Preparing for Grand Prix DC
Standard Deck Help forum

So I'm working towards preparing for Washington DC main event. My best guess is that around that time midrange decks will have taken over to combat the Mono-Red that's running around. So in anticipation for that, I'm trying to metagame a little bit. I'm thinking of building UW monument with a couple of tweaks. Am I close or way off base with this?

I agree, I want a deck with a good RDW matchup, but I have a feeling where standard has reached a point where it is actually going to "rotate" which deck is best based on what the deck of the moment is, which is why I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of Mono B Zombies and GB Snek at DC because those deck overperform against the RDW deck.
The main card that I'm worried about anyways is Abrade, which I think I'm going to have to accept the fact that this deck is just weak to; which is why I wanted to add in Elder Deep-Fiend because it's a late game beater that doesn't require you to go wide and matches up well against Hazoret the Fervent.

Looks like a pretty fine monument list to me, but I don't think you should bring a deck that won't do well against RDW. I can't tell how this does against it--I know you don't care that much about chumping with your creatures--but I know the removal is slow and the engine takes a couple of turns to get rolling.
I'd suggest test that matchup and make sure it's at LEAST 50/50 or, with a bad game one, like 60/40 post board. If not, I'd look into mono B zombies. That deck does well against RDW and typically preys on a lot of midrange builds if they're not boarding for it.
I expect a lot of GPDC to be RDW, zombies, GB snake, and ramp, with maybe a surprise reanimator or emerge style delirium list doing well.
