation, so stuff like Thoughtseize and Anger of the Gods is not in there for that reason.

If you run six of each in basics and have 7 basics like fetch lands or temples

Just making sure that you realise that rotation isn't until October, right?

@Sultaimaster68 This is a 3 colored deck, so I probably should be adding fetches and stuff, but I'm never sure on how many to make a good enough balance for fetches to usable lands.

@Named_Tawyny I do realize that yes. I haven't been playing lately because of the expensive stuff that I need that I can never afford. I usually have been going to drafts to get cards, but lately I haven't been able to save enough money to actually get everything I need. So I might just save up and preorder a couple boxes or something so I don't have to buy stuff individually.

SirFowler: Buying singles is always more efficient than buying boxes if you are looking to add to a particular deck. I advise against buying boxes unless you are going to draft with the packs.

You have a good start with your land, but I'd also add 2 each of Caves of Koilos and Battlefield Forge at the expense of some basics. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would be great here too (as a 1-of). You have 1-drop creatures in each color so you need as much fast fixing as possible.

I don't think you have enough noncreature spells to run Myth Realized effectively. I'd replace it with some burn such as Lightning Strike. Damnable Pact also seems out of place as a deck like this needs to win early rather than play the late game. I'd drop it for more burn (Stoke the Flames, Wild Slash, more Lightning Strike, etc).

A few Duress in your sideboard would go a long way, especially if you don't want to buy Thoughtseize. Mardu Charm and Roast would be good too.

I'd also go up to 4 Crackling Doom. Always run 4 Crackling Doom in Mardu decks.
