Removal spell needed

Standard Deck Help forum

I'm not sure what the spell I need is, except I need something that makes me hexproof for the meta I am in. One guy has a card that renders this Counter Surge Modded MTGoldfish useless. His card (I cant remember name) states that no counters can be played. I assume any hexproof spell will work, but anything specific to remove that one card or threats to my counters? Please card should be under $2.00 and preferably under a dollar.

Was the card Solemnity? If so, Hexproof wont do anything for you, but you need some kind of enchantment removal. What you have in the sideboard should be fine, but there is Broken Bond which is cheaper mana wise.

simply go to the gatherer and you can easily find enchantment removal to take care of Solemnity. giving yourself hexproof though won't help because Solemnity doesn't target you.

You can put Ixalan's Binding on the Solemnity, and then your Opponent can't cast another copy.

Raysracing you said "he", not dude.

He is male.

Females play Magic too. Don't hide our gender.

Another option to consider is Thrashing Brontodon. While it is a bit slower than the other removal options listed, you can play it around the same time as Solemnity and it provides a decent body and some deterrence in the meanwhile.

Argy: Normally I'd agree with you on the importance of proper pronoun uses, but, in this case, you are in the wrong. The original post makes a very clear reference to a specific player in Raysracing's meta. As the gender of the individual is a known fact, it is appropriate to use a gendered pronoun when referring to him.

I am just learning the game and I tend to lose important cards trying to attack or defend with them (one that gave all my other cards or me an ability). I miss a "deathtouch" or "if this creature is blocked, destroy creature at end of turn." I make all the top 10 mistakes. I would assume that cards like Thrashing Brontodon sit on the battlefield more as deterrents than for combat? Not that they are protected from a removal spell all by themselves.

Thrashing Brontodon would provide two forms of deterrence. First is the obvious--3/4 is a fairly decent body. 3 power kills the numerous 3-toughness-or-less creatures that exist, and 4 toughness ensures it will survive combat with a 3/3. These stats are not terrible, and can deter enemy attacks.

But that's not really the important part: Your opponent can see that you have enchantment removal on the field, and will be less inclined to play their Solemnity--after all, they know it will be destroyed as soon as you have free mana. Your opponent will be forced to deal with your Brontodon before casting their crippling card, buying you some additional time.

Thanks cdkime. Makes sense. Time is so important for Counter Surge. Once you kill my Winding Constrictor or cast Solemnity I start falling way behind. My daughter and I play a modded Second Sun deck and it counters almost everything. Very good practice. These are our only Standard decks.
